I was brought into the Alphas office by his Beta and some other pack members, immediately I was stunned at not only how young he looked but how familiar. I’m not sure where I’ve seen him from, but it must be from my past life. He stares at me, hard. It seems as though he’s upset, but I’m not sure.
“Who are you and state your business on our pack grounds” he says, not asking. “My name is Akira, and I would like to join your pack”, I kept my head held high, hoping he sees strength instead of desperation. The room grows quiet for far too long. I can see him sniff the air, “Not a rouge… what pack are you from?” he asks. Here we go.. “I’ve never been a part of a pack actually,” I hesitate to continue but decide honesty right now is my best option, “I was never born a wolf, I was turned.” There it was. I knew I was different but the faces of everyone in this room grew cold and confused. Assessing me as a threat I assume, because I’m as unknown to them as they were to me. Understandable. The Alpha stilled. The other men around me stared like I was a unicorn or something. “We don’t take kindly to liars in this pack”, he states. He crosses his arms over his chest and leans back in his chair. “I understand your implication that what I have said is a lie, considering it’s unfamiliar and apparently hasn’t been heard of in a very long time. But I can’t offer you anything more than my own words, and if you’re willing to hear my…” I hesitate looking for the right way to state this, “origin story, then I would be willing to share…privately.” I maintain eye contact the whole way through. I’m still not sure how to speak in “wolf” terms yet seeing as I’ve been human for 30 years but I try, and try even harder not to sound arrogant. It grows quiet again for what feels like forever. It seems they must be talking over mind link, something I have yet to ever experience, but definitely okay without. I have enough going on in my head as is. The Alpha stands and walks around his desk, apparently trying to appear intimidating. “Leave”, he orders his pack members. They all bow their heads slightly and walk out. I’m still holding eye contact, not breaking it for anything. I need to hold my ground, and I’m completely stubborn. He tilted his head and squinted his eyes at me as he leaned back on his desk. He studied me for a long moment so I decided to do the same. He’s ridiculously tall like 6’6, muscular but not like the rest of these wolves though, he’s wider and his muscles seem to grow off each other, and of course annoyingly attractive. Black wavy hair, curling slightly, and piercing eyes, so dark you would almost think they were black but they are definitely blue like how ocean water truly looks because it’s so incredibly deep. He’s staring at my tattoos now, a big indication that I’m not a normal wolf. They can’t hold the ink. Their bodies heal too quickly, while mine was already on my skin before I was turned. “Where do I know you from?” He asks. I knew it. He did look familiar. I took a deep breath. “Honestly, I’m not sure but it was probably years ago when I was human.” I’m a little embarrassed, not going to lie. I don’t want to know why he seems familiar, I’m not exactly proud of how I acted when I was younger. “Sit” he commands. And I look at him questionably. Confused, but after a long minute I walk to one of the seats in front of his desk as he walks to his behind it and sits as well. “You don’t feel it do you” he states, again not asking. Shit. I forgot about the Alpha command. I was so wrapped up in trying to come off as strong and not pathetic I didn’t realize when Alphas throw their commands usually it’s felt and cannot be disobeyed. That’s why they bowed their heads I recall, understanding rushing in fast. He commanded them leave, now I wonder if they didn’t want to. “I didn’t realize you’d notice that, but now I feel like the “sit” was more of a test than an offer of hearing me out.” The side of his mouth tilts like he was about to smile but doesn’t, “It was both” he says.I grab my wine glass and force down another sip trying to wash away the sins forming in my head. Noah takes another sip before finally replying, “What if I do like you?” My eyes snap to his. “You don’t even know me,” I say, trying to back track already, my breath faltering. “Do I need to know everything about you to be attracted to you?” His smirk makes my heart rate pick up speed. “Those are two very different things, don’t you think?” I tell him. “I think they can also go hand in hand,” he counters. I can’t help my breathing as it picks up pace as well now. “Are you saying you’re not attracted to me Akira?” He confidently asks. “I-….” I’m left speechless. His blunt reactions are catching me off guard and I’m not sure how to react to it. Physically, my body is reacting positively to his words and Stars’ purrs through the bond aren’t helping. “I’ll take that as a yes,” he’s full on grinning now, and I fear I might never want him to stop. “You’re extremely confident Noah,” I say as I

“What else would you like to know little wolf?” He asked in a slightly playful manner. As the one question that forever aches through my soul burns in my mouth, the server drops off another wine bottle and I hurriedly take it, pouring a huge glass. Noah’s eyebrow did the signature move as he clicked his tongue. “Be careful,” he warns. I take a sip so big my cheeks puffed out with the amount of the liquid taking over my mouth and rapidly sliding down my throat. “Why me?” I finally ask. “Why you what?” A whisper of irritation slid through me, “Why did he choose me?” I study his face as if it holds every answer. His forehead tightened, shadows gathering above his eyes, “I’ll do whatever it takes to find that answer for you Akira, but right now I have no idea,” his answer cracks a little piece of my heart, but I know it’s not his fault, why would he know? “I’m sorry,” he murmurs softly as he reaches for the bottle and pours the same amount I did into his glass. My lips twitch as I force
“To be quite honest, I can’t tell you the last time I ever went on a date,” Noah says. “I just thought, after you asked for steak, that it would be a good idea to get you out of the cabin for a night and give you an opportunity to ask me any questions you might have.” The slight rejection stings but I shove those feelings away. They are not going to do me any good so it’s better to pretend they don’t exist at all and definitely don’t act on them. My mind is racing at a mile a minute now with questions I need to ask, answers I need to know. “Is that why you’re being nice to me now, because I’m a super special turned wolf?” I ask. “You have absolutely no reason to trust me. No reason to believe anything that comes out of my mouth.” I ramble on, my attitude peaking through slightly, “So tell me Alpha Noah, why did you agree to have me “audition” for your pack?” I look at every inch of his face, my eyes roaming over every feature. I watch his jaw clench but his stoic expression remains. H
I stare at myself in the mirror, I look good. Apart from my scars of course. “You’re beautiful Akira, and maybe with the more information we get I can learn to heal you fully,” Star says. I wonder if I really would want my scars healed now. I feel like they show I’m a survivor, which makes me hate them a little less. “You are a survivor,” Star says. “We are survivors,” I add. “I wouldn’t be here without you, and you went through just as much as me,” I sigh. It’s the part of my story I’ll never forget, but it doesn’t mean I’m going to let it define me. The more I learn about my life, the more I’ll be in control of it. There are villains in every story, but I won’t give them more than a chapter in mine. I quickly use the washroom and let the cold water run on my hands for a while trying to cool down before going back out there. As I sit down back at the table I notice there’s a desert in front of my seat. The tiramisu looks absolutely delicious and has my full attention. “I ordered the
