Aurora's POVYet to register the shock of seeing him and Silva in the reception room, he had requested for a document. Standing there with my heart lodged in my chest, I kept staring into space, thinking of nothing in particular as my heart rammed against my chest. I was scared, Silva’s gaze was on me and it seemed like he could see through me. Folding my hands in front of me with my head bowed, I tried to leave but my legs were suddenly glued to the ground. My neck became stiff so I couldn’t raise it or twist it to the side. “I have other things to handle, why are you wasting my time?” Asher broke the silence in the room. Raising my head slowly, I managed to lock eyes with him though it was for a split second. His expression was blank and unreadable and he wasn’t even sparing me a glance.Maybe this wasn’t about Silva. Maybe this was about me?Unknowingly to me, I had been holding on to an important document that could either crash or save the Kingdom. Who knows if Palmer was

Asher's POVIt had been a week since I saw Aurora or even spoke to her. Though it was necessary, it was tough trying to keep away from her just in case the curse snapped but I had to do it. I had promised not to kill her and this was the least I could do, staying away from her. During this time, I spent countless hours reviewing the documents Palmer kept bringing to my table. Seeing all these broke my heart as I wasn’t expecting Silva of all people to be plotting my downfall. We had come a long way for him to backstab me. I felt stupid because I defended him countless times only for the truth to prevail. After informing Elder Jared, my personal adviser, what I had been up to, he had suggested I made Silvia be the victim of the curse and I didn’t argue. He deserved to die and I will do that happily as long as my mate will be free from the shackles of the curse. Earlier when I left the reception room where everything had been staged, there was a victorious smirk on the side of my

Aurora's POVIt happened so fast. Just as Asher was about to lunge at me and tear me into pieces, a strong hand pulled me from outside and the next sound I heard was the door slamming shut. Breathing heavy, I stared at the closed door; my heart lunged inside of my mouth. Behind the door was Asher, he was a seething beast. I wanted to run but I couldn’t move my feet as I kept staring at the door, my lips slightly apart. “What were you doing there? Trying to get yourself killed, huh?” Elder Jared yelled, he was the one who had pulled me out of his study. “I…” I tried to speak but a hard jam on the door made me scramble to my feet at once. “Don’t be anywhere around him until the curse breaks.” He said, nodding towards the opposite side of the hall. I didn’t ask any questions, I just did as I was told. At dusk, I made my way to the garden. At least, I was safer here than being in the palace where Silva and Asher were actively after my life. The night air was cold, but I couldn’t go

Aurora’s POVLooking over my shoulders, I couldn’t breathe.I was expecting to see Silva, towering above me and Asher with a triumphant look on his face but he was there, lying lifeless on the ground just like Asher who had collapsed a while ago. What happened?A million and one questions were making rounds in my head but there was no one to answer them. One second, Asher was standing, pulling me away from Silva's corpse and then examining me with a sense of urgency but the next minute his legs gave out. He dropped to the ground with a thud that made my heart fall right into my stomach. “Asher?” I whispered, leaning close. I was waiting for him to snap his eyes open and tell me it was a joke to scare me. I wouldn’t be mad, I just wanted him to snap his eyes open and put an end to this. But still, he didn’t respond. His eyes were closed. There was no blood, no wounds I could see but he wasn’t moving. He just lay there, motionless. Unable to hold back anymore, I mustered the last st

Asher’s POVA sharp pain to my head made my eyes snap open as I sat up with a sharp inhale like I was surfacing from a deep river. The room was too quiet as the morning sun filtered through the floral curtains. Looking around, I tried to piece together what had happened the previous night then I heard it. It was the sound of soft breathing by my side that I couldn’t ignore. Titling my head to the side, I saw Aurora, curled up in the chair next to the bed, her mouth was slightly open and she was snoring lightly. Her little arms were wrapped around herself like she was holding something dear to her heart. Her hair which was all over her face was a tangled mess and her dress was soaked with Silva’s blood, she didn’t bother cleaning up after the traumatic night she had undergone. My chest, which had been tightened for a few weeks, was now light. I could breathe freely just like everyone else. My relief and joy knew no bounds. The curse which I had been trying to deal with for years

