Chapter 2

Author: Perfect Timing
Corinne froze for a moment. She clearly hadn’t expected me to be this decisive.

After all, we had grown up together, and she knew me inside out. She understood how soft-hearted I was, and how easily I hesitated when pressured.

In my previous life, she had used that kindness and hesitation to make me give up the surgery slot again and again for Isaac.

In the end, not only did Isaac’s situation lead to Mom’s death and Dad being run over by a car, but I was also framed, dragged through online abuse, and driven to drink pesticide to prove my innocence.

Meanwhile, Grant and my inheritance all ended up in her hands. In the end, her whole family lived happily ever after.

The moment I thought of all that, I wanted to rip Corinne apart. I clenched my fists so tightly my knuckles went white, and I ground my teeth.

Even after hearing my outright refusal, Corinne still wouldn’t give up. She grabbed my hand, crying miserably, pressuring me, and trying to guilt-trip me.

"Jazzlyn, how can you do this? How can you be so heartless?

"Isaac is still so young. How can you just stand there and watch him coughing up blood, on the verge of dying? I never thought you’d turn into someone like so selfish and cruel!"

Her acting was flawless. Had I not been reborn, I surely would have succumbed to her scheme once more, ending in my own ruin.

Fortunately, I had already witnessed the true extent of her malice. I felt no lingering compassion for her. I understood that I needed to sever ties instantly, or she would find some other method to entangle me.

By then, the nurses had already moved Mom into the operating theater.

Suddenly, however, an unfamiliar nurse rushed toward us from out of nowhere. With only a cursory glance at Isaac, she declared that his state was far more critical than my mother's.

"What? Isaac swallowed a blade? Then he needs surgery right away! His condition is even more critical than that car accident patient just now. He can’t wait any longer!"

She immediately called for someone to take him into the operating room, but I stopped her on the spot. "How can you be so sure he swallowed a blade just by looking at him?" I demanded, my grip tight on her wrist.

Corinne stared at me in shock. "Jazzlyn! What are you doing? Are you actually stopping Isaac from getting medical treatment? Are you even human? Just because your mom’s life matters, Isaac’s life doesn’t?"

The nurse, Jody Grant, avoided my gaze. I ignored Corinne completely. All she wanted was attention. She thrived on saying things like this to draw everyone’s focus in the ER.

I spoke calmly, "You said Isaac accidentally swallowed a blade. Do you have any proof? Has he had any scans done to confirm it? You also said you went to several hospitals and none had a doctor who could operate. Do you really think anyone would believe that?

"My mom was in a highway crash. She has multiple broken ribs. Are you saying that’s less serious than Isaac’s condition?

"First come, first served. I’m not giving up the surgery slot. And don’t even think about interfering.

"As for you, Jody—wherever you came from—if you keep causing trouble, I’m calling the police."

In my previous life, I had been too panicked over Mom’s accident. I hadn’t questioned a single word about Isaac swallowing a blade or her demand that I give up the surgery.

Now that I thought about it, the entire situation was full of holes.

How could two emergencies happen at the exact same time, and the only surgeon available just happened to be Dad?

There was Jody who randomly appeared out of nowhere to stir things up, as well as the police who took people away without checking the facts.

The fake cause of death for Isaac… how did he fake his death and disappear?

These questions circled in my mind, each one more unsettling than the last.

This couldn’t be a coincidence. Someone had carefully orchestrated all of this to trap me. There was no way my family would just coincidentally fall apart like that.

No way I would end up dead, leaving everything to Grant.

This time, I would not fall into the trap again. I would break it.

Corinne and Jody were both stunned into silence by my words.

Corinne awkwardly took Isaac to get examined, looking for a doctor to assess his condition.

I stood firmly outside Mom’s operating room, not letting anyone get close. I didn’t expect Jody to come running back in a panic shortly after that.

She gripped Isaac’s critical condition notice in her hand.

"Something’s wrong! The patient has gone into shock and is in critical condition. Get Dr. Brennan out here immediately!"

