Not Giving Up on Her

ELIJAH’S POV:

That earned another small smile. She walked closer, curiosity in her eyes as she peeked into the bag. “Shrimp risotto?”

“And lemon cake,” I added, pulling out the containers.

Her lips curved upward despite herself. “You remembered.”

“Some things are hard to forget.”

For a second, she didn’t respond. She just stood there, staring at me with an expression I couldn’t quite read—part surprise, part nostalgia, part disbelief.

Then she looked away, busying herself with opening the food.

  • The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back)   The Creations

MARY'S POV:I had been genuinely surprised. Deeply touched. And because of that, I had wanted to do something special to bring a smile to his face, too.So I had put all of this together. These handmade creations. They had not been thrown together in a rush at the last minute. They were years in the making, born from quiet moments of patience. My daughter had always loved cartoon characters, just like any normal kid who grew up watching television after school. But Alistair had never paid attention to what she actually liked, let alone bothered to buy her the toys she dreamed of. He was always far too busy running his company, attending endless meetings, or entertaining any of his friends.Whenever I gently told my baby girl she could pick out any cartoon character she wanted, she would always sweetly tell me she did not need one. She had learned, even at such a tender young age, that asking for things only ever led to disappointment. Alistair always thought little girls should on

  • The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back)   More Than Ordinary

MARY'S POV:"What do you think?"I was a little nervous, my fingers twitching against the soft cotton fabric of my shirt as I waited for his verdict. The words hung quietly in the air between us, fragile and full of secret hope. I watched Marl's face closely, searching every feature for some sign of approval, some hint of the genuine excitement I had so desperately hoped to see. But he remained completely silent for what felt like hours, his expression unreadable, his dark eyes moving slowly over the entire collection I had carefully laid out before him on the wide table. His gaze swept from one handmade piece to the next, lingering on each creation, studying them with an intensity that made my stomach twist into nervous knots. The bubbling excitement of wanting to surprise him slowly faded away, replaced by a quiet, sinking wave of regret.I began to think that believing he would actually like what I had prepared was a foolish idea. What on earth had I been thinking? Why had I

  • The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back)   The Plan to Win Her

MARL'S POV:I had learned a long time ago that information and secrets were a form of currency, a crucial kind of power. But with her, I actually found myself wanting to share those hidden parts of my life. I genuinely wanted her to know the real me.I knew her spirit was currently covered in deep wounds from her failed marriage, but what she needed right now wasn't more masculine control, fake pity, or some self-righteous act of charity from a savior. She had never lacked the raw courage to stand up on her own two feet and fight her own battles. The very last thing a woman like her needed was to be trapped in another golden cell in the name of protecting her from the world. So I knew I could never let her see the dark, violent side of my nature, especially when it came to how I dealt with people like Vesper and Alistair. I could never let her glimpse the ruthless parts of me that were fully capable of cold cruelty, sharp calculation, and the kind of relentless, unyielding pursuit I

  • The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back)   I Couldn't Pretend Anymore

MARL'S POV: The realization hit me like a solid, physical blow right to the ribs. It wasn't an intentional thought I had chosen to have. It wasn't a subtle feeling I had deliberately cultivated over time. It was just suddenly there, raw and undeniable, a plain truth I could no longer stand here and pretend wasn't real. It was right there in the way my heart started racing whenever she stepped into the same room. It was there in the way my eyes automatically followed her every movement without my permission. It was there in the way I had secretly started looking forward to her rare, small smiles, her quiet little laugh, and the funny way she rolled her eyes whenever I made a ridiculous joke. But she hadn't kissed me back there because of who I was. She had kissed me entirely because of Alistair. She did it because she desperately wanted to land a blow that would hurt him. She did it because she wanted to prove a point right to his face. She did it because she was deeply angry, back

  • The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back)   I Want Her

MARL'S POV: The loud, dramatic conflict currently blowing up between Vesper and Alistair back inside the house would probably be entertaining to watch, but to me, it still wasn't nearly as interesting as going out to pick up the person who had already left. I stepped out through the front doors and walked down the steps into the cool evening air. When Mary had asked me earlier with that worried look on her face if I was hurt, I could instantly tell she secretly wanted to ask about Alistair, too, but she held back at the last second. Her clear eyes had flickered nervously toward the front windows of the house, then darted right back to my face, and I saw the heavy question forming on her lips before she swallowed it down. She was genuinely worried about him. Even after every single awful thing he had put her through, even after the cold way he had treated her for years, a part of her was still worried about his well-being. That was just who she was at her core. That was the so

  • The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back)   I Am Her Air She Breaths

MARL'S POV:"I know you have never felt a single second of regret for what you have done to her," I said smoothly. "If you can keep that up until the end, you win. The very second you admit you regret what you did, you lose."Alistair suddenly let out a sharp laugh. The sound was hollow, fake, and forced, the nervous laugh of a desperate man who was trying to convince himself just as much as he was trying to convince me."Is this ridiculous game just your lousiest excuse to try and steal her away from me?" he sneered, tossing his head back. "It won't work, Marl. Other men have tried to come into her life before, but Mary loves only me. She always has, and she always will. You can't change that."I looked at him with an expression that was almost pitiful. What a total liar. He had told himself that comfortable lie for so long that he had actually managed to fool himself into believing it was the gospel truth.I knew Alistair had to think I had completely lost my mind to propose su
