Portraits were hung along the grey painted walls, a few chaise lounges, with small tables and lamps decorating the hallway. #Chapter14The bright morning light invaded the room, waking me from my deep slumber and that horrible nightmare. I lay there, thinking about the dream that I had encountered. I had never seen a face, just teeth, but why was I covered in blood? Who was attacking me? I reminded myself that it was just a dream and cleared my mind of it. I sat up and stretched. As I looked around the room, I realized that I was alone and the bed was empty; Cain must have left at some point. I breathed a sigh of relief, thankful I didn’t have to face him yet. I got up from the bed and went to the bathroom to do my morning business.After finishing up in the bathroom, I walked over to the bedroom door and pressed my ear against the cold wood, listening carefully for any voices on the other side. #Chapter16I began pacing the room, feeling anxious and useless. Whenever something happened back home, I always assisted. My family and pack members were proud of me for the skills and abilities I brought to the pack; it made me feel included and appreciated. Time had been slowly passing since Cain brought me to the dungeon, no one came, and I didn’t hear anything outside the room. I walked to the balcony doors again, gazing around, when once again, I saw the dark figure lurking in the trees. But this time, they stepped out from the shadows, making themselves visible for me to see. It was a tall man; he didn’t appear to be very built, seemed a bit older, with a hint of silver dusting his golden-brown locks. He just stood there staring at me, and a grin spread across his face; I continued to stare back, not moving. I wanted so badly to go out there, to ask him what he wanted and why he was watching me. #Chapter18I woke in a panic, covered in sweat, my heart pounding and unable to catch my breath. I closed my eyes to calm myself, taking slow, deep breaths. After a moment, I began to feel calm and relaxed.I opened my eyes and looked around, realizing I was in what looked like a hospital bed. Machines and other medical equipment surrounded me. I could hear people talking just outside the room; one of the voices sounded like Cain, another sounded like Calyx and the third voice I didn’t recognize. I attempted to sit up, but upon doing so, my head throbbed. I placed my hand to my head, cradling it, and that’s when I felt the large bandage wrapped around my head. The concern over the dressing quickly faded as my head throbbed painfully again. This headache was worse than a hangover. I sat back down and listened to the voices nearby.“She will be fine, Alpha. It’s a nasty bump, but no real damage or anything serious. She will make a full recovery.” A woman’s voice explained. “Good,

#Chapter20I ran a hand down the back of my head. “Sorry about that,” I said shamefully.He looked everywhere but at me. “It’s alright. Are you ok?”I nodded my head. “Oh yes, I am fine. Thank you.” I gave him a small smile. The way he had looked at me a moment ago made me feel a bit uncomfortable in his presence now. Calyx gave me a curt nod. “Good, what had you so distracted?” He asked curiously.“The paintings on the walls. Some of them are very beautiful.” I said honestly; they were colourful and filled with so much detail; it was like they told a story. Calyx looked around at the paintings, but one in particular, he seemed to focus on the most “Yes, some of them are, and some…are dark and ugly.” He said in a cold tone. “True, but so are some people, and yet, they are still admired and cherished.” I pointed out to him, hoping he would catch onto who I was talking about. “Good point.
