Thirty: His, Mine.
My exam had been good, yet quite bad.  It was a bit bad because I had thought about Roy while taking it, so I had almost gotten distracted by that. But well, I hadn't been so distracted after all. I had done it very well.  Although the exam had lasted for three hours, I had decided to wait longer at school. I had roamed about, eaten lunch at the cafeteria, and had maybe hoped that I would see Roy around.  Right now, it was six in the evening, and I was so exhausted. I was exhausted and sad. Roy hadn't called or texted me all day, and it made me wonder if he was angry or something. It seemed liked I had overreacted last night. I should have answered him when he had called me back.  Stepping into my room, I hurried to my bed, tossed my backpack on it, and sat on it. Bella was asleep, which was weird since this was only six. Someone was in the bathroom, and that would probably be Vir

Thirty one: Missing
I strolled on the silent road. The only things that were heard were the crickets, owls and bats. The place was dark, only the moon shining against the asphalt. Sweat dripped from my forehead, making me realize how tired I was.  I was wearing no shoes, my dress was tattered, and my long hair was tousled. I felt a thick pain in my lower abdomen, and from my neck to my back, it felt like a rock was thrown against that region of my body.  The place was suffocating, I gasped for air. I was exhausted, trekking aimlessly, praying to God that I would get home as soon as possible. Something pinched my palm, and moving my eyes to whatever that was, I realized I was holding my necklace. This necklace that I didn't know what it entailed.  Soon, the vicinity was surrounded with thick echoes of a woman's voice.  "Leave Roy!" The voice cried. "Don't get into danger. Don't make me haunt you! Don'

Thirty two: Still missing
"Are you at home?" I was finally able to say something to her.  "Yeah, yeah." She wept even harder. "Melissa and I are so helpless. We don't know where to find her. I don't know what to do. And it seems like Melissa's blood pressure is high. She's freaking out." "Have you reported it to the police?" I asked.  "Yes, we have. But they've got no trace of her." "Okay. I'll be on my way there. Please try to keep Melissa calm. We'll find Lisa soon. Amen," I added, then hung up the call.  Dreaded, I turned to Roy. He was already standing, staring at me. "Roy!" I hurried to him, weeping. "My cousin is missing. We don't know what to do. She's only a little girl so there's no way she knows her way back home. What do I do?" "Calm down." He cupped my face with his hands, pecked my forehead. "Don't worry. We'll find her. You're going home, right?"&n

Thirty three: Mom
Melissa clutched to her husband like bread and peanut butter. She wept on his chest, and he kept patting her. I glanced at the wall clock, and seeing it was almost twelve in the midnight, I fretted. Roy wasn't back, as well, the police hadn't given us any information about Lisa.  This was scary.  I walked into the kitchen to get a glass of water. Water was what could reduce the knot in my stomach. Getting there, I spotted mom standing by the sink. She looked like a startle as she stared out the window.  "Mom?" I tapped her from behind, and she flinched.  "Oh. Honey." She wiped her tears, inhaled hard. Turning to me, she swallowed. "Has that guy called you? Did he find her?" "No." I shook my head. "He said he should be able to find her, but I kind of have doubts about that." She walked to the counter, and sat on one of the high stools besid

Thirty four: Middle-class
It was exactly six o'clock in the evening. I stared at my reflection in the mirror, smiled at how pretty I looked. Bella was quite good at doing makeup, so she had done it for me. Standing up, I glimpsed at my dress. This dress had been given to me by my grandma, just before she had died, two years ago. It was a red evening gown. As well, my hair was in wavy curls, and again, it was in its normal brown color.  Walking to my bed, I grabbed my grey slingback heel, slipped it on, just ready to leave. Taking my purse, I glance at Bella.  "And how do I look?" I grinned at her.  She peck her hand, flipped it at me. "Absolutely gorgeous. There's no doubt every guy there will fall for you " "Thanks," I added, and headed out immediately.  Stepping out of the compound, I waited for Roy to arrive. I didn't want anyone to see me dressed up like this,

