Chapter 14

Sierra

Once Alex left on Sunday I finally felt like I could breathe again. I definitely needed the clarity and the distance from him. I find myself replaying every word, and every look and realize how ridiculous I was being. He was a stranger and I was probably never going to see him again. I threw myself into my school work for the entire day on Sunday, welcoming the distraction so that I would not think of him. I was typing up my English essay listening to music in my headphones when I noticed my mom standing in the doorway to my room. I pulled my earbuds out queuing her to talk, but she just stood there looking at me.

“Mom…. You ok?” I asked her with a quizzical look on my face.

“Sierra” she said sighing and moving to sit on the edge of my bed. “I am so very proud of you for what you did yesterday, but I am also so very mad at you” she said.

“Look, mom you don’t need to worry about me. I’m fine, and I certainly couldn’t stand by and do nothing” I said shrugging it off.
