“To be quite honest, I can’t tell you the last time I ever went on a date,” Noah says. “I just thought, after you asked for steak, that it would be a good idea to get you out of the cabin for a night and give you an opportunity to ask me any questions you might have.” The slight rejection stings but I shove those feelings away. They are not going to do me any good so it’s better to pretend they don’t exist at all and definitely don’t act on them. My mind is racing at a mile a minute now with questions I need to ask, answers I need to know. “Is that why you’re being nice to me now, because I’m a super special turned wolf?” I ask. “You have absolutely no reason to trust me. No reason to believe anything that comes out of my mouth.” I ramble on, my attitude peaking through slightly, “So tell me Alpha Noah, why did you agree to have me “audition” for your pack?” I look at every inch of his face, my eyes roaming over every feature. I watch his jaw clench but his stoic expression remains. His eyes the colour of twilight, holding me hostage as he takes his last sip of wine slowly without breaking the eye contact.

“I’ll be honest with you. I’m still skeptical of your origin and your story has a lot of gaps and is missing key information.” He states in an annoying matter of fact tone. “But, without sounding rude, I know desperation when I see it, and I know honesty when I see it as well.” His hand is moving up and down as his fingers tracing the stem of his wine glass absentmindedly, “I’m still trying to place this feeling of knowing you from somewhere. It feels as if it gets stronger every day but I can’t quite grasp the memory.” He explains, “It’s actually pretty frustrating. I usually have an ability to perfectly recall everything,” I can hear the curiosity in his voice now.

I finally break the eye contact, closing my eyes to push back the memories of

the “story” he’s speaking about. “I’m not lying,” I whisper so low only a wolf could hear. I look up at him after a moment and realize his expression has softened, as if he feels sorry for me. After what felt like the longest 3 seconds of my life I say, “I feel it too. As soon as I saw you in your office this overwhelming energy flew through me, like I knew you from somewhere.” Now I want to know from where, because that feeling has only gotten stronger since I’ve been here. It’s like just being around him that energy prickles through my body, a breathless crackle in my chest forms and I feel the hum all the way to my fingertips. “I just wish I could place it but I’ve always assumed I just served you at the bar I worked at,” I reveal. He scoffs, “Us wolves have our own establishments away from humans to drink at with specially made alcohol,” the way his tone changed on the word “specially” piqued my interest. “Specially?,” I ask raising my eyebrow. His slow-burning smile conveyed mischief and the ghost of something unspoken. He pointed to the wine bottle, “Our bodies run hot, burning through alcohol quicker than humans, making it harder to feel the effects,” he explains, “but you feel it don’t you.” I started to take notice of my body, I did feel a buzz but I’m no where near drunk, I definitely didn’t have enough wine for that, but how much would I need of this special alcohol to actually get drunk?

I grab my wine glass and force down another sip trying to wash away the sins forming in my head. Noah takes another sip before finally replying, “What if I do like you?” My eyes snap to his. “You don’t even know me,” I say, trying to back track already, my breath faltering. “Do I need to know everything about you to be attracted to you?” His smirk makes my heart rate pick up speed. “Those are two very different things, don’t you think?” I tell him. “I think they can also go hand in hand,” he counters. I can’t help my breathing as it picks up pace as well now. “Are you saying you’re not attracted to me Akira?” He confidently asks. “I-….” I’m left speechless. His blunt reactions are catching me off guard and I’m not sure how to react to it. Physically, my body is reacting positively to his words and Stars’ purrs through the bond aren’t helping. “I’ll take that as a yes,” he’s full on grinning now, and I fear I might never want him to stop. “You’re extremely confident Noah,” I say as I