Aurora’s POVA month had passed since Silva's death.A month since I was bathed with his blood and Asher collapsing beside me, almost lifeless. A week since the curse broke, setting a new life ahead of us.The only thing that hadn’t changed was Asher’s refusal to name a new beta.I had brought it up a few days ago, careful not to irk him but he had waved it off with a simple response, “Not yet.”He didn't need to give me reasons because I knew exactly what that meant. He didn’t trust anyone to take up that position, not after Silva’s betrayal. Well tonight, there was a regional gathering in the pack event centre and as the co host, I couldn't escape this not after a year of having it my way.And for the first time since I became the Queen, I was going to attend a formal function by Asher’s side. The regional gathering was a formal event that was heard quarterly. Alpha's from all over the region gathered to encourage peace and stability among themselves. With my heart bubbling with e

Aurora’s POVWhile I chatted with Gavin earlier, I felt gazes piercing through my skin. They were curious glances since this was my first appearance but still it was too much. I was just like them and not the alien they were trying to make me be with their stares that bored holes in my skin. Among all the people staring, there was Jake, swirling the content of his glass, his eyes not leaving me even for a second. Thanks to the guests all over and the distance between us, I couldn't tell him off like I wanted. Asher was not coming back anytime soon and I was losing my head so I decided to step away from the table pending when he would return. But to my horror, Jake came after me, halting right next to me with a lazy smile dancing on his lips. There was also Scarlet lurking around in the corner. My instincts screamed at me as my fingers curled tightly around the stem of my glass.Running off was the perfect response to this but I didn’t want to cause a scene. This wasn’t the time

Asher’s POVThe atmosphere in the hall was saturated with low music, soft laughter, and the clinking of glasses which rented the air. The regional gathering was everything the meeting of Alphas should be. It was formal, respectful and polished but my focus wasn’t on the conversation around me. Instead, it was on her, Aurora. Since I left the table to meet up with Cain, I couldn't stop looking over my shoulder to take a quick glance at her. I was acting like a teenager in love which gave me thrills. It had been a while since I was this free and relieved so I welcomed it wholeheartedly. The moment Gavin took over my seat I had been occupying, I saw the way her shoulders stiffned, the way her hand curled around her glass of cocktail. As if Gavin’s presence was not enough, Jake walked up to her and then Scarlet. They were too close and the discomfort in her eyes and demeanour couldn't be missed. Several times, I had been tempted to step in, especially when Scarlet joined with a man

Reader’s POVShaking her legs with her hands crossed on her chest, Scarlet was staring at the wall like something only she could read was written on it. Since the previous night, she hasn't been herself after seeing the bond between Asher and Aurora. On the other hand was Emma who was trying to comfort her while Jake was leaning against the door, staring boringly at her. “Are you still brooding over what happened last night? I mean, you should let it slide… You're the one having a hard time here, Aurora is probably having a good time with her mate who dotes on her.” Jake sang like a canary. He did nothing but to fuel the anger which she felt but he didn't care a bit."Jake is right.” Emma said, pressing her hand lightly. “Mom, are you taking sides with Jake now?” She shrieked. "He was with me, he saw how she humiliated me without saying a word.” She yelled while Jake tossed his head backwards in pure frustration. He wanted to yell at her but that was only going to worsen the sit

Asher’s POVThe meeting with three Alphas from the Western area was taking more time than intended. According to plan, it was supposed to wrap up after two hours but it seemed that wasn't going to happen. Drumming my fingers against the table, I tried to be present in the meeting but my mind kept drifting off.I had a pile of papers on my table waiting for my attention so the delay was getting me on the edge. We were discussing on opening a center which was going to be a neutral ground that would welcome all packs, and rogues who needed shelter. From my point of view, it wasn't a bad idea in theory. But theory and reality were two different things and I knew how swift good intentions could turn into a political crisis.Despite knowing this, I allowed the conversation to keep going. Nodding only when it's appropriate and chirping in only a few words. Finally, the meeting came to an end and I was relieved. “Thanks for your time." I shook hands with each Alpha one after the other b
