pain as an illusion

Freya's POV

Pain.

Pain seemed to be the dominant feeling I experienced the very moment I opened my eyes.

" Prisoner six! Get a move on we don't have all day to play babysitting." A guard boomed, his voice causing some of my clan to shiver and cower.

" Prisoner six! Did you not hear what I just said?" He yelled again.

Blurry. My vision was still blurry as I felt my body being lifted off the floor like I was a feather, a slap crossing my cheeks swiftly.

Oh. I was prisoner six.

" The alpha would like that one. She has a big mouth on her and quite impressive skills. Single handedly killed hundreds of our good men." Another guard chimed in.

Even though the snicker was evident in his voice, I could not help but feel proud. I took the lives of these monsters'friends. Just like they took the lives of mine.

My body hit the sand again and the journey continued. I had no idea where we were going but I knew this was the end. The end of humanity. These monsters have taken over.

The burden I carried in my chest weighed me down with every step that I took. They had come into our villages, raided the stores and killed the people. My people.

When we finally came to a halt, it was in front of a gigantic gate with intricate designs.

" Separate the warriors from the citizens. The alpha wants to meet them" a voice hollered.

Still in my hazy state, I felt one of them drag me forward, nudging me as he made me kneel.

" She is the only warrior that survived" the guard said.

I raised my head slightly, just enough to avoid the rising gaze of the morning sun in my eyes and also to see the man in front of me.

He had a look of surprise on his face as he glared down at me.

" She? How is that even possible..." He asked.

" She is a beast in battle. With all her injuries she has refused to die." The guard said.

" I will take her to the alpha myself, get the rest locked up in the dungeon" the man said.

Again, I was yanked, onto my feet and pushed towards the finely patterned steps.

" Imagine if I had your blood splayed on these walls..." I muttered, a sadistic joke that bordered on wishful thinking.

The guard chuckled. A slow menacing sound.

" I would advise you to keep your lips sealed when you meet the alpha" he said, no words leaving his mouth again until we got to where I presume the alpha was.

The big doors opened to an even bigger room, painted dark grey with the mahogany shelves standing on either sides of the office.

" Alpha... She is the only warrior that survived" the guard said.

There was silence for what felt like decades. The nagging headache prevented me from looking at their so called leader.

" Look at me human..." He said, his voice gruff, almost as though he was struggling to keep his beast at bay. I wanted to defy him, to see just how much of a monster I could let out of him, but I decided against that.

Ever so slightly, I raised my eyes to hold his, my dull brown eyes against his fierce blue ones. It was probably a figment of my imagination or maybe I had collected one too many hits on my head, but I could have sworn I saw his eyes darken.

" Leave" he growled now, voice low as he looked at the guard, leaving me unnerved.

When the door finally closed behind the guard, he was before me in a flash, as he grabbed into my shoulders, sizing me up with his eyes. I had never felt so small.

He was bigger than most men from my clan, with dashing hair that for odd reasons I wanted to run my fingers through.

I cautioned my train of thoughts, refusing to look at him and instead focus on his surroundings.

I hated the fact that I was looking at a beast like him that way, but he was handsome.

" Yet another trickery of the goddess. You? My mate?" He asked almost as though the thought in itself was laughable.

To me it was. I have heard about how these animals depended on a fictional bond to pick their soulmates.

The absurdity of it was one. The fact that he considered me his was another.

I looked behind him, my eyes falling on a picture frame of he and a blonde haired man. A sadistic smile formed on my face.

" Oh, were the both of you very close? That's a shame. I had slit his throat and stared into his eyes, watching him breathe his last" I said.

The smile grew wider as I took in his face. He let out a guttural roar that rampaged through the whole room, threatening to bring it to the ground. The shelves vibrated and the ceiling lights shook.

His eyes were now a pale white, to signal the arrival of his wolf. In that split instant I thought he would hurt me, I prepared myself to embrace that hurt even, but he didn't.

He pushed me into the floor again as though he had just come to his senses, bellowing for a guard.

" Take her to the dungeon, make sure she is starved and beaten every hour. And then put her to work on the field." He said to the guards.

I scoffed. He could do better.

Finally, his cold eyes landed on me. I felt a shiver run down my spine as his gaze lingered for what felt like delicate moments on me, each stare making me doubt myself a little more.

" I, alpha zarek Leonid of the moon crest pack reject you human as my mate and soulmate." He said.

I did not know him, hated him and his kind even. But when he said those words, somehow I felt my heart drop to my feet.

