Emily POV

Staring out the window of my car, I admired the beauty of the Moreno estate. It is such a shame that a family of this calibre is involved with so many illegal activities.

"Emily!" I heard my name through the earpiece. "This is Adam, remember the plan, do this once and get out immediately. You are Lena Grant, a high society event planner, don't forget that."

Every single instruction he had dished out, I made sure to pay close attention. Being an undercover agent for the Central investigative office for several years comes with a lot of experience.

I am not new to the task, but for some reason, I have an odd feeling about this operation. This is the third week that I  have been rehearsing for the role after the case was brought before my desk, so the execution was never going to be a problem.

Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath and stepped out of the vehicle onto the lawn of Moreno estate. The urge to just stand in awe and admire the beautiful piece of construction was heavy, but I knew I had work to do.

Adjusting my designer dress, I looked up with confidence and walked towards the entrance of the mansion.  No one will ever suspect that I am a top undercover agent because of my look and elegance as well, and this was my biggest card.

As I entered the mansion, my eyes looked across the room, searching for potential exists and also surveillance cameras.

"Remember, stay alert," Adam spoke through my earpiece.

Suddenly I found my target; Dominic Moreno, the custodian of Moreno's empire. His features were impressive, he was quite taller than I had seen him in photos and his piercing green eyes landed on me.

"Hello, my lady." His voice was deep and his eyes, although still intimidating, were also welcoming as well.

"Lena Grant," I say, extending my hand.

He hesitated, but eventually shook my hand firmly with a smile on his face.

"Welcome Lena, you are right on time for dinner." He responded. "Allow me to be your host for the dinner, so come with me." I smiled, taking his offer and walking beside him.

My eyes were always scanning every part of the hallway that we walked upon. I noticed the paintings on the wall, a clear indication that he loves art.

When we arrived at the dining table, several members of the Moreno family and their associates were so engrossed in conversations that they seemed not to have noticed our presence.

Dominic sat right next to me and for some reason, his closure made me uncomfortable. I did not like people breaking into my space, but this is what I had signed up for anyway.

As the main course arrived, my phone began to ring beneath the table. I noticed Dominic was distracted by a conversation with a man. I used the opportunity to check to find a notification coming from Adam.

'Moreno's financial record is a major clue that we need for this money laundering operation. Get close to him.'

My eyes moved to Dominic, and he appeared to still be engaged in the intense conversation.

"..... The Lucchesi family is making serious moves," The man speaking to Dominic tries to be as discreet as possible, but I hear everything he is saying. "We cannot let them enter our territory."

I noticed Dominic's face darkened and he glared at the man. "How many times do I need to inform you that there is time for everything Alessandro? Now is not the time for business, let's eat and discuss later."  I looked away, seeing he stopped the conversation.

My heart was racing with different thoughts, this was more than a family dinner. It will be interesting to see his face when the CIO catches up with him.

While everyone was busy eating their meal, I took time to look at every single one of them. The only person not part of my report is Alessandro, the rest are people I have read about.

Once the main course was over, the dessert was served and I heard Dominic clear his throat beside me.

"So tell me Lena, what brings you to this humble city?" He asks, breaking the abrupt silence at the table.

"I am expanding my event business here in this city, I heard about your family's great philanthropy and it caught my attention." My response has been something I practised before coming to this estate.

“Philanthropy?" I turned to Dominic, as his eyes narrowed mine with suspicion.

Maybe I overplayed that part, my mind raced with other options I could use.

"Don't worry, I was just kidding." He says, breaking the tension between us. "You and I should discuss business over a cup of wine, don't you think?"

"That will be perfect." I smiled back at him, trying to mask the anxiety that nearly took over me. "I would like to use the restroom," I announced and one of the maids came over to my side and helped me out of the table.

“Be careful Emily, Dominic is a man who is quick to find loopholes, you cannot mess this up," Adam spoke through the earpiece this time.

We stepped down the staircase, my heel making noise on the marble floor. The estate is huge and I doubt if we could explore the whole place.

Dominic stopped by the bar, filling his glass with scotch. While he sipped from his glass, his eyes were fixed on my body.

"I have to say, you look very stunning." He admits, dropping his glass to the table.

"Thank you very much, Dominic, you are also a great host as well," I responded.

This isn't the first time I get complimented for my looks, it is the card I held to the heart of several criminal minds that we caught in the past.

Dominic offered a glass of wine and for a moment I looked at the cup; I do drink when I am alone, but not around people.

