Sebastian's POV

I grabbed some clothes and threw them on before tossing the divorce papers onto the table.

"I just wanted to know what it felt like to separate sex from love, the way you always said you could," I said. "Turns out, I like it. So I don't need you anymore."

"Sebastian Donovan!" my wife, Madeline Brooks, called after me, her voice thick with barely contained frustration. "You spent two years losing your mind trying to get me to come back. Now that I've cut things off with him and I'm carrying your child, you're asking for a divorce?"

My hand tightened around the papers, trembling.

She'd shattered the walls I'd spent years building around myself with just a few words.

"What right do you have to say that?" I turned back to her, my voice shaking with anger. "Out of all the men in the world, you had to cheat on me with my father's illegitimate son.

"You knew his mother was the mistress who destroyed my family and drove my mother to her death, and you still slept with him on our wedding day!"

Madeline's breathing faltered.

For a moment, she said nothing. Then she clenched her jaw and asked, "Who did you sleep with?"

"You don't need to know."

I looked away, my grip tightening around the divorce papers.

"That's only fair."

After Madeline's affair ruined our wedding, I became just as obsessed with finding out who the other man was. But she watched me lose sleep and slowly fall apart, all while protecting him so fiercely that I couldn't even learn his name.

Everything changed when Nathan Donovan sent me an intimate video of the two of them on my birthday. That's when I finally found out.

The man she'd been sleeping with was my own half-brother.

A cold smile curled across Madeline's lips. "You're not going to tell me? Fine. I can find her myself."

She leaned in and roughly bit down on the hickeys covering my shoulder, deliberately leaving her own marks over them.

I recoiled from her touch as if I'd been electrocuted. Without thinking, I grabbed the vase from the edge of the table and threw it in her direction.

"Get away from me!"

Madeline was shocked. Then, she stared at me with a dark, ominous look in her eyes before slowly stepping toward me.

"Get away from you?" she repeated. "Then who do you want? That bitch you're protecting with your life?"

Her words cut straight through me.

I forced a smile, desperately holding myself together as I spoke each word slowly. "Anyone would be better than you."

"Sebastian, stop pushing me!" Her voice rose. "You hate me, but don't pretend I'm the only one who's done wrong. My hatred for you is just as strong as yours is for me."

She suddenly sank her teeth into my arm, biting down so hard that the skin split open. Blood immediately welled from the wound, staining the corners of her mouth.

A violent wave of nausea rolled through me. I shoved her away. "Don't touch me! You're disgusting!"

Madeline stumbled back, then let out a mocking laugh as though none of it mattered.

"Sebastian, when are you going to stop?" she asked. "You staged this whole performance just to get my attention. Why are you pretending otherwise now?"

"Staged it?" I repeated the words in disbelief, my fingertips turning cold.

Madeline stared at me and spoke slowly, emphasizing every word.

"On Nathan's birthday, you pretended to swallow half a bottle of sleeping pills just to force me to come home and spend our anniversary with you.

"When I got pregnant with Nathan's child, you made a scene and slashed your wrist. You nearly died and forced me to stay by your side in the hospital for an entire month."

Her eyes reddened, and the hatred in them was impossible to miss.

"And when my child with Nathan was five months along, you climbed onto the roof of a hundred-story building and staged another suicide attempt. You forced me to terminate my pregnancy so I would stay with you."

She took another step toward me.

"You've played this manipulative game over and over again. How much longer are you planning to keep this up? Because I'm done with it. I'm sick of it."

A chill spread from my spine to my heart, and my entire body began to tremble.

She remembered Nathan's child, but she couldn't remember what I looked like five years ago, when I caught her aborting our baby for Nathan and spiraled into a deep depression.

She remembered every wrong Nathan had suffered, every hurt he'd endured. But every time I broke down and begged her for help, she dismissed it as another disgusting mind game.

All the emotions I'd spent years suppressing finally exploded. I grabbed everything within reach and hurled it at her like a madman.

"Madeline, everything between us is over!"

She glanced at my deathly pale face, then contemptuously tossed the divorce papers she'd already signed at my feet.

"Sebastian, I'll be waiting for you to come crawling back and beg me to take you back."

Then, she walked away without looking back, completely convinced that I couldn't live without her.

But I picked up the papers and signed them without hesitation.

Then I made a phone call and arranged exactly when I would leave.

After all, what made Madeline so sure that I was only putting on a show this time?