Chapter 9Kaiser's POV The thing about fatigue? It did not seem to be noticed until you took a seat, and then everything will come weighing down like a boulder. On days like these, I preferred to stay locked up in my office away from the noise that the pack members loved to make. But today was slightly different.Marina burst through my doors, not acknowledging me as much as a knock before opening it, her eyes blazing.I had expected her for a while now, wondered when she will show up in fact, and seeing her now, I was not surprised." Is she fully settled in?" I asked, my eyes seeming to blur as I stared at the newspaper in front of me." Why would you do something like this kaiser!? A human? To these packs? No. She can't stay..you have to kill her or get her away from this pack because she is good as dead anyways" she said.I sighed, taking off my glasses in search of reprieve."You are asking me to kill my mate?" I asked her softly.Of all the people in this world, she alone coul

Freya's POV I could feel the heat waves of hate leaving her, her eyes focused on the back of my head as I walked in front of her my body stiff, mind running haywire. I could almost hear the thoughts running through her mind even though she did not say them.I was a human..filthy and weak. And somehow, I had the alpha bringing me to his house.I waddled shamefully through the floors." Where the hell do you think you are going you filthy creature? The servants rooms are this way" she said calling me back before I could make further descent into the dark hallways.I watched her mutter a few angry words as she walked ahead of me now, opening a door that I could have sworn was a closet door and staring back at me." This is where you will be staying with the rest of the servants. Check the wardrobe and you will find a gown, the servants are expected to look uniform in all circumstances. And I'm sure you need that change of dress anyways" she said.I stared at her,and then back in the cl

Chapter 7Freya's POV The satisfaction blossomed in my eyes as he drew his hands back, the crimson blood a tell tale sign of how well my knife had met his mark.I gripped onto the knife sharply, preparing for the attack I expected to come. If I was going to die, I knew I was going to be taking one of these bastards with me.But the war did not come. None of them took a step closer to me, or made to curtail my weapon. And the monster I had stabbed...His eyes seemed to tinkle with surprise, but no pain..nothing. like the gushing wound in his side was not enough to cause even a wolf to double." I assume you don't have anything that belongs to you here then. Let's go" he said, his arms wrapping around me all over again, putting me on his shoulder. The knife in my hands clattered to the floor in shock and it was at that moment I realized my stupid flaw. How could I drop my weapon when I was still in the midst of these monsters." Drop me down this instant! Let me go!" I yelled, punching

Kaiser's POVI hated a lot of things.I hated how the women ogled at me as I walked into the hall, I hated how cheap the wine tasted and I hated how irritating it was getting to hear him speak. But what I hated the most, was when the moon goddess decided to make a fool of me.She was so small, yet so fierce in a feminine way that I did not know was possible. The minute the words left my mouth, the whole room went into an uproar, the whispers flying around so quickly it made me sick to my stomach. But zarek still stood, his eyes in slits now as he looked at me, eyes boring into mine." You! Take her back to her cell" he said, signalling to one of the guards that stood nearby." If any one of you lay as much as a finger on her I would cut it off" i said, voice still.I stared at karim, my beta and he nodded explicitly, his hands now guarding his sword, daring." I asked you to take her back to her cell!" Zarek yelled now, causing the guard to dare, his hands lifting to drag the tray out

Freya's POV.Agatha was right. This place was like a minefield of bitter and angry people who tried their hardest to mask their distaste with a smile.Ray had disappeared into another room the moment I stepped into the hall, leaving me standing there, feeling less than as I walked around with the tray of drinks in my hands, trying to fit in with the other servers. But I didn't. I knew my scent was different, making me an easy prey." A human?! Zarek you really outdid yourself" one woman said as she tapped zarek on the hand happily the moment I passed. His eyes widened as he spotted me, questioning why I was out of that rotten cell and serving drinks, but I paid him no heed, the rebellious part of me enjoying the confusion in his eyes a single gave him a glass of drink, eyes mocking him." She is a prisoner of war" he replied simply, face now stern as he snatched the drink away. She giggled. One of those fake laughter I have heard women do when they are trying to seduce men.She turned

Freya's POV " What are you doing here? You want to kill me finally?" I asked him, taunting him, enjoying how haphazard his gaze seemed to be.He muttered a jabble of words and spittle, opening the cage door and dragging me out.I expected a lot of things. A slap, maybe insults." I hate you..I hate you so much that my blood curdles just staring at you" he said, voice taunt. Those words seemed like razors in the skin of my heart.I did not remember being so touchy when it came to words, but I knew, that somehow, his words affected me more than I had bargained for." Well you can leave then. After all you want me dead in the fields " I said to him. Now, in that dimly lit room, I could see pain enter his eyes as I said that. One moment, I was standing in front of the bars, taunting him with my words and my eyes, and the next, the cage doors were flung open, pressing me on the wall, his body flush on mine." I hate you. I hate the thought of you and the sound of your voice. But this stup