  • Turned   Avoidance

“What else would you like to know little wolf?” He asked in a slightly playful manner. As the one question that forever aches through my soul burns in my mouth, the server drops off another wine bottle and I hurriedly take it, pouring a huge glass. Noah’s eyebrow did the signature move as he clicked his tongue. “Be careful,” he warns. I take a sip so big my cheeks puffed out with the amount of the liquid taking over my mouth and rapidly sliding down my throat. “Why me?” I finally ask. “Why you what?” A whisper of irritation slid through me, “Why did he choose me?” I study his face as if it holds every answer. His forehead tightened, shadows gathering above his eyes, “I’ll do whatever it takes to find that answer for you Akira, but right now I have no idea,” his answer cracks a little piece of my heart, but I know it’s not his fault, why would he know? “I’m sorry,” he murmurs softly as he reaches for the bottle and pours the same amount I did into his glass. My lips twitch as I force

  • Turned   Steak and Flirting? Pt2

I stare at myself in the mirror, I look good. Apart from my scars of course. “You’re beautiful Akira, and maybe with the more information we get I can learn to heal you fully,” Star says. I wonder if I really would want my scars healed now. I feel like they show I’m a survivor, which makes me hate them a little less. “You are a survivor,” Star says. “We are survivors,” I add. “I wouldn’t be here without you, and you went through just as much as me,” I sigh. It’s the part of my story I’ll never forget, but it doesn’t mean I’m going to let it define me. The more I learn about my life, the more I’ll be in control of it. There are villains in every story, but I won’t give them more than a chapter in mine. I quickly use the washroom and let the cold water run on my hands for a while trying to cool down before going back out there. As I sit down back at the table I notice there’s a desert in front of my seat. The tiramisu looks absolutely delicious and has my full attention. “I ordered the

  • Turned   Steak and Flirting?

Our food arrives and confuses me because I don’t remember ordering, I look to Noah and he just taps his temple indicating he clearly mind linked our orders. The smell is ridiculously intoxicating, I swear I can feel Star drooling through the bond. Now my eyes have hearts in them. I eat everything probably way too fast to be good for my body. Once finished I lean back with my hand on my stomach, “Oh my god, that was amazing,” I rave. Noah laughs, “I thought you’d like it here. It’s the best restaurant in our town.” Carlos comes back to clear our plates and drops off a desert menu as well. Noah refills our glasses and looks to me, “Any more questions?” He asks. “Yes, of course. But now I’m not sure anyone will have the answers I need since my “kind” is so rare,” I say with air quotes. “I guess, I just want to know more about being a wolf, clearly some things are different but I can’t be that different can I? I mean I still shift and… obviously still have that heat thing. My senses are e

  • Turned   Some Answers

I spot a filled jug on the table, “I think water is fine for now, thank you,” I say to bide time. “This wine here is perfect Carlos.,” Noah adds, “We will need some time to go over the menu, I’ll let you know when we are ready to order,” he smiles at the boy and Carlos walks away bowing his head in respect. Noah grabs the wine and reaches for my glass but looks to me for approval, I nod and he pours us both a glass. “So,” he says as he lifts his glass to take a sip, “What was this favour you wanted to ask me?” Back to business. I almost forgot about that, almost. “I wanted to request a level of discretion when it comes to, well, me,” I confess. “I’m not sure who knows I’m turned or how much they know but I would appreciate if I could have some sense of privacy,” I’m hoping he understands, this is a whole new life for me and I still don’t know anything about it. Learning in front of an audience isn’t easy especially when things can get dangerous. “Everyone is entitled to some privacy,

I can’t be distracted by this, I have a million questions that need to be answered. Plus, I’m not ready for anything related to feelings or intimacy. His eyes are burning into my skin, I can feel them move along my body, he clears his throat. “Are you ready to go?” He asks. “Yes, I- uh, where do I put all my things?” I say fumbling my words. “Leave it, I’ll have them sent to your cabin. There’s a car waiting outside to drive us to the restaurant.” He says and walks towards the door. We walk in silence to the car, my heels clicking against the floor the only sound. He opens the door and extends his hand to help me in. “Oh we’re using niceties now are we?” I smile up at him as I take his hand and slide in. “Think you can last the whole night?” He questions raising his eye brow with a knowing smirk at his innuendo, then shuts the door before I can reply. Good thing because I’m too shocked to comment on that one. “Is he flirting or is it just me Star?” She laughs, “I thi
