Chapter 3

Alexey's POV.

Two weeks since I've been in this gigantic mansion and my hands haven't even touched a broom or a mopping rag to clean.

“What's happening? Am I in some kind of danger?” I thought, seated on my large-sized bed.

The creaking sound of the door as it opened shook me out of my thoughts, I quickly grabbed the book beside me and pretended to be reading.

Alpha Elijah walked in with a smile on his face, he knew what I was doing.

“All this time and luxury you have, you would rather pretend to read a book?” He chuckled as he walked further into the room.

He pulled out a chair and sat on it, I dropped the book and faced him. It's time I tell him what's wrong.

“Why are you doing this to me?” I asked in a stern voice, and my eyes watched the glow on his face dim away.

“What do you mean? Did the maids do something wrong? Or was it me?”

“It was you, and it all started with you.”

“What did I do wrong, Alexey? Tell me and I'll make amends.”

“Did you not say Alpha Danes sold me to you?” He nodded in response. “Then why am I not working for you? Why shower me with all these luxuries when I'm just a low – life made?”

“Don't ever say that, Alexey. You don't know your worth because someone treated you like trash and right now, you're the only one who can treat yourself better.”

My eyes got swollen with tears and my fear was filled with fear that this was just a dream or a reality that won't last.

“This will last forever..... You and me.”

He said as though he heard my thoughts.

“You and I?” My head tilted to the side, showing my state of confusion.

“Didn't you feel it?”

His words made Alpha Danes's words echo in my head like it just happened yesterday.

“Did you feel that? That mate bond?”

“Feel what, Alpha?” My face void of any emotion, I looked at him.

“The mate bond? Did you feel that?”

“No, Alpha Danes is my mate......” My lips gasped in a round shape.

“Yes, second chance mate.”

“Was that why you bought me from him?”

He nodded, his beaming smile returning to his face.

“I didn't feel the bond, how can I believe that is true? Besides, a second chance mate is rare.”

“So are you.”

My cheeks bloomed with blushed as I got lost in his words and deep, smokey eyes of affection.

“I'll be on my way now.” He grunted and got up.

“Yes, Alpha.” I bowed my head and could only watch him walk out of the room through the corner of my eyes.

A deep and serious huff escaped my lips after I heard the door shut.

“What?” I gasped, my face contoured with fear and excitement.

“How come I didn't feel the bond?”

“White? Are you there?” I called out to my wolf, she should be able to help clear this up.

“Yes, is anything the problem? Your voice sounded so urgent.”

“Is Lycan Alpha Elijah our mate?” My voice was dimmed by my quivering lips and palpitating heart.

“Our second chance mate, you mean?”

“So he was saying the truth?” My lips parted in a round shaped, gasped, and I covered my mouth with a hand.

“That explains why he had been nice to me, but I'm not ready to be committed to anyone now. I'm yet to get over Alpha Danes's rejection.”

“Same rejection that made you ignorant of Alpha Elijah's mate bond?” She scoffed softly.

“What would you have me do then? Just jump at a man I barely know?”

“What happened to the one you knew? The ruthless, cunning and slayer of an Alpha? How did he treat you?”

I kept mute, pondering for answers in my heart but came up with none.

“Tell me, what were you going to do if he had accepted you as his mate? Will you live the rest of your life growing to like him?”

“The Moon Goddess made him my mate for a reason.”

“Likewise Alpha Elijah for a reason, so accept it before it's too late.”

Later in the evening, when I was taking a stroll around the yard, I met Alpha Elijah by the pool, enjoying a glass of champagne.

“Mind joining me, Mi lady?” He feigned an accent, lifting his glass of champagne toward me, that made me smile.

“Sure, Alpha.”

I went to him and sat down beside him, a small table in between us, and watched him sip his drink while he stared blankly into the pool.

“I might pass out soon.....” He turned to me. “If you keep staring at me like that.”

“Oh, I'm sorry, Alpha. I got carried away.”

My hands intertwined began to shiver, only happens when I'm nervous.

“You should say it out, I'm sure I might have an answer to it.”

“Pardon?” My eyes slightly widened.

He turned to meet my flickering gaze, “What you want to ask, go ahead, I might have an answer to it.”

“He undeniably knows how to read people. How did he know I wanted to ask a question?” I thought and swallowed hard.

“It's nothing, Alpha.”

“I'll take it that you don't trust me, neither do you want to.” He smirked, poured me a drink and sipped his.

Looking into the pool with the glass in my hand, I mustered the courage to ask.

“Never have I seen you stare or look at anything or anyone the way you look at this pool, it must have been an important memory to you.”

“You're right, my wife used to love swimming here, and coming here makes me feel her presence.”

“Your wife?” My voice broke, my eyes glistened, and he turned to me, his brows narrowed like he was trying to read my thoughts.

“She died…. Four years ago, when Alpha Danes left me to die, I lost her and my child.” His voice hushed, yet was filled with pain and revenge.

“It's time Alpha Danes feels what it feels like to lose someone you love.”
