ANMELDENChapter 55
Jenna's POV
I regained my senses at the feeling of stabbing spasms stretching throughout my body. My eyelids were heavy and so I couldn't drag them open. But my other senses were working well.
I could hear and smell and feel my surroundings. The air was crackling with the chirping of thousands of crickets, meaning that I was most likely in a forest area; or where there were a lot of trees.
I dragged in a deep breath to catch scents, and realized that wood was burning somewhere. Then I heard the noise of fire crackling. A bonfire. I subtly rubbed my hand on the ground and sensed the coarse texture. Soil.
All the elements directed to one point, I was in a forest.
My eyes felt better now. I was about to open them when, "Hadn't she woken up yet?" A familiar voice asked.
"No, Alpha Chris. After she turned into her human form while fainting, she's been just like that." Someone said,
It wasn't Cleo's voice. Hmm. Perhaps Chris flew all the way to Silent Hills city with a small team secretly to seek revenge on me, and his Beta doesn't have any idea about this.
My stomach muscles clenched tight when footsteps near me. Along with it came Chris' sent— He was coming towards me.
"No wonder they say untrained wolves are suicidal." He scorned. "She's awake, idiots! Her heart rate is suspiciously slow. That can only happen if someone is forcing themselves down to remain calm. And to do that, you need to be highly focused. Aren't I right?"
"Aah!" A shooting pain exploded in my skull as Chris lifted my head by my hair. "You loser, let go."
"I didn't think I'd get my hands on you so easily when I left my pack after you this morning, Jenna. I thought you'll be under high security given your status. But not only were you alone in the woods, no one has come to look for you." His fingers tugged my hair ruthlessly, causing my head to arch.
"What happened? Did you have a fight with your husband for helping me?"
"Fûck you, mongrel. Not everyone is an egoistic bastård like you."
Chris pulled my hair tighter, raising my upper body from the ground. I hadn't realized it before, but I had iron manacles on my wrists. They chained me to a tree. The chains clinked with movements as tears welled in my eyes.
"We are going to have fun torturing you, whōre!" He hissed in my face.
Despite the pain, I asked, "We? Aren't you alone?"
"No, bìtch." A voice boomed behind him.
Chris let go and I fell down, on my belly, on the ground with a thud. My body urged me to relax a little to ease the pain. But my mind compelled me to see who it was.
"Brienne?" I forgot all the pain when my eyes settled on Doctor Henry's daughter.
Since we were in the forest in the dark, and a bonfire was crackling behind her, I couldn't see her face. I was also injected with some kind of drugs that made my body feel very weak; and my eyes extremely blurry.
She paused before me. I had to lift my head to look at her. Yet all I saw was a big silhouette. A big, scary, and overwhelming silhouette.
"Did you seriously think you would get my father killed and frame him as a râpist right in front of my eyes and I would stay quiet?"
"Aah!" I winced as she stepped on my left hand.
"I've been planning your death since that moment I saw you. You ruined my lovely plan, slůt." She put pressure on my hand with her shoe.
A bone cracked under the weight as I gnashed my teeth together to tame the pain.
"My father was helping me take care of that teenage slût. But you ruined it all!" She howled and my body went still.
"What? He was helping you?"
"Yes, bìtch. Dad was helping me. That little girl isn't as innocent as she seems. Ever since I got married to her father, she's made my life hell. She's Kalen's princess, and since she's his first mate's daughter with him, she had more control over him than I did."
"I used to get daily beatings because of her. Kalen would keep me hungry whenever she told him one of her fabricated stories. She almost pushed me to the edge... That was until dad stepped in to help me." She sat down before me and picked a few of my hair strands. "I thought my father would inject her with some deathly virus that would give her an incurable disease."
"He gave her his díck instead… And she liked it and she was so invested in it, she never raised any more problems for me. My life was good until you found out." She yanked on the strands she was holding like a rope.
A wrenching scream left my mouth as I held her wrist to stop her.
"My father was my only family left, whøre. His status as the Power Wolf Pack’s senior doctor terrified Kalen somewhat. But ever since he died, his beatings have gotten extremely cruel." She pulled harder. "I can't kill him. But I will kill you. And I'm going to take my time doing it."
"Let her go for now, Brienne. The wolfsbane is still in her veins. Its pain won't allow her to feel any other pain." Chris touched her shoulder. "We should wait until its effect wears out."
She let go and turned to Chris. I laid there with my cheek pressed on the warm soil. Its warmth was a kind of assuring caress on my skin.