Corinne’s eyes were bloodshot as she stared at me, her voice trembling. "Jazzlyn, you ruthless witch! You even called Jamie back? You shameless snake, I’ll never let you get away with this!"She struggled wildly, lashing out in anger as she tried to reach me.The next second, Jamie slapped her hard across the face. Holding Isaac’s hand, he suppressed his anger as he said, "I’m taking Isaac with me."I’ll find a lawyer and handle the divorce as soon as possible. Don’t even think about me bailing you out. Stay in prison."Jamie picked Isaac up. Ignoring Isaac’s crying, he forcibly carried him away."No, don’t! Don’t take Isaac away! I’m begging you!" Corinne sobbed hysterically, gasping for breath. "I was wrong. I really was wrong!"Don’t take him! Please save me. I don’t want to go to prison! I’ll change! Just forgive me this once. Give me one more chance!"Corinne knew Isaac wasn’t Jamie’s child nor was he Grant’s.As for who the father really was, she didn’t know. Her mind had

With Isaac’s appearance, the entire truth came to light. All the onlookers had now understood the full story.Isaac ran out from somewhere and cried toward Corinne in the police car. "Mom, don’t leave me! I’m scared…"The police immediately recognized him as Corinne’s son, the boy they had been looking for. After questioning, they learned that Corrine had staged everything. She admitted to faking Isaac’s death and falsely accusing me of stealing the surgery opportunity. On top of defamation, she now also faced charges of assaulting an officer and causing a public disturbance. In the end, Corinne couldn’t withstand the pressure and chose to confess. She spotted Grant and me not far away and tried to entrust her child to him."I admit everything—but before I go, let me settle something about my child."Seeing Isaac, Corinne lost the hysteria from before and seemed to return to normal. She looked at Grant with affection, completely disregarding my presence. She reached out and hel

I called Grant to confirm where he was.In my previous life, after Mom’s accident, I rushed to the scene and brought her to the hospital. I called Grant countless times. He kept saying he was almost there.Sadly, until the moment I was taken away by the police, he never showed up.Looking at the location displayed on Isaac’s smartwatch, I knew Grant and Isaac were at the hospital or nearby.Sure enough, the call connected quickly."Where are you?" Grant put on an anxious tone, even pretending to urge the driver to go faster. "I’m in the car, almost there. Just wait for me, okay? How’s Mom doing? Do you need me to—"I cut him off. "You have one minute to show up in front of me. Otherwise, I’ll change the will immediately. You won’t get a cent."The moment I finished speaking, I hung up.No matter how many times Grant called back, I rejected every call.In my previous life, a week before the accident, Grant had repeatedly asked me to change my will. Hearing that voice, everyone was stunned once again."Six months ago, I gave Isaac a smartwatch. The call I just made was to that watch. And the ‘Uncle G’ that boy mentioned is my husband."Corinne’s face turned completely pale, her eyes darting in panic. She never would have imagined I’d call Isaac and that the call would actually connect. The police immediately frowned and questioned her. "Was that your son’s voice just now?"Anyone who heard it could tell it was Isaac and that my husband, Grant, was clearly involved with Corinne. Their relationship was anything but innocent.Corinne panicked and admitted it, but still tried to argue her way out. "Y-yes, that was Isaac, but—but…"The police were thoroughly angered by her actions. This was clearly a waste of police resources. She had filed a false report. Isaac was obviously still alive, yet she had been lying as if everyone else were fools. The next second, a pair of handcuffs clicked neatly around her wrists. The officers pu

"At first, you said he was dead, and now the body is missing. There’s no way to confirm the death. But as Isaac’s mother, you don’t even know where he is. That means Isaac is now missing."Officer Beckett Rowe questioned Corinne about the situation. She cried pitifully, her voice trembling. She stammered, unable to explain what happened, focused only on getting the police to take me away, "Officer Rowe, you need to find Isaac as soon as possible. Take all of them back to the station and investigate thoroughly. Don’t let the murderer get away."The police were completely confused by the situation. They couldn’t even tell whether Isaac was dead or alive. After hearing Corinne’s words, they decided to take me back to the station first. "Ms. Brennan, you’ve seen it yourself. At the end of the day, Isaac is missing. Whether he’s dead or alive, you’re still connected to this. And you also assaulted someone just now."We need you to come back to the station with us for questioning. You ca

"You said Isaac is dead and that his body is in the morgue. But is he really dead? I set up a camera in the morgue, and it’s been livestreaming this whole time."The moment I finished speaking, everyone present was stunned.Corinne’s eyes went wide, her face filled with disbelief. "A camera? Livestreaming this whole time? How… how is that possible? When did you install it? When? I clearly already destroyed the morgue surveillance!"I already knew Corinne must have tampered with the hospital’s cameras, so I ignored her.Instead, I showed everyone the current state of the morgue through the video. "This camera is actually my mom’s phone. After she was taken into surgery, I placed it in the morgue. It’s been livestreaming ever since. Everything from then until now has been recorded clearly."You said Isaac is in the morgue, but right now, he’s not there."Corinne panicked and lunged forward, trying to snatch my phone. "Witch, give me the phone!"I shoved her away without hesitation
