LOGIN“She’s been taking that drug for a month, Mom, so why is it taking so long for her to miscarry? I want to be with Lucas already. I’m tired of enduring this and hiding as his fated mate. I need to become Luna.” Olivia whispered her complaint to her mother while they were on the rooftop of the hospital.
Solana lit the cigarette in her hand and took a drag. As the smoke left her lips, she grabbed her phone and checked the screen. It looked like she’d been waiting for a message from someone, and her smile grew when she saw Antonio’s name pop up. “Don’t worry, my princess. I’ll make sure you become Alpha Lucas’s Luna before your father arrives,” she said, whispering something into Olivia’s ear. Olivia’s grin stretched wide, excitement bubbling at what she and her mother were planning. “Omg! You’re amazing, Mom. Thank you!” Olivia beamed before heading straight to her stepsister Amelia’s room. As soon as she entered, Olivia went directly to Amelia’s bedside and adjusted the sheets. She gently propped Amelia up against the headboard. Amelia was currently confined in their pack house hospital due to her weakening body and an unexplained illness they still couldn’t diagnose. “Where did you two go?” Amelia asked weakly. Olivia simply smiled. “Mom and I just talked to your doctor.” Amelia didn’t respond, turning her gaze instead to the window where tall, graceful willow trees swayed. “Drink your medicine now. You need it so you’ll get better, sis. Your baby needs you to stay strong.” Olivia handed her the drug and helped her drink it properly. “The nurse said I should only take the medicines my doctor prescribed. Won’t this interfere with the other drugs they’re making me take?” Amelia asked, struggling. Even speaking felt painful—her breathing had grown shallow, her voice thin. Her body had grown so weak she couldn’t work or even go see Lucas. She missed her boyfriend terribly. She’d been waiting days for even a single message from him, but nothing had come. She worried something had happened to his chosen mate, but she couldn’t understand why he still hadn’t visited her. “Mom already asked your doctor about this one. Don’t worry, it’s safe to take with the others. Trust us—we want you to get better,” Olivia said, handing her water. Amelia swallowed the medicine without hesitation, believing it would help her—unaware it would be what eventually killed her. “Olivia, do you know what Lucas is doing right now? H-he’s not answering my calls or texts,” Amelia asked between breaths. Olivia helped her lie back down. Olivia stared at Amelia’s frail, skeletal body. It had only been a month since they replaced her medication with higher doses of the drug they’d been giving her, and yet her condition had deteriorated so drastically. They still couldn’t understand why she hadn’t miscarried or died yet. “Hmm… he’s just in the pack house. I don’t know why he hasn’t visited you either,” Olivia lied. The truth was Lucas had left for a mission and knew nothing about Amelia being hospitalized. “I see…” Amelia’s disappointment was written all over her face. Her heart felt heavier learning this. She wanted to cry. She wanted to go to Lucas. She felt abandoned. “Do you want to see Lucas? I can help you,” Olivia whispered with a sweet smile. “But the doctors won’t let me leave…” Amelia answered, exhausted. She didn’t know what Olivia was planning, but she missed Lucas so desperately she was willing to do anything. “Tonight, I’ll sneak you out. No one will notice if we go through the fire exit,” Olivia whispered with a wink. “I’ll take care of you, sis.” Amelia managed a small smile and nodded. Walking or running would be impossible for her, but she trusted Olivia to help her. Amelia would do anything just to see and talk to Lucas. She missed him so much—she just knew he wouldn’t abandon her unless something was wrong. ‘Something must’ve happened to Lucas. That’s why he can’t come. I need to see him. Maybe he needs me.’ Night fell. Most people inside the hospital were asleep. Olivia gently woke Amelia and dressed her in thick clothes and a bandana to avoid being recognized. “I borrowed a wheelchair,” Olivia said with a smile. Amelia was touched—Olivia really prepared for this escape. After changing, Amelia let Olivia help her into the wheelchair. “Wait, before we leave, drink your medicine again so your symptoms won’t act up while we sneak out,” Olivia said softly. Because it was dark and the lights were off to avoid suspicion, Amelia didn’t see the different color of the pill Olivia gave her. She thought Olivia was simply worried about her… not knowing that in ten minutes, her entire body would be paralyzed. Olivia quickly pushed the wheelchair toward the fire exit. The hallway was almost empty, making it easy for them to leave unnoticed. When Amelia saw the steep staircase, her stomach dropped—they were on the 10th floor. “H-how am I supposed to—” Amelia’s words stopped when her jaw suddenly stiffened. She couldn’t open her mouth. She couldn’t move her fingers. She tried to turn her head toward Olivia, to beg for help, but what she saw was a cruel smile. “You can’t move, right? Hahahaha! Pathetic. You’re so gullible. Did you really think I’d help you go see Lucas? I’m his fated mate,” Olivia said mockingly. She took out her phone and dialed Lucas’s number. He answered within a second. Olivia turned on the loudspeaker so Amelia could hear everything. “Hello, babe?” It was Lucas’s voice. The moment Amelia heard him, her heart shattered. “Babe, I miss you! When are you coming home? I can’t wait to feel your hot kisses again. Come home, please,” Olivia said in a sweet, seductive tone. “I’m still at the border. I miss you too, babe. I want to go home and be with you already.” Olivia kept smiling at Amelia the whole time, enjoying her pain. “I miss you too. Bye.” Olivia hung up and burst into laughter, poking Amelia’s forehead. Amelia could do nothing but cry. Only her tears could move—her entire body was frozen. She wanted to scream. She wanted to fight. She wanted to tear Olivia apart. She wanted to demand why they were doing this to her. But she couldn’t move. She couldn’t speak. She couldn’t even lift a finger. “Olivia, stop bullying your stepsister. You’re being too cruel,” a voice said. Amelia turned her gaze to see Solana coming down the stairs. She tried to ask for help, but only a weak groan escaped her frozen throat. “Huh? Are you saying something?” Solana asked in annoyance. “You know, Amelia… stop resisting. You have no one here. Just give up like your mother did. She died helplessly too because of this drug.” Solana showed her the bottle of pills they’d been giving her, and everything clicked in Amelia’s mind—the strange changes in her body, the worsening illness, the switch in the pills. She remembered how her medication suddenly turned yellow, unlike the white pills her father used to give her. She thought it was normal… but now she knew. “You know, Amelia, I actually pity you. You’re too kind. Too trusting. That’s why people can manipulate you so easily. Here’s Mom’s advice for your next life: don’t trust so much. Don’t be too nice. Use your brain. So you won’t end up pathetic like you are now.” Solana smiled, and Olivia laughed beside her. “Pfft— as if she’ll even get a second life, Mom,” Olivia giggled, covering her mouth, unable to hide her excitement. Finally, nothing would stand between her and Lucas, and her dream of becoming Luna. “Let’s not drag this out. I don’t like seeing my daughter struggle,” Solana said, leaning down to kiss Amelia’s forehead. “Be a good girl for Mommy. Die quietly and quickly, okay baby?” she whispered before pushing the wheelchair forward. Amelia plummeted down the stairs. Her head slammed against each step, thick blood splattering with every impact. Her body crashed against the cold wall; she couldn’t even brace herself. She lay sprawled on the icy hospital floor, staring up at Solana and Olivia, who smiled down at her. Only her tears moved. She felt the life drain out of her… and then the loss of her baby. Blood flowed between her thighs, staining her white skirt with red. She wanted to scream. She wanted revenge. She wanted justice. But her breath was fading fast. With the last of her strength, she looked straight into Solana and Olivia’s eyes, letting them see the depth of her heartbreak and fury. ‘I swear by the name of Moon Goddess Selene… I will have my revenge.’They walked toward the pack house entrance near the Crimson Crescent village. Sure enough, a black helicopter was waiting. Lorcan stood beside it in a black T-shirt, pants, sunglasses, and phone in hand. When Amelia approached, he turned toward her. “Done packing?” Lorcan asked. Amelia nodded, unsure how to feel about how extra her Alpha was, though she couldn’t complain because he looked incredibly handsome. “Seriously?” Lorcan and Amelia turned, remembering Olivia and Solana were still there. “Your family really loves you, they even walked you out,” Lorcan said sarcastically. Amelia stayed silent. “Alpha Lorcan,” Solana said, “Amelia can be troublesome and needs a lot of care when she’s sick. Thank you for accepting a wolfless girl like my stepdaughter.” “You don’t need to apologize. I was the one who wanted to take Amelia from this pack,” Lorcan replied—a clear declaration, recalling his words at the rejection ceremony. “Oh ha
