Maybe too much

The group of four all gathered at the research area ahead of time. They all had something in common right now, their serious expressions.

They looked at one another and started walking towards a direction unanimously.

Outside of the principal's office, they stood all together.

They were told to first come here and then they would go to the mentioned site together with the head.Which would show their position as guests of honor.

Allen knocked at the door and opened it after hearing confirmation. They entered one by one and stood to the side.

The president lifted his eyes from his desk and gave them a questioning gaze"You don't seem very happy? Were the credits not up to expectations?"

Allen moved forward and carefully said" Sir President,we are all more than satisfied with the reward. The thing is-it-"

President smiled,"Yes, go on. Why do your expressions contradict you"

Allen replied"Sir president, you must have seen the next stage after the research right."

The president simply nodded.

That came as no surprise.Even though Allen and the others had started research first(in one aspect), the institute had more personnel after all. So they could easily accomplish it earlier than them(even in this area)

Allen continued "President you should also know that the research can't be continued and it is not, how to say, yes, feasible. It is not feasible right now. Right now we have complete control over these species because they are not out of our scope(some level of complexity was already under control)

But the current research-only thing I ask is that I hope you will reconsider your decision".

The president still had his smile. He did not reply.

Allen considered it as failure of his persuasion.Though he hoped the president would at least say something. He did not say anymore,he was only stating the worst case scenario which might not even come to pass. And there were many bright possibilities for this.Due to mutation the unicellular bacteria had a cell within it.It was not small and by mass comparable to bacterium cell. But due to contraction floated in bacterium. If this mutation could make a unicellular organism like this, how would it affect organisms with more than trillions of cells. It was just...mind-blowing.

President stood from his seat saying"You don't need to be so troubled about it.If worst comes to worst we will just destroy the research. Now we should go to the hall"The president's attitude was quite good towards them, probably because of their contribution in this research.

They left following the president. The president's decision was final,no amount of questioning would change it.

The meeting or celebration whatever you call it passed uneventfully.

The quartet returned to the research building. The did not seem too happy. They were still ruminating about how the research would turn out.

Tim said"No benefit worrying about it,it will surely bring a change to the World."

The quartet dropped the matter altogether and did not mention it again.Same old life started, but this time they were no longer so frantic.

The researchers were no longer required to stay at the institute at all times. And the quartet as 2ND division researchers were free to leave any time they wanted.

They had initially planned to stay at the institute for a few hours to a few days when the prohibition struck them. And they had to spend more than a month. They all had something planned outside the institute right now.So they left the institute in separate ways.

They did not set a fixed time to come again as they might take more than just a few days.

Allen also took the transport to a station near his house. He reached his home at 11 pm.

He entered the house and checked all its rooms but didn't find the one whom he came to find. The airtight mode was on which would not make the house perfectly airtight but would mostly prevent dust from gathering inside the house. It was used when a person would need to go outside home for a long time.

He turned off the mode.

He had not mailed his sister about his arrival and wanted to surprise her tomorrow, but who he was supposed to surprise now.

He checked his digital watch and saw no unread message.Unread mail went unread for 15 days and then would move to the server .It was not to save space but to save time.

He retrieved the data from the server and saw 2 unread messages from his sister. It was dated a previous month in which he was totally into research. So he might not have noticed it.

He opened it and came to know that she had moved to a free hostel in Austin institute reserved for honor students.

The distance from here to Institute was pretty long and would take hours by a walk so she had moved there as Allen also was not at home.

The second message asked about his condition and said that tests were soon arriving and would finish by mid of next month.

He wanted to call her home but didn't want to disturb her.So he sent her a message about him being fine and the matter about him being able to go outside institute. However he said the date would be 16th of the month.

He was resigned to spend the days at home and thought it might have been better if he had just stayed at the institute. But he could not alter the reality now could he.

So he spent the following days in the Public library to pass time. The librarian remembered him as there were not many who would come in the first place.

The librarian even invited him for a drink to which he agreed. The librarian was a female so they did not drink any alcoholic beverage. He left after thanking for the treat.

He returned to his house and then to Institute the next day.He passed through the main gate and then arrived at the department.

Luke and Yushin had sent mail to inform them they had arrived yesterday.Only Tim had not arrived yet.So they were waiting for everyone to gather.

After a few days had passed Tim had still not arrived. He arrived when they were more than just a bit impatient. So they had him treat everyone to pay for that.

They were just tasting the food when message alerts sounded.

Tim said"How many times..."he paused, noticing that again there were more message alerts than there should be.

Luke read the message aloud"The institute has invited all the researchers of 2nd and 3rd division to come and witness the new research product.Should we go?It doesn't say it's necessary for us."

Allen said"We should go.It would be good to know how far they progressed in the research"

The quartet arrived at the site a little earlier. They didn't make much of a noise as they saw even their senior 1st division members were standing without complaint. If even they were standing quietly who were the quartet to cause a ruckus.

President arrived donning a new suit. His hair was neatly combed,Shoes polished, basically every preparation one would do on a wedding or grand celebration.

The president talked after the site became completely void of human voices.

"We have made research on DNA of animals and want you to see how far we have come with this road due to everyone's support."President clapped and the curtains that seemed to be hiding something behind unfurled. They saw a Buffalo-sized guinea pig along with a Tauter sheep.

At this point the president took out a syringe that was filled with a liquid more clear than clear water. The president said"We took the blood of this genetically Modified sheep and purified it.And now it is so much different than its original state.

And now I will inject this liquid into the pig."

The president neared the syringe to the pig and injected the needle into him.The sheep was in a state of paralysis so did not even react. But when the liquid in syringe was injected the pig squeaked like the end of the world had arrived.Well it did come but for it only.

The pig tried to struggle and break the chain that bound it,it shook them with so much force that some places on its body had blood flowing but the chains were not even scratched.

The president stood near the pig observing it as well as everyone.

But if one saw the president's eyes clearly right now he could notice the crazed excitement he had in his eyes.

The pig thrashed for a couple of minutes but to no avail. The pig abruptly stopped its struggling, then they could see some visible changes occurring to the pig. It's naturally sharp canine teeth started to become more and more flat and seemed more solid in a straight row.

Those teeth were the identification of a herbivore, and they didn't quite suit the pig.But the thing to notice was not this but how in the world it had flat teeth that sheep had.

President said either answering them or sharing his happiness"This is the first real modification we have made to a living being but I assure you it will not be the last."

President and 1st division members scattered after that. They would have already known about it beforehand but still came to see the real deal.

"Wow, how did they do this so quickly?" Luke asked with an astonished expression.

"They didn't, I bet this must have taken more than just a few days to complete. They just showed it took place in a few moments. And it's not complete."

"Huh it's not complete?..." Luke and others looked at the transformed teeth again and noticed that the teeth were not completely flat but not canine either. They are somewhat inclined towards the middle. But still to give such a change the research was fruitful to say the least.

The quartet were quite happy for their research.Even if it had any defects, which thing would not have even a single one of them.

From this moment on, the project "Evo" has officially started.