Thirty five: Apology
“What's going on here?”“Who's this middle class?”“How did she get here?”“Is she a thief?” Those were the words the people around me muttered. I was helpless, sad and alarmed. This was a really great embarrassment. In my entire life, I hadn't ever experienced anything like this.  They thought I was a thief?  I tried so hard to prevent the tears from leaving my eyes. "Ma'am, I'm so sorry for spilling wine on your dress. I was on the phone, so it was an accident." "How in the world did you get here?" She narrowed her eyes at me, dropped her hands on her waist. "I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure I haven't seen this face before." "I came here with someone," I informed her. I was sad, yet angry. Just because I wasn't as rich as them, didn't mean she had to embarrass me this much.  S

Thirty six: Enough
I closed my eyes. In situations like this, mom always said I should walk away. But how would I do that when the crowd had their eyes on me? My gown had torn, exposing the skin of my knee to my feet. Thank goodness the lap region didn't tear. Okay. Roy was the one who could save me right now. But again, where had he gone to? My eyes held some tears, but I held them from leaving my eyes. Some jobless people were gossiping about me, but that wasn't my concern for now. I guessed I would just have to be bold enough to walk out of here.  "Renee." I felt relief to see Jason walk to me. He stood in front of me, looking worried. "Are you okay? How did this happen?" He spoke silently.  "I tripped on my dress. I don't even know what to do. Where's the restroom?" I questioned him.  He flipped his hand in the air. "Come with me." "What's happening? Why is e

Thirty seven: Advice
"And so, I'll be moving out of here," Barbara informed all three of us, my roommates.  I saw tears in her eyes. Since she was going to graduate soon, she was going to leave the dorm. I felt a little sad about it, because I would miss her drama and all. I wished she was in the saw year as us.  We were all on her bed. I dropped my elbow on the bed, kept my chin in my palm, pouting. "Gosh, I'll miss you so much. Isn't there any other option?" "I can't stay here forever, silly." She chuckled.  "When will you be leaving?" Virginia asked her.  "Um…" she sucked her teeth, creased her eyebrows. "Next week. I told my parents I'd like to move to my own house, so they're helping me get one." "Nice," Bella remarked. "I wish my parents would allow that. But no, dad's overly protective of his sweet baby girl. He would say, ‘No honey, what i

Thirty eight: ALL
Since mom had advised me to get back with Roy, I had called him about three times when I had arrived back at my dorm this morning. To my surprise, he hadn't answered my calls. At first, I had thought he probably hadn't been with his phone, but this was three o'clock in the afternoon already. Wouldn't he have seen my missed calls? What was wrong with him? Had he decided to leave me completely? Was he truly going to move on? Had Kathleen poisoned his mind against me? Had he fallen for her in only a week plus? Shit, this was going to make my hormones stop working. I was running crazy. Frustrated, I smacked a pillow against my face, screamed in it. What the heck could possibly be going on with him? How was I going to get answers to these questions? "What's up now?" Bella's voice startled me. When did she walk into the room? Was I that intense in thinking about Roy that I didn't even notice her coming in?

Thirty nine: Complicated
We all remained silent. I was so nervous, my heart leaping to my throat, back to my chest. This couldn't be. My friend would die? "Virginia." Barb sat in the space beside her, Barb's eyes filled with tears. "I-I don't get you. How did this happen? Y-You're still joking, right?" Virginia continued to weep. "I noticed I was having terrible headaches, constant fever, my bones and joints ached, my tummy hurt. So, I decided to go to the hospital." Bella lurched to Virginia, sat beside her. She patted Virginia's back to probably help her feel better, also crying too.  "When I told the doctor all this, he asked me if I was bleeding too," Virginia continued. "I told him yes. So, he took a test. Going back to the hospital, I was diagnosed with cancer. I-I don't know how it happened. I'm just so…" Unable to speak properly, she broke out in tears again. She yanked her hair, then