'Ignore your principles and take the damn drink!' Adam yelled through the earpiece, making me grab the drink from him.

"Your family's history of giving out to people has impressed me a lot. I am sure we will be great partners to that effect." I mentioned, sipping from the glass.

"I am sure we will be great partners." He responded, taking a few steps forward. "I cannot help but be charmed by your beauty. It is rare to see your type across the country these days, it almost makes me...." He leaned closer and I knew what he wanted to do, but did not move from the spot.

His lips brushed against mine, but the moment was interrupted by his phone ringing. He chuckled and excused himself to answer the call.

'This is your chance Emily, go for it!' Adam ordered.

I looked around the rooms,  spotting an open door behind the bar. I looked back to see he was still on the phone and realised this could be my only chance.

Without hesitation, I slipped through the doorway, arriving at an office which I presumed belonged to him.

My eyes landed on several files and documents scattered across his desk, but my eyes spotted a peculiar folder which is labelled "Lucchesi Deal."

Pulling out my phone, I snapped photos of the document and right when I finished, placed them back neatly.

"What are you doing in my office?" I froze, hearing Dominic's voice echoed through the doorway.

  • The Undercover Bride (Mafia Escapade)    Chapter 212

DAMIEN'S POV The hit from Dominic had taken more from me than I'd expected. We didn't expect the attack, and I lost too many men. Men that I could not afford to lose. I'd always known that going up against Dominic was going to be a hard thing. He had a reputation for being ruthless, and he never lost a war; that was why I'd gotten Steven Crowley to work with me, but I'd lost him, too. He wasn't even sure he wanted to go up against Dominic. He could walk away because he had nothing to lose except his life, and he stood to gain nothing because he'd only been working with me to pass away time. Taking my brother down was essentially something that I had to do alone and it was proving to be too difficult. Dominic didn't back down. Just when you thought you'd taken him down, he always came back harder and faster. He was bloodthirsty, and now he was out for mine. I was not scared of Dominic, though; I was still going to take my revenge for everything that he got that I deserved. He'd bee

EMILY'S POV It had been almost a month since Damien vanished, and although Dominic appeared to be calm, I could see the restlessness in his eyes and the tension in his body. I also noticed that he began to wake up in the middle of the night soaked in sweat and, sometimes, gripping the sheets so tight that his knuckles turned white. He didn't give me so much information about what was going on, but I didn't need to be told that finding Damien was proving to be harder than we all thought it would be. I was in the library reading a book. Something I'd not done in a while, but started doing again because it helped distract me from the things that were happening around me. The door barged open and Dominic walked in looking very tired. It was already past midnight, and I'd been waiting for him. “What's wrong?” I asked. “Damien's men attacked one of my warehouses and killed about six of my men. It was an unexpected attack.” He said through gritted teeth. “What?” “Yeah, it seems

  • The Undercover Bride (Mafia Escapade)    Chapter 210

DOMINIC'S POV The car roared to life as I sped out of the driveway. I could not believe that Damien had managed to slip through our fingers again. We had been so close to getting him, I could feel it. Then he eluded us once more. One thing was for sure, I was not going to let Damien get away with everything he'd done. My revenge was on its way. Victor was already at the warehouse when I arrived. He and the rest of the guys were already at work trying to locate Damien. “Have you found anything?” I asked. “Nope. I'm trying to search through the different airlines to see if we can find something. We know that it is very unlikely, especially with the fact that he has Crowley on his side, that they might have used other means or changed their identities.” Lorenzo explained. “Also, there might be a mole. Somebody who let Damien know that we were on to him.” Victor said. The whole place went quiet. One thing I hated with a passion was a mole. Apparently, people had not learnt thei

EMILY'S POV I woke up to the soft rhythm of Dominic's heartbeat. His arms were wrapped tightly around me as though he was scared to let me go, scared that he would wake up and find me gone. The soft sheets tangled around our bodies. The air was thick with the remnants of the passionate night we'd shared. A night filled with love, desire and unsaid words. For the first time in days, I didn't go to sleep crying. Dominic stirred beside me and his eyes fluttered open. His fingers trailed up and down my arms softly. “Good morning.” He said, his voice husky and filled with sleep. “Not really. I don't want this moment to end.” I told him brushing a strand of hair away from his face. “Then it doesn't have to, we can make it last longer. We can enjoy the moment a little longer.” He said and pressed a kiss to my shoulders. I smiled up at him. We both knew that there was still a storm brewing. Daniella was still gone and Damien was probably somewhere planning to launch his next attack

