Athena

The door swung open before I could even try to run.

Martha rushed outside into the hallway, her eyes wide as she took in the shattered ceramic and the dark liquid pooling around my feet.

“Athena! Dear Goddess, are you alright?” she exclaimed and reached out to grab my arm, but I flinched as a bitter, suffocating anger clawed its way up my throat.

Behind her, Enzo stepped into the doorway. He didn’t look worried. His eyes narrowed as he took in my trembling hands and the mess on the floor.

“Were you eavesdropping, Athena?” Enzo asked, his voice sharp and accusing.

Eavesdropping. My heart hammered against my ribs. Part of me wanted to hurl the shattered pieces of ceramic straight at his face, to scream at both of them for treating me like an animal to be bred and tossed aside. But I swallowed the rage down and forced my face into calmness.

“I wasn’t,” I lied, keeping my voice as flat as I could manage. “My hand slipped. I… I’m sorry. I didn’t hear anything.”

Enzo’s eyes bored into mine, clearly not believing a word. He opened his mouth to press further, but Martha placed a firm hand on his chest, cutting him off.

“That’s enough, Enzo,” Martha said softly, though her fake, motherly smile didn’t reach her eyes as she turned back to me. “It was an accident. Don’t worry about the tea, dear. You look exhausted. It’s far too late for you to be driving back to the packhouse in your condition. You and Enzo are staying the night here.”

“Mother—” Enzo started, annoyance flashing across his face.

“I insist,” Martha interrupted, her tone leaving no room for argument.

Enzo let out a sharp, frustrated breath, but he didn’t fight her. He turned on his heel and jerked his head toward the stairs. “Follow me.”

I quietly stepped around the spilled herbs and walked behind him up the staircase.

Enzo unlocked the guest room door, pushed it open, and stepped inside.

I wiped a stray tear from my cheek before following him in, expecting him to walk right past me and head back downstairs to leave for Bonnie’s. But he didn’t. He closed the door behind us with a quiet click and stayed inside.

My mind instantly flashed back to the night Bonnie left three years ago.

It was right after Martha had forced Enzo to cancel their engagement. Enzo had gotten crazy drunk, stormed into my room, and slammed me against the wall. He shouted at me that I had ruined his life and driven Bonnie away. Then, fueled by liquor and the overwhelming pull of our untamed mate bond, he had dragged me to the bed.

He touched me, took me, and spent the entire night claiming my body… only to whisper Bonnie’s name at the exact moment of our climax.

The next morning, he woke up, looked at me with pure disgust, and coldly dismissed it as a mistake that would never happen again.

Ever since that night, he kept up a polite, sweet act in public. But behind closed doors? He treated me like dirt. We slept in separate rooms at the packhouse, and he strictly forbade me from ever stepping foot inside his bedroom.

So imagine my surprise now all of a sudden, he was standing in the middle of the guest room with me.

I ignored him, walking straight toward the small leather couch in the corner of the room. I had no desire to sleep near him.

But before I could sit down, a hand clamped around my wrist. Enzo yanked me backward, pulling me off balance and throwing me onto the soft mattress of the bed.

A sharp spike of pain shot through my fractured ribs, making me gasp. Before I could push myself up, Enzo hovered over me, pinning my legs down as his hand cupped the back of my neck. His dark eyes burned into mine for a fraction of a second before he leaned down and pressed his lips harshly against mine.

The force of his kiss was desperate, cold, and entirely devoid of affection. The mate bond flared like a fever between us, but all I felt was disgust. Martha’s ruthless words echoed in my head. This was all an act.

The faster he bore an heir with me, the faster he could be with Bonnie again.

“Stop!” I cried out, tearing my face away from his as tears spilled over my eyelids. I slammed my hands against his chest, struggling with everything I had to push him off. “Enzo, stop! Get off me!”

Enzo froze. He pulled back slightly, his chest breathing heavily as he looked down at my tear-stained face. A flicker of hesitation crossed his features, then he let out a stiff breath.

“I’m sorry,” he muttered, his voice cold and devoid of any real remorse. “But we’ve been married for three years, Athena. The pack needs an heir.”

A bitter, mocking laugh escaped my lips. “An heir?” I rasped, looking at him with pure disappointment. “Is that what this is? You despise me, Enzo. You can’t even stand to look at me. How can you force yourself to sleep with a woman you don’t even love?”

Enzo’s jaw tightened, his eyes darkening with sudden irritation.

“You don’t get to act like a victim now, Athena,” he said harshly, leaning down closer so his voice was right in my ear. “You were the one who insisted on confessing your feelings at my engagement party with Bonnie. You were the one who let my mother force this marriage on me. You wanted to be my Luna, so fulfill your duty as one.”

Every word was a slap to the face. Before I could scream at him, his phone suddenly rang.

The screen lit up on the nightstand beside the bed, and Bonnie’s name appeared.

Enzo froze. His entire body stiffened as his eyes locked onto the caller ID.

I looked at the screen, then slowly turned my gaze back to him.

“Go ahead, Enzo. Answer it,” I said, my voice laced with bitter mockery. “Don’t keep your precious lover waiting.”

