“I’m sorry. Was I too harsh?” she asked, tilting her head slightly. “I’m actually being a lot kinder than you were. If I were like you, I would’ve made you watch them die first… and then mocked how they died.”

Her words hit him like a slap. But before he could even tell himself it was too much, he remembered the truth. That’s exactly what he had done to her. That day—when she stayed quiet and calm, and he kept pushing, being cruel for no reason.

“You know, I should feel bad. Normally I do—when someone loses people. I understand grief more than I’d like to. But with you, Marcus… I can’t feel sorry for you,” she said, voice steady. “Because when I think of all the lives lost, the homes you destroyed, the children you left behind with no parents… how can I feel sorry for you? These weren’t just any werewolves, they were from the Azar clan, the largest and most feared of them all. Their former king, Khaos, had been ruthless beyond measure. Now, his eldest son Marcus had taken the throne… and was currently locked in a cell. That kind of move wouldn’t go unanswered. Capturing the king of such a powerful clan wouldn’t be seen as justice, it would be seen as weakness. As an insult.Ares had wanted to see Marcus for himself, to know if he was anything like his father. The first thing that hit him was the resemblance, same presence, same cold eyes. Maybe that was just something all werewolves shared. But beyond that, Marcus had been... strange. Hard to read. His behavior didn’t fully match the monster everyone warned about.Ares turned back to the ruined village. Homes burned down. Families scattered. Many had packed what little they had left and gone off in search of safety, somewhere far from all this chaos. He remembered how Aria’s father had first pulled him

“Give me a reason Marcus, because I am not one of your subjects who follow your orders blindly.”He just glared at her trying to contain his anger but God help him…“Oh right. Because I am whore. I shouldn’t do it for breeding right? It makes sense.” She nodded. “Well, I never wanted children anyway so I think we agree on that. I guess I will just enjoy myself. I never thought it could be such a pleasurable experience to be with a man. It makes me tingle in a strange way.”He stiffened, feeling the rest of the air leave his lungs at the thought of another man bringing her pleasure and not just touching her.She blushed a little. “It was just a kiss but…” she shrugged, bringing her fingers to her lips as if recalling it. “If I can feel like that just from a kiss, imagine…?”A kiss?He yanked at the chains again, now almost causing his wrists to break. She shook her head.“The chains were made to hold five werewolves in their beast form so don’t waste your energy.”Ignoring her he conti

She did. Ares had given her comfort, real comfort. But now, after everything, she felt colder than before. Something kept nagging at the back of her mind. He had left her more confused, more restless. More aware.Aria realized something painful—she needed warmth more than she ever admitted. But she also knew that allowing herself to feel, to open up, meant risking her heart again. And with someone like Ares, who clearly had a mission and secrets of his own, that was dangerous. She couldn’t go through another loss. Not again. But then, what was she supposed to do? She was marrying him. She wouldn’t be able to run from the comfort he gave or the closeness that would grow between them. And that scared her.She was ready to give him everything else—her partnership, her body, even children one day.