'Gianna? Gia, can you hear me?'
There was a cry of agony before I heard her voice, 'It's hurting a lot, Jenna. The darts were filled with wolfsbane juice. As long as it is in our bodies, I can't shift or fight. I'm sorry, Jenna. Forgive me. I cannot protect you.'
'Hey, don't be sorry. I'm sure we can get out of here somehow.' I attempted to motivate her.
'How? Who will come to save us, Jenna? Our mate and husband... He's left us. I believe he's in his mistress's arms right now, letting her take care of his heart.'
A stab of torment pained my heart as I heard those words. Although they sounded believable, there's something I just realized.
'It's... It's not true. Jace isn't sleeping with her. I would be feeling the pain of betrayal in my abdomen right now if he was.' I whispered.
Jace... He's not my fated mate, but he loved me more than that. He always respected me and gave me authority I didn't deserve. I truly believe whatever happened tonight... It was the outcome of both our faults. We both are equally to blame.

Chapter 58 Jace's POV We were silent for a long time. Neither of us spoke. Suddenly Jenna lifted her face and eyes me innocently."What?" I chuckled. She nodded in no, "You burned Liza alive."My face stilled. I pulled her closer and joined our foreheads, "I had to. She was the bane of our family."I kissed her."Also," I added. "She made me doubt my wife's intentions. I had to punish her."At that, she hugged me tighter and rested her face on my shoulder. She was sitting straddling my waist while I held her like my toddler baby.My back had healed. Hence, I was able to sit this way.The doctors had been worried because the wound wasn't healing in my state of unconsciousness. That's the reason why they refused to give any answer. But the second I woke up, the wound healed, and all the residue of wolfsbane and silver was eliminated by my immune system."What happened to Chris and that lady?" I suddenly asked as I remembered those two."Both dead. And that lady was Doctor Henry's daug
Chapter 57Jenna's POV 'Thanks, bro. Head towards the Rogues' territory with your team. I'll meet you there.''Roger that!''Okay.'We broke the link. I sucked a sharp breath as I focused on the road ahead. If I drive at high speed, I'll get there in twenty minutes.Jenna, hold on for a while, love. Your husband is coming to get you.(Twenty minutes later)"Jace, finally you're here." Oakley came running towards my car as I applied brakes."Did you find her location?" I was not even fully out of the car."Yes, and already stationed our soldiers around the area." Oakley said, sending a wave of relief through me."Thank, goddess.""Don't worry, Jace. The situation is already in our control." Oakley flashed a shark grin and my eyebrows cocked in confusion. "Chris's soldiers look novice. They are not attentive at all, let alone alert.""I think he brought untrained wolves here. And I must add that his Beta and Gamma are not here either."I acknowledged with a nod, "He's probably doing it
Chapter 56Jenna's POV Jace has never touched her before. He hadn't done it this time either. It's that bìtch who always found ways to go near him.'There's no point in giving yourself false hope, Jenna. Jace isn't the man we thought he was. Accept it.' Gianna said.A feeling of disappointment rose over me. No! My wolf is not right here. She's hurt from Jace's wolf's words, and rest is the impact of wolfsbane.Jace loves us.'You really think that? Then tell me, why didn't he come after us when we left?'he He might have a reason.'No,' Gianna grunted weakly. 'It's because he was bewitched by his mistress's beauty and he chose her instead.'That's not true. I was breathless in anger. Gianna's words struck a chord that it shouldn't have.'I'll prove it to you that Jace still only loves us.'Having that said, I lowered my guard. I had blocked out everyone and their feelings to avoid getting caught. However, as I lowered my guard, I could feel my family's emotions— Jace's first. He was

Chapter 54Jace's POV "Let this be a lesson to all those who think they can fool the Alpha King just because I trust them." I announced as I paced around with a flaming torch in my hand. Behind me a pyre was built in the middle of the city for people to watch. On it Liza was tied to a pole. She was drenched with petrol and shaking. Her eyes were red. She begged me to let her go, that she was honestly apologetic. That she acknowledged her blunder and would go away. "My trust has never been a weakness. My willingness to believe in those who stand beside me does not make me blind, nor does my kindness make me a fool. I give people my trust because I choose to see the good in them. Because I consider them my previous ones. But the moment that trust is betrayed, do not mistake my silence for ignorance. And don't ever think that you can outsmart me."I came to a halt. The flames were crackling beside my face. It was night now, the sky was dark with no stars. There were light poles around
