Steve chortled, amused by the huntress’s anxious attempt to catch him, all the way back to his home. She had been chasing after a car, on foot, like a crazy girl, her dress flowing, and they didn’t give a damn. He saw her face hitting the street. That was so funny.

She was a stupid, stupid girl. A human like her was no match for him. Under normal circumstances, he would have shooed her away as the first time he met her. Having to apologize to her was him stooping low. That had been fine, he gritted his jaw.

Living in a mortal territory was so irksome. Driving a car as a human. The tires ground the uneven street; they made grating noises. The cottage was around the corner. They had chosen this far end of Umbre City where any soulless creature who knew them was miles away.