Third-Person POVThe trial ended with Madeline withdrawing the charges, but neither Audrey nor Sebastian thought much of it. The evidence against the Donovan family was overwhelming, and even with Madeline withdrawing her complaint, it was only a matter of time before the three of them faced the consequences of their actions. What he didn't expect was for Madeline to marry Nathan that very same day. And what happened next was even more unexpected. On the day they made their marriage official, Madeline had Nathan tied up and taken to the Donovan family cemetery. By the time they arrived, explosives had already been planted throughout the grounds. The only message she sent Sebastian was simple. "This is for what they did to you on our wedding night."When Selena and Matthew rushed to the cemetery after hearing what had happened, they nearly collapsed at the sight that awaited them."Madeline, we'll do anything you want!" Matthew shouted desperately. "Just don't hurt our son!"

Sebastian's POVAudrey's expression darkened. She immediately stepped in front of me, shielding me from Madeline. "Ms. Brooks, anything unrelated to this case is none of your concern."Madeline's eyes instantly reddened as she looked past Audrey and stared straight at me."She's the bitch you've been sleeping with, isn't she?" she screamed. "She's the reason you want a divorce from me, isn't she?"I gently pushed Audrey aside and faced Madeline myself. She was already on the verge of losing control, but instead of arguing with her, I calmly repeated the very words she'd once used against me when I was at my lowest."Madeline, what are you making such a fuss about? Just because we're married, does that mean I have to stay faithful to you? Does being married mean I have to love you forever?"I held her gaze and continued, my voice eerily calm, "We've been married for five years. And honestly, I'm tired of you, too." Madeline froze. She stared at me as though she couldn't believ

Third-Person POVMadeline hurled the documents in her hand straight into Nathan's face. "Look at what you've done." Her voice was ice-cold."You, your father, and your mother spent five years setting me up. You played me for a fool, deliberately got me pregnant with your child, and then had the nerve to expect me to marry an illegitimate son."She stepped closer, her eyes burning with hatred."Who the hell do you think you are?"The icy accusation made Nathan's eyes flash red, but he still refused to back down. He forced a smile onto his face and tried to keep his composure. "Madeline, what are you talking about?""What am I talking about?"Madeline seized him by the collar, her fingers tightening as years of hatred finally spilled to the surface."Five years ago, at my wedding, I didn't get drunk and mistake you for Sebastian before forcing myself on you. You and your family drugged my drink. Then you deliberately made sure Sebastian walked in and caught us together.""

Third-Person POVMatthew frowned and sent a photo of the signed divorce papers to Madeline."Madeline, you already signed the papers. Why are you pretending otherwise now?"Her hands trembling, Madeline opened the photo. The divorce papers she had thrown at Sebastian's feet, certain he would never actually sign them, now bore his signature. She staggered back, staring at the screen in disbelief. For 27 years, Madeline had been certain of one thing—Sebastian would never leave her. That certainty had been so deeply rooted in her that she had never even considered the possibility of a life without him. But now, it was gone. Just when she had become convinced that he could never bring himself to walk away from her—so convinced that she had stopped bothering to hide her affair with Nathan—Sebastian had already decided he was done with her. Madeline barely heard the rest of the conversation. Her mind was already racing. She immediately called her assistant, Mina Carter."Find Se

Third-Person POVMadeline gripped her phone so tightly that her hand began to tremble. "How is that possible? I gave strict orders that no one was allowed to touch his mother's grave!" Then, as if a thought had suddenly occurred to her, she let out a mocking laugh."Tell me, how much did Sebastian pay you to put on this act? He'll stop at nothing to get my attention, won't he? This is ridiculous."George was frantic. His hands shaking, he quickly sent the security footage to her. "Ms. Brooks, you have to believe me. This isn't an act. I'm sending you the footage. You can see for yourself." Just as the video came through, Nathan walked over with a bright smile and gently took her hand."Madeline, weren't you supposed to come with me to see Benny? You shouldn't be working right now. You just lost the baby. You need to rest." Her finger froze over the screen. For a moment, she stared at the video notification as unease rose in her chest. But before she could open it, Nathan'

Sebastian's POVI looked up at her in shock, my entire body trembling uncontrollably. "What are you trying to do?"Madeline sighed. Her expression remained almost gentle, but her words were ice-cold. "This cemetery belongs to my family. If you're determined to hurt Benny, then I'll destroy your mother's grave." She paused, her eyes fixed on mine."Let her stay buried with the word 'mistress' attached to her name. I'll have her grave torn apart and her ashes scattered into the dirt so she can never rest in peace." I stared at the woman standing before me, feeling as though I were seeing her for the first time. That cemetery was the place Madeline herself had helped me choose for my mother. She knew my greatest fear wasn't simply losing Mom—it was that even in death, Nathan and Selena would continue to humiliate her and stain her name.So Madeline had searched every corner of Northale with me, looking for the perfect place for Mom to rest. She'd spent three months inspectin