AthenaI sat at the long dining room table, staring down at the roast meat on my plate without taking a single bite. My stomach churned with a mixture of cold fury and pure exhaustion.Jane stepped into the room, setting a hot cup of tea beside my elbow. She hovered anxiously, fidgeting with her apron before leaning in.“Luna… if I may ask…” Jane hesitated, her eyes wide with curiosity. “Did Alpha Enzo like the cookies you baked for him today?”A sharp, humorless laugh escaped my lips. “I will never bake anything for Enzo again, Jane. He isn’t worth it!”Jane blinked, taken aback by the absolute frost in my voice. “What happened, Luna?”“He gave the Moonlit Stone to Bonnie,” I said in a flat voice. “Right in front of me. He draped the Luna necklace around her neck because she complained her heart was hurting.”Jane gasped, clapping a hand over her mouth in sheer horror. “The Moonlit Stone? The Luna heirloom?! That’s a complete insult to you, Luna!”The look on her face told me she cou

EnzoI snapped. I grabbed Bonnie’s wrists, ripping her hands away from my temples.“Enough, Bonnie,” I said, shoving her back a step.Bonnie gasped, staggering slightly as she clutched her chest, her eyes wide with hurt. “Enzo?”“Athena is my fated mate and the Luna of this pack,” I said, my voice cold, hard, and leaving zero room for argument. “That will never change. Rejecting each other or trying to replace her is disrespectful to the Moon Goddess herself. Do not ever speak like that again.”A flicker of shock flashed across Bonnie’s face before she quickly smoothed her expression into a soft, nervous smile.“I… I’m so sorry, Enzo,” she stammered, raising her hands in a gentle, apologetic gesture. “I was only joking! I didn’t mean to cross a line, I swear. I just hate seeing you so stressed.”She took a slow breath, stepping back toward the corner of my desk with a thoughtful look.“Honestly, though… since I came back a month ago, I’ve heard the pack members talking,” Bonnie murmur

EnzoThe door slammed shut with a deafening rattle, leaving the office in a suffocating silence.I took an immediate step toward the door, my chest tightening as my wolf paced wildly in my mind.‘Go after her!’ my wolf snarled, his voice thick with raw, dangerous fury. ‘She is our mate! You gave away her necklace and humiliated her in front of everyone! Go fix this now! '“Enzo, wait,” Bonnie’s soft, gentle voice broke through the tension.I stopped with my hand hovering over the doorknob, turning back to look at her. She was clutching the Moonlit Stone at her throat, her lower lip trembling as she looked at me with wide, pleading eyes.“Let her go,” Bonnie urged softly, taking a frail step toward me. “Athena is just jealous right now. She’s upset about the necklace, and if you run after her while her blood is boiling, it’s only going to escalate into another huge fight. She needs time to cool down on her own.”“I don’t think that’s a good idea, Alpha,” Tyler spoke up firmly, his brow

AthenaTyler looked at me as if he didn’t know what to say, but Enzo spoke before I could question him more.“It’s the Moonlit Stone,” Enzo said, his voice completely calm as he reached into the box.The air in my throat froze solid. My chest went numb as an icy wave spilled through my limbs.Out of the black cushion, Enzo lifted a heavy, radiant pendant shaped like a crescent moon, its pale blue crystal shimmering beneath the overhead lights. It really was the Moonlit Stone. It was a sacred relic passed down to every true Luna of the Moonlit Pack. For generations, it was said to hold the raw, ancient power of the Moon Goddess, meant only to rest against the chest of the woman who held the highest authority in this pack.Memories flooded back in my head like a flood. On our wedding day three years ago, Martha had brought that box and held this exact necklace in her hands, preparing to fasten it around my neck as part of the sacred ceremony. But Enzo had stepped in and snatched it away

AthenaFor the next few days, Enzo and I slipped into an unexpected, peaceful rhythm. He returned to the packhouse every night, making a point to sit across from me at dinner. Not once did he suddenly rush out because of a call from Bonnie in the middle of the night.Watching him being civil with me… almost homely caused a hope to bloom in my chest. Maybe he really was trying. Maybe our marriage wasn’t completely dead.I was sitting in my bedroom, staring at my reflection in the mirror. Enzo went into his office an hour ago to do some pack business and asked me not to disturb him, but not in a harsh way. He said he’d come back for lunch, and reminded me to wait for him.It was just so surreal. Could my husband really become a considerate husband after so many years? Maybe that murder attempt from Rudolf shook him up.I ran a hand over my scarred, muscled arms. If I was going to be a mother and rebuild this bond, I wanted to change. I wanted to soften my cold, warrior exterior, not jus

AthenaEnzo’s fingers crushed the plastic cap with the pills in it. The glass bottle fractured under the sheer weight of his Alpha grip.“What right do you have to make this decision on your own Athena?” he growled, his voice dropping into a register so dark it made the air in the clinic feel thin. “You are my Luna!”“I don’t want your child, Enzo!” I shouted back, stepping directly into his line of sight. “I don’t want anything from you!”The words seemed to have hit where I wanted them to. But deep down, a quiet, broken part of me remembered when a child with him had been my fondest dream. But that dream was now dead. Before I could move, Enzo grabbed my wrist. His grip was iron, cold and unrelenting, as he began dragging me toward the clinic door.“Alpha Enzo, please let go of her!” Holly yelled, rushing around her desk to grab his arm.Instantly, a wave of crushing, suffocating Alpha aura exploded from him. Holly stumbled back against the wall, gasping as her knees buckled under t
