Four

When I was sure that Ana was indeed just asleep and not dead, oh God I hate to have that thought, I got out of bed and walked towards the door and slowly opened it peeking my head to make sure no one is around.

When I saw that the place was clear, I got out of the room and shut the door very quietly. I walked carefully towards pathways since I have no idea on where to go and to my surprise, I don't think anyone but me is awake. As I continue to walk, avoiding the areas with the cameras of course, I sudenly heard a crackle. Like the sound of electricity or something.

I ran towrads the direction where it came from because I thought a camera or a light went wrong, which I think never happens, but instead I saw him.

Grayson.

His collar have this red light in it and he is on his knees gasping for air. My eyes went wide and event though I know there is a camera angled in his place, I ran worriedly in his direction to try and check up on him.

Bad decision. But too late for that now.

He looked at me with disbelief and stood up while still having a hard time balancing.

"What are you doing here?" he scolded.

I was taken aback because honestly, I expected a thank you.

"I-i though a light broke or something," I stammered.

He touched my wrist and a very familiar invisible but I could still see the blurry wall rose over us.

"You're suppose to be asleep," he suddenly said.

I looked at him and he lets go of my wrist as if he's just been electricated again.

"If you're ever awake, don't go roaming around."

I nodded but was unable to reply.

"I would receive some punishment," I muttered under my breath.

Fear crept through me as I think of possible punishments I could receive for being caught outside.

"They're not going to make a big fuss about it. It'll raise too much suspicions."

"Suspisions? Like what? There is a curfew and everybody knows about that," I tearily said.

"Yeah, but did you knew anyone who woke up in the middle of the night and nobody else would?"

I opened my mouth but no voice came out.

Because none. I knew no one.

"Secondly, you're going to be more suspicious. Why would they do something big for someone who woke up in the night or can't sleep. That's normal."

"But I was always asleep. I have no trouble sleeping and I never wake u--" I stopped when I realize what he was trying to imply.

"Exactly."

I was in awe but I couldn't process that much and confusion fills me. I didn't even knew how he walked me back to my room.

"T-thank you."

He nodded before storming off and finallu disappearing before my sight.

With my uneven breath cause by the revelation I just reaized I sat in my bed and looked at Ana who is deeply asleep, or sedated I must say.

But why?

The thought drives me to sleep and I even brought it to my dream.

I woke up the same time like everyone else. But knowing Ana, she always get ahead in preparing herself than everyone else just because she wanted to be first in breakfast.

When we arrived, we immediately fell in line with the other trainee and the moment we sat she immediately digs in her own food.

"What's your dream last night?" i asked her.

She suddenly stopped eating and immediately looked up as if trying to think and remember it.

"I don't actually remember" she shyly said.

"Did i bother you? Did i screamed and woke you up?" she hastily said.

"No!" i exclaimed. "Don't worry! I was just trying to wake you up but it seems like you had a good dream so i didnt bother to wake you up" i assure her.

We were almost done with our food when another batch of trainees that i immediately recognize as the ones on Level 14 and 15 arrived. They also lined up for their food. I finished my food and returned the tray with Ana. We go our separate ways because we have different schedules today.

I arrived early in the classroom. Just like any other classrooms here, the walls are painted white with only  silver table and chairs for the students, a large screen for the projector used in teaching and a brown table for the instructor.

Minutes later, a group of girls entered the room. They smiled when they got pass me and chose to seat in the corner together.

I'm so used in having Ana always beside me, but i just can't run in her class and sit there because that would be chaotic.

Several minutes before the lesson officially starts, our instructor arrived and settle his lessons while waiting for the other students. He looked at and smiled.

I was in shock so i forced a smile and look away. There is a very rare chance that one of the instructors or even the Counselors here would do that. They are very distant to us and well, they are only here to teach. As far as i know, they also live in S-One but since their job is here they have to stay here.

He started his lesson with his usual introduction and a glimpse of what's his previous lesson is about

"There were hundreds of job opportunities in Society One. And there will only be two affecting factors." he paused and change the slide projected on the screen.

"One is your skill and the second is your developed ability."

Developed Ability.

That is the result of Silver. It's an experimental substance administered to us every other day during our experiment subject. Silver helps our brain to push it's limits to develop some sort of brain abilities such as telepathy and stuff. Other trainees here have already developed theirs, like me.

Mine is Telekinesis which is one of the most common ones here. But mine is not that strong, or at least its not strong enough or developed enough to even help me advance into Level 14 or 15 which is what's required for us to participate in the full program of silver. It lasts for about two months or until we can really control our abilities.

After that, we will receive a pass that says we've graduated and we are able to live and survive in S-One. That is the only thing we need to pass and go back in S-One where our families are.

After you arrived there, you can still study again and enroll for extensive courses of you like to add some impressive things in your resume.

I don't think i need more of silver.

I already have my ability and im afraid of what more can it do. I don't need to be born above to know that everything that pushes our limits to high levels is dangerous. I've never heard anyone died from silver but i also didn't know what happened to those who already graduated.

I sighed.

But i wanted to go there. S-One. My family's there. I can see them and i get to talk to them. I could function and i could make decision. Being there means so much more than being able to be in the society.

I almost didn't noticed the time and before i knew it, i am already standing in the gymnasium, the enclosed one because we actually have two. The other one is an open area and that one is my favorite.

I can see the artificial sky from there.

I was just standing there before the Level 14 trainees who are in the middle.

The first girl, she have telekinesis, just like me but way advanced.

She doesn't need to focus too much which takes up a lot of time, like how i do. She just needs to see the thing that she wants to move and she could do it.

Across the gym, i saw Grayson but I immediately looked away.

He's on level 15 and just awaiting for the process to be in the experiment. He wore a gold nameplate which tell me so.

In his wrist is a dark blue metal bracelet and a collar with the same color, which is used to monitor level 15 trainees reflexes.

He looks bored. Like anytime, he's gonna die from seeing nothing.

I heaved a sigh. Im third in the line and i don't want to show my ability to anyone.

There's nothing special to it.

But i have no choice. My moment came in

I looked at him one last time and saw that he's looking at my direction.

"You may proceed" my instructor said

I focused on the three metal dummy in front of me.

This sucks.