“What do you mean you’re leaving? What’s going on, Amelia? Why aren’t you telling me what you’ve been doing? Does Antonio know about this?” Solana fired off one piercing question after another as Amelia packed her clothes and belongings. “I already told Dad, and Alpha Luthor has given his permission too,” Amelia replied calmly as she placed her important items into her suitcase. “But why so suddenly? You didn’t even tell us—aren’t we your family?” Olivia asked. Amelia could only laugh inwardly at what the mother and daughter were saying to her. Family? Them? Since when? “Even I didn’t know about this,” Amelia said. “It looks like Alpha Luthor kicked me out just to keep me away from his crazy son.” She glanced at Olivia, who looked shocked. Amelia immediately covered her mouth and pretended to be surprised. “Oh, sorry. I didn’t mean to call your fated mate or your Alpha crazy. I’m just a little bitter abo
“Who are you staring at? What took you so long?” Amelia jolted when she heard Lorcan’s voice behind her. She hadn’t sensed him at all—he was like a shadow hidden in the darkness of the forest. “You startled me,” Amelia hissed irritably. Lorcan laughed. “I’ve been behind you for a while. You only noticed me now?” Amelia ignored him and walked deeper into the forest. “Where are you going? Our meeting spot is the other way,” Lorcan called after her as she walked quickly away. “Hurry up and follow me before someone senses you. Olivia might catch your scent,” Amelia replied. Lorcan quickly followed. “They won’t smell or sense me. I can hide my wolf scent and my Alpha presence,” Lorcan said. Amelia finally realized that must be why she hadn’t noticed him earlier. “How? Are you wolfless too?” Amelia asked innocently. “No. I just control my wolf,” Lorcan replied. T
Amelia hugged her immediately. “Thank you, Mom. I know you’re on my side. And thank you for standing up for me earlier,” Amelia said pitifully, even though she felt disgust hugging the snake living in their home. “Who else would help you while your dad is gone? Of course it’s me, your mom. Don’t worry, sweetie, everything will be fine,” Solana replied. Amelia pulled away, handed Solana one of the shopping bags, and smiled. “You can have this, Mom. I know you love designer wallets—consider it a gift for being the best stepmom in the world.” Solana stared in disbelief. After Amelia excused herself and went upstairs, Solana and Olivia peeked inside the bag and found one of the most luxurious wallets currently in stores. “Oh my gosh! This is so expensive!” Solana squealed, hugging and kissing the box, while Olivia watched irritably.
Sharp, piercing stares prickled Lorcan’s back as he walked into the Crimson Crescent Pack house. He headed straight for the main building where the Wests lived and went directly to his father’s room. “Alpha Luthor, it’s Lorcan,” he called out from outside the door. He no longer bothered with courtesy and didn’t knock, though he also had no intention of opening the door himself—especially after hearing the she-wolf’s moans coming from inside his father’s room. Sure enough, his father and stepmother would end up fighting again once Lucianna found out about his father’s latest indiscretion. Or worse, they might end up with yet another sibling—another heir to split the inheritance with. “What do you need?” Alpha Luthor asked. He pushed the she-wolf off his body and tied the robe he was wearing. He had been entertaining three women at once, some of whom were daughters of wealthy families within the Summergrave Empire.
“So what’s your next step now? Are you going to ask them to let you leave the pack as well? That request is definitely going to be harder,” Mia asked Amelia as they ate at a restaurant in the central city of the Summergrave Empire.Within the Summergrave Empire lived different kinds of beings—Lycans, vampires, and there was even a myth that the empire itself had been founded by a black dragon. But as the years passed, more and more mortals had begun living there, so these beings kept their true identities hidden while continuing to coexist with humans.“I should’ve told Alpha Luthor about it back then during the rejection ceremony. I think it’s better to talk to Alpha Luthor directly rather than Lucas,” Amelia replied, taking a sip of her favorite java chips drink.“If you do that, it’s like you’re really ditching Lucas already. You still see Alpha Luthor as more of an Alpha than Alpha Lucas,” Mia said as she took a bite of her food.Truth be told, Alpha Luthor really did have more po
