The judge adjusted his glasses before looking over the courtroom.

“That concludes today’s proceedings.”

His gavel struck once.

“Court is adjourned until tomorrow morning.”

The tension that had held the room together for hours loosened all at once.

People stood, lawyers gathered their files and the jurors were escorted out.

Reporters hurried toward the exits, no doubt eager to be the first to report what had happened inside.

Theo was led away by a court officer without so much as a

Hey guys! 👋🏾 It’s been too long! For the first half of last month, I was quite inconsistent and the second half, I completely stopped writing. Truth is, I was struggling with my health. I understand how annoying it can be when the author of a novel you’re reading suddenly stops writing. I apologize for leaving you guys hanging. I’m back now, feeling much better and ready to continue posting consistently. Like I said, I understand your frustration. But giving the book terrible ratings because I stopped writing for two weeks isn’t the way to go😒 Every single rating on this app matters, so PLEASE stop doing that. As you all know, this novel is slowly coming to an end, and I really appreciate everyone who has made it this far and supported me with gems, feedback, and presents🤗💖

Despite loving this book - I’m so disappointed that you’ve cast Lucian as Eva’s victim alongside Claire. HE victimised Claire WITH Eva. LUCIAN betrayed Claire - she deserves better. Nathaniel is who she deserved. Claire loses twice - once wirh Lucian and once by turning her back on Nathaniel.

So how long had Lucian been in a affair with Eva, while married to Claire. If he's remembering all their times together and laughter. And to top it off he's going to talk to her after everything Eva has done to Claire too. And while she watches. He's a hypocrite.

“What did she send you?” Lucian demanded. Hope’s gaze moved between him and me, green eyes widening with fear. “A vial,” she whispered. Lucian’s expression hardened. “What was in it?” Hope hesitated. “Eva told me it was something that would make Mrs. Dhark lose the baby.” For a moment, I couldn’t understand the words. I knew I heard them, but my mind refused to accept them. Then my hand moved instinctively to my stomach. My baby. The child Lucian and I had barely begun to imagine a future with. The child we’d been given a chance to love after everything we’d that had happened. Eva wanted to take that away from me, too. A small, broken sound escaped my throat. Camilla tightened her hold on my hands. “Oh, Claire.” I couldn’t stop staring at Hope. She was still talking, but her words seemed to come from somewhere far away. “She sent it to me today,” Hope explained through her tears. “She told me to put it in Mrs. Dhark’s food. She said she wants to make sure

The moment my driver pulled into the driveway of the Dhark mansion, I noticed Margot’s car parked near the entrance. My brows creased. What was she doing here? Margot rarely visited the mansion without a reason, and given her ongoing recovery, I couldn’t imagine her making an unnecessary trip. Had something happened? Had Hart revealed any new information after I left the station? I glanced at my phone, wondering whether Lucian had tried calling me again. There were several missed calls from him, along with a message asking me to call him as soon as I could. Guilt tugged at me again. He must be livid. I hadn’t deliberately intended to ignore him for so long. After confronting Caroline and learning that Eva had recruited her to spread those disgusting rumors about me, I’d needed time to think. I knew Lucian would want to know where I’d been and why I hadn’t answered his calls, and I hadn’t been ready to explain everything. Still, I should have sent him a message. I c

“Answer me,” I said. Hope’s lips trembled. “I—” “Did Eva pay you?” She looked toward Camilla again, but Camilla offered no rescue. She stood with her hands clasped, disappointment replacing the uncertainty that had brought her here. “Yes,” Hope finally whispered. The admission settled over the room. I felt something cold and heavy form in my chest. “How long?” Hope shook her head. “Sir, please—” “How long have you been taking money from her?” “I didn’t mean for it to become this.” “That is not an answer.” She began to cry. I felt no satisfaction at the sight. I had no interest in frightening a confession out of someone who might still choose to tell the truth. But neither was I prepared to let tears distract me from what she had done. “Start at the beginning,” I ordered. “Tell me how this started.” Hope pressed a hand over her mouth, trying to steady herself. “It was years ago,” she said at last. “When you were still dating Miss Eva.” “Eight years a

I called Claire again. The phone rang until the call disconnected, leaving me staring at her name on the screen with my jaw clenched. Still nothing. I had called her so many times that I had lost count. Margot had tried reaching her too, with no success. Neither of us knew where she was, and the longer she remained unreachable, the more my uneasiness grew. Claire knew I worried about her. She also knew I disliked being kept in the dark, particularly now, when she was carrying our child. If she was busy, she could have at least sent a message. If she needed time alone, she could have told me. Anything would have been better than this silence. I lowered my phone and looked across my study at Margot. She sat in the chair opposite my desk, her cane resting beside her. Despite her recovery, she looked as sharp and formidable as ever. “She might simply be occupied,” she said. “She has been occupied for hours?” “I didn’t say it was likely. I said it was possible.” I exhale

I stared at Caroline, struggling to comprehend what she’d just said. “Tired of watching me get everything?” I repeated. She kept mute. “What exactly do you think I’ve gotten, Caroline?” I asked. Caroline let out a disbelieving laugh. “Are you serious? Look at your life!” “I’m looking at it.” “You married Lucian Dhark. You had access to his wealth, his connections, and his influence. Then, after everything fell apart, you returned to practicing law and somehow ended up working with Margot Sinclair herself. Now you’re handling major cases and getting the kind of attention most lawyers spend their entire careers chasing.” She shook her head. “And you expect me to believe that none of it has anything to do with your connections?” I watched her carefully before speaking, choosing my words very carefully. “Did you ever stop to consider that I might actually be good at my job?” She rolled a pair of hazel eyes. “Oh, please.” “Did you?” This time, she looked away. I

The moment Caroline turned toward me, I knew she wasn’t going to make this easy. “Now tell me, Claire. What exactly do you think I’ve done?” I held her gaze. “I think you’ve been helping spread the rumors about me.” I replied in a beat. She scoffed. “And what makes you think that?” “Because you knew me—better than most people.” “That doesn’t answer my question.” “Eva Sterling approached you, didn’t she?” Caroline’s expression remained unchanged, but something in her eyes sharpened. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” “Don’t insult my intelligence.”Caroline scoffed loudly. “You really are entitled You’re the one who showed up at my workplace, followed me to my car, and practically threatened me into having this conversation. Now you’re accusing me of conspiring with a woman who’s on trial for a number of serious offenses.” “I’m asking you a question.” “And I’ve answered it.” “No, you haven’t.” She let out an exasperated breath and reached for the do
