BridgetteI barely batted an eye at his outburst, I stared right back at him, my chin raised, “That name Mr Warner. And for the record, I am very careful and good too, that's why I'm being paid top dollars to do my job, so Let me do my job.”The room went silent, not even a breath could be heard as we stared in a stalemate, neither of us backing down, and yet something about his gaze made my stomach churn in a way that wasn't entirely sisterly. He broke contact first, which I was thankful for, any more of that staring I knew I wouldn't have been able to hold myself from saying something I shouldn't have.Ryhsand leaned back into his seat, his lips pursed as though he had eaten something bad, before giving a go ahead for the start of the meeting. My subordinates looked at me and I nodded giving the go-aheadRhysand caught the action, his eyes darkened and scoffed, but I ignored him, settling into my seat.He stared for a few seconds, before looking away and I let out a breath I didn'

Rhysand“You wanted to see me, Mr Warner. I have a few minutes to spare, what's the problem?”Every word I planned to say vanished into thin air at the sight of her. I cleared my throat, as I tried to get my thoughts in order, but her voice cut through, cold and impatient “Mr Warner, my time is valuable. You wanted to see me. What's the problem?”You are the problem. I can't fucking do anything without thinking about you. How soft you felt in my arms, your lips brushing mine. For some godforsaken reason, you are all I've been thinking about.I wanted to tell her these words and more, but from the corner of my eyes I saw her cross her arms with a soft sigh. I doubted she would appreciate them, instead, I leaned into the comfort of my chair and greeted her with my usual cocky smile.“Is that any way to talk to your brother, Ms Hayes?”“Stepbrother.” She quickly corrected, her lips quirking in annoyance, “What do you want, Rhysand? Did you call me here to annoy me?”For some reason, her

BridgetteI was supposed to have the day off. After weeks of constant work and striking deals, I was supposed to have a whole day off, a whole frigging twenty-four hours to lie in my bed if I liked, eating and drinking until it was time for my date–mixer. That was the one thing I was holding onto as I dragged myself out of bed for my shirt workout—until a call from the office shattered that dream.Apparently, someone had made a mistake in a signed contract, and because I was the one who handled the original file, I had to come in and fix it.Just great. Just what I needed on the one day I wanted not to think about work.Of course, Rhysand had to make it worse. He sat at his desk like Karma waiting for souls to torture, legs crossed, lips curved into a smug smirk, I once thought was cute. “You’ll have to redo the whole report,” he said. “From scratch.”I stared at him, my brows ticked in annoyance. “That’s unnecessary.”He shrugged, “It’s sloppy,” he said coldly. “We don’t do sloppy he

BrigetteThis wasn't looking good at all. I had to think of a way to curb this before It escalated any further. It wouldn't look good should this come up in a tabloid tomorrow, before Sandra could take her stage again, I stepped between them, my voice sharp and commanding.“Let’s go somewhere quieter,” I said, eyeing the both of them “This isn’t the place.”“Suit yourself,” Rhysand snorted at my words before heading towards the parking lot. I frowned, I had to put a stop to this before things got out of hand. But I didn't know how. Sandra followed, sniffing and limping slightly.”Did she hurt her leg? I didn't remember that in the medical bill. Just as we got deep enough, she started again reaching for Rhysand.“Rhysand please, I didn’t want things to end this way,” she said. “I’ve missed you, Rhys. I think about you all the time—”“Don’t,” he cut in sharply. “You've never thought about anyone but yourself. You are a fucking liar.”“I’m not lying,” she whispered, tears gathered in he

Bridgette The ride home was silent, but not uncomfortable. The tension from earlier had slowly been replaced by calm— the kind only gotten after a bout of long talks and deep thinking. Or maybe it was the music playing—the deep vocals of the long-dead icon, Elvis echoed through the car, and his whispers of forgotten love serenaded us through New York's terrible traffic. I couldn't help but think back to the memory, of what happened after the makeup, why have I said all that? Although we'd made up ’buried the hatchet’ according to him, I couldn't help but feel, this was far from over, like there was something more waiting to happen. My body tensed with anticipation. Although this wasn't the first time, he'd had a panic attack In front of me, this was the first time Rhysand had let his walls down, I could understand to an extent what made his head tick and it excited me. I glanced at him as I drove. The smooth hum of the engine was swallowed by the soothing words of the gale. T