DOMINIC'S POV “I like that she's doing better now,” Emily said after we left Anita's room and walked into ours. I held her hand and pulled her close to me. “I'm also glad she's doing okay. For a moment I was scared she'd never get back up.” She said, “She's a strong girl, I knew she would. And you? How are you doing?” “I guess I'm doing better too. It's still hard to wrap my head around, but every day feels a little easier.” She responded honestly. I pulled her into my arms and wrapped her in a warm hug. “Well, you know I am always here for you.” I pulled away from her and gave her a small kiss on the lips and was about to pull away when she pulled my head down and crushed her lips against mine. My body came alive. I'd missed her so much. It's been so long since we'd been together like this. “I missed you,” she murmured against my mouth. “I missed you, too,” I said and deepened the kiss. She jumped up and wrapped her legs around my waist. I pinned her against the door

  • The Undercover Bride (Mafia Escapade)    Chapter 207

EMILY'S POV The morning sun filtered into the room announcing the beginning of a new day. I blinked slowly and looked down to find Anita's small frame curled into me. Her breathing was soft and even her grip around my waist was tight like she was scared I would disappear. She'd come into the room the night before because she could not sleep. She didn't talk, she only laid in my arms and was quiet till we both fell asleep. I brushed a strand of hair from her face and placed a soft kiss on her forehead before lying back down. A few seconds later, Dominic walked into the room. He looked like he'd had a rough night and he didn't get enough rest. His eyes were red and he had dark circles under his eyes. “Good morning.” He said with a small smile on his face. “Good morning. Where did you sleep?” “On the couch in the office.” He said with a shrug. “Why didn't you join us? There's more than enough room.” I told him. “Yeah, but you both looked so peaceful I was scared that if

  • The Undercover Bride (Mafia Escapade)    Chapter 206

EMILY'S POV The rest of the days moved by quickly. We wanted to hold a small ceremony for Daniella. Dominic had her cremated so we could keep her with us, but we decided to hold the ceremony when everything had settled down. Dominic spent more time at home. When he wasn't out with Victor looking for Damien, he was at home. Anita would only speak to her father and eat when he was around. She had stopped crying, but she had not smiled even once. Her eyes didn't hold the same brightness that it used to have. It was like something in her had died along with Daniella and it hurt to see. I understood how she felt. “What are you thinking about?” Sofia asked as she walked into the room. I had totally forgotten that the door to my room was open. “Nothing really,” I told her with a soft smile on my face. She gave me a knowing look. “You know you can talk to me. I know things haven't been easy and I can see you trying your best to put on a brave face, but I see right through it. Victor

  • The Undercover Bride (Mafia Escapade)    Chapter 205

EMILY'S POV I was walking out of our room at the same time that Dominic was leaving Anita's room. His shoulders were sagged and he looked drained. His eyes were red from lack of sleep and they were filled with sadness. He looked like he was carrying the entire weight of the world on his shoulders. Our eyes met, and for some time, we paused. We didn't say anything. But the silence between us held so much meaning. It was filled with pain, agony, sadness, anger, guilt, fatigue and understanding. After a while, I reached for his hand and he took it immediately. He pulled me to him and wrapped his arms around my shoulders in a hug. My arms went around his waist and I buried my face in his chest with his face buried in my hair. There was no need to day anything. I felt the tension leaving both our bodies for a moment before we pulled away. “How is she?” I asked, referring to Anita. I had not seen her in a couple of days, and that was because I was too filled with my own grief; I fe

  • The Undercover Bride (Mafia Escapade)    Chapter 204

DOMINIC'S POV Early the next morning, I walked into Anita's room. She'd been hidden away there for days. She refuses to eat or talk to anybody. She spent most of her time crying. Emily was hurt, but Anita was almost broken. She didn't make friends easily and I suspected that it was because of this same reason—she could not bear the thought of losing them. Now she'd finally opened up herself to make friends and she'd gotten hurt in such a way that I wish I could shield her from. “Mi principessa,” I told her softly as I came to sit down on the bed where she lay curled up with tears streaming down her face. She didn't respond, she didn't even turn to acknowledge my presence. “Oh, honey. Please talk to me.” I pleaded. I brushed her hair softly. She still did not respond to me. “At least allow me to hold you,” I told her. She was quiet and I thought it'd be better to just sit with her quietly since she didn't want to talk. I just hated seeing her so filled up with grief. Just li
