•Juliet’s POV•A rush of adrenaline prickled my pulse as I stood by the entrance to the waiting classroom, staring at Edward as he leaned close to the ground, laughing so hard while watching the kids play. The way he interacted with the kids, ruffling Jace’s hair in return, made my heart jump. I'd never seen Jace this happy and having so much fun before. This was my fear, Edward giving my son the impression that he was his father, and this whole scenario happening.I looked toward Jace’s teacher's direction. A young man was leaning close to her, resting his hand on her desk, obviously flirting. Having received an urgent call from her that a strange man was in Jace’s school claiming to be his father, I didn’t spend a second waiting. I hastily began my steps toward the car, with Eric following closely."Should I intervene?" Eric mumbled from behind me, glaring in Edward’s direction. Edward hadn’t noticed our presence until I took a step closer. His gaze snapped to mine, and I felt the t

•Juliet’s POV•"The theme should be gold and crystal," I told the young brunette lady as she sat on the couch in my living room."Okay," she replied, jotting something down on the notepad in her hand. "What about the design and the birthday theme?""Concerning that, Eric will reach out to you regarding the design," I said. "But for now, work on the theme."The lady stood up. "Okay, Miss Ryder," she replied, then turned toward the door as I grabbed my phone from the table. It had been making sharp dinging sounds repeatedly, and I assumed someone had been sending me tons of messages.Looking at the phone, my eyes widened in shock as I stared at three messages from James. {How are you doing, Juliet? I've been thinking about you all day and drowning in the thought of asking you out on another date.}{This time, it would be in a secluded spot, and we won't be disturbed by anyone.}{Don't tell me you decided to just stare at this message and say nothing.}I leaned back against the couch, s

•Juliet's POV•The cool evening air brushed against my face, pushing strands of my hair into my eyes. I brushed them away and tucked them behind my ear. As I walked further, James took the lead, his hands shoved into his pockets, giving me a full view of his back.I quickly looked away, scolding myself for staring at him that much. I was supposed to act like a boss lady, not some drooling teenager. I focused my gaze on the environment instead, gawking at James would only make me feel more ridiculous. The place was calm almost like a garden, but it was a small, cozy spot with a pool by the side. Lounge chairs were arranged neatly beside the pool, and a table and chair were secluded in a corner not far from the pool across the tiled floor. Warm lights glowed softly between neatly trimmed rose bushes, giving the place a peaceful, almost magical vibe."What's this place?" I asked as James pulled out a chair for me to sit."It's a little spot I come to when I want to clear my head," he rep

•Juliet's POV•My breath caught in my throat as I stared into James’s eyes. We stood like that for a while, and I wondered what was so interesting in my eyes that he kept staring at them. I was lost in the uncomfortable silence, trying to understand why I hadn’t made any attempt to push him away or say something.“I’m sorry,” he said, his eyes leaving mine as he let go of my waist. I took a deep breath and hesitantly stepped away from him. “I got carried away.”I gulped down the unease rising in my throat and let out a slight laugh. “So, your dad loved this place too?” I asked, walking around and gently touching the roses near the signpost.“No, but I’m sure if he had seen it, he would’ve loved it,” James replied, taking a step closer. I looked over my shoulder through my peripheral vision, just to ensure what had happened wouldn’t happen again.“He must’ve been a nice man,” I said, still focused on the signpost. “What was he like?” I asked curiously. He clicked his tongue. “My dad wa

• Juliet’s POV • I let out a heavy breath as I relaxed into the car seat, my thoughts spiraling out of control. For a moment, I genuinely believed I was going to get a migraine. After all the effort I’d put into convincing Jace, even going as far as bribing him with his favorite ice cream, he finally walked into his new school without saying a word as he licked his favorite ice cream But what kept echoing in my mind was a question I couldn’t shake. Was I doing the right thing? As Eric pulled into the parking lot of my company, I took a deep breath and reminded myself not to let Jace’s resistance to the school change distract me from work and told myself that, with time, he would adjust. I stepped out of the car as Eric began listing the day’s agenda. “First, we’ll check out customer reviews, then see what’s going on in the packaging area, review the investor contract deal, check sales reports, and lastly…” He glanced down at his tablet before looking at me just as the entranc
