51. Training II
I sat for a few more minutes in an attempt to level my breathing. Gwaine excused himself, walked back into the training school and returned after a few minutes.“You ready?” He asked, proceeding to pull a blindfold out of his pocket.“Would you let me rest a bit more if I say I’m not?” I asked, lifting myself off the ground.“Not at all.”“Why’d you bother asking then?” I asked, feigning anger. He shrugged his shoulders and that was the only response he gave.“Now, we’re testing your ability to filter through the sounds around you.” He said, walking closer to where I stood.“What does that mean?” I asked, clearly lost.“It means that you have to focus on one single thing. This is the point where you let go of every single thought and noise and focus on just that one sound that you want to hear. It means that you focus so hard on it that even as faint as it may be or no matter the distance that it might be coming from, you can precisely pick it out and tell what it is.” Gwaine replied.

52. Realization
Gwaine’s POVThe sound of approaching footsteps forced my eyes open and I jerked out of bed, already on alert as I scanned the room in search of anything threatening. It was dark and normally, my eyes adjusted to the darkness just fine but now, everything seemed blur. I could hardly make out anything in the room, save for the window in a corner with a bit of light pouring into the room. I couldn’t see anything beyond the window. I stretched my hand to turn on the light but realized that for some reason, the electricity had been cut off. I sighed as I forced myself out of bed, while simultaneously asking Vilkus to take control so I could use his wolf senses.A few shapes in the room began to make sense after Vilkus took over and just when I was starting to adjust to the darkness, I heard footsteps approaching in the dark and I squinted to see who it was but It was a distance away so I couldn’t make out whoever it was.“Catherine?” I called out, wondering if the steps belonged to her.

I dashed out of the office, almost bumping into Regan at the door. His hands were up so I figured he was just about to knock on the door. “Hi Cat.” He greeted, eyeing me suspiciously. I mumbled a reply but the words that spilled out of my mouth seemed incoherent. I didn’t know if he heard me, I didn’t stop to wonder, I made my way towards the stairs and into the kitchen. I was almost out of breathe when I got to the bottom of the staircase. Nicole was in the kitchen when I walked in. I heard a light tap on my door and I stirred in my sleep, opened my eyes to see Nicole walk into the room. “I thought you’d be up and getting ready by now?” She asked, pulling the blanket away from me. She wrapped it in what looked like a ball and tossed it right at my face. “Ouch!” I yelled, my voice sounded muffled as the weight of the blanket had drowned the sound.Nicole giggled as she pushed it away from my face.“What time is it?” I asked, rubbing on my eyes with the back of my palm. “It’s err… 6:47pm.” Nicole answered, looking over at the clock on the nightstand. Gwaine’s POV:The drive home was quiet and pleasant as Catherine was already asleep in the car. I watched her as she slept, occasionally helping her maintain a good position as she kept dozing in all directions. I secured the wheel with one hand and used the other to fix her seatbelt. I laid on the bed half awake, but struggling to go back to sleep. I felt like I was at peace. I could feel someone nudging me quietly to come awake but I ignored, holding on to that last bit of sleep for dear life. I shut my eyes tighter to block them but suddenly, I felt the blanket as it was pulled away from my skin, letting the cold air kiss my skin. I opened my eyes, already pissed at whoever dared to disrupt my rest. I saw Gwaine standing at the foot of the bed, my blanket in his hand. A fresh bout of nausea woke me up and I sat upright on the bed hoping to chase it away before it escaped my throat. I closed my eyes against the sudden onslaught of light in the room. I had been sleeping on my stomach which had been extremely uncomfortable because I had to careful of my stomach but it really was the only way I could sleep to prevent running to the bathroom throughout the night. The sheets were twisted into a tangled mess around my hips and feet. My arms and legs were hanging off the bed, one foot still dangling onto the floor with the toe pointed towards the bedpost. I sat in the silence of my room, completely engrossed in my drawing. My left hand lazily caressing my stomach. These past few days has been difficult as I woke up sick every day. The morning sickness was as bad as it comes but I’ve been happy the entire process. Gwaine’s support has been my source of Joy recently as he was constantly doting on me. He is always present before I even need him. Although I’m in great discomfort most of the time, it’s been pleasant to have people who love me around.It didn’t feel like a chore and I’ve learned to handle it well. Gwaine’s POV:I leaned on my arm as I watched Catherine sleep. She was spread lazily on the bed and the morning sunlight fell just so, illuminating every inch of her body. It made everything more beautiful and that made me feel a pang a warmth, an affection which I couldn't explain. The sheets shifted a bit, exposing the now visible buldge on her stomach. She was only a few weeks pregnant but she was already twice her size. Her belly was distended slightly, giving her a big bump that looked like she was more advanced than she actually was. I leaned in and trailed a finger on her stomach, it felt harder than I expected. There was a sudden movement in her stomach and I could swear I felt the baby kick.
