As I regained consciousness, Lovie’s laughter echoed through the room. I blinked my way back to reality, my eyes tracing the grin on her lips as she leaned against the wall. “Tsk. Tsk. Tsk.” she tsked, chuckling as she circled me. I tried to move but froze as I realized my hands were bound behind my back. Lovie crouched in front of me. “There is no point fighting the ropes, you failed. You’re a failure, Julia. Back then, and now.” She leaned over and turned on a tap. Wait what? It was then I glanced around, realizing I was lying in the bathtub, my hands and legs bound. I tried to speak but it came out muffled. My eyes widened as the tub filled up with water until I was almost drowning. Lovie walked, her wedding gown trailing after her as she closed the bathroom door. “You should have died three years ago.” Her words felt like a stab in the chest. “But you escaped and worse?” she gestured at me, “You ended up in Atlas, bed. Such good luck, as if I’d allow you to tak

My grip on the steering tightened as I sped down the road. I had only one destination in mind as the radio blared 90’s music. Young Ones’ Orphanage. The place where it all started. Where I grew up, got adopted, and where my children were currently stuck. The thought sent shivers down my spine. If all laces — of all dungeons, Lovie sent my kids to a battleground. “… sources are currently confirming the situation, but from reports, it is clear that the building has caught fire.” I raised an eyebrow at the radio and was about to change it when they continued. “This is the fourth outbreak at Young Ones Orphanage in—“ My foot hit the brakes and the car pulled to a halt. For a second, not even my heartbeat could be heard. There was… there was a fire? At the orphanage? Where do my babies live? No, no, no! I started the car again, this time, my hands shook and my breaths came out in heavy puffs. My vision as I accelerated. I had to get th

“Julia!” Lily’s voice broke the silence before Atlas could speak. I walked past him and crouched in front of her, grateful for the attention shift. “Hi, baby!” I said, wrapping my arms around her. “Leo and I wan’ show you something, up!” My nose scrunched up and I glanced at the ceiling. “Not there, silly!” she giggled. “Up! Up! Come!” She took my wrist before I could speak and I stumbled after the little girl. Despite her cheerfulness, my mind drifted back to Atlas. Had he heard us? Did he know about my suspicions? My hands tightened at my sides and I bit hard on my bottom lip. I didn’t want Atlas to know anything about the triplets and Leo, Louis, and Lily were my kids. I wanted to carry that secret to my grave. Yes, I would be the worst mother in the world but I just… I couldn’t. I couldn’t open the doors of my life to the same man who broke them down before. “Look! Don’t you like it?!” I snapped back to reality at Leo’s voice. My jaw hung loose as I took

"Wait, no, no— Don't take them, please!" I begged fighting against the cuffs. "Please, listen, I did not kidnap them, I—" "Julia, please calm down, I am going to get you out, I promise," Greta promised as a sob bubbled in my throat. The officers pushed me forward and I stumbled. Instead of the ground, I hit a warm, moving surface and large hands helped me up. "How dare you shove my wife?" I raised my head and we locked eyes. A tear rolled down my cheek as Atlas Volkan— for the first time in six years — wiped them away. The same man who used to hurt me, was … protecting me? "This woman kidnapped three children from Young Ones Orphanage. We've had search parties out for three days and —" "She didn't kidnap anyone." Atlas growled. "If you checked your files, you'll realise that a police report was submitted in Julia Volkan's name. If anything," He raised an eyebrow before narrowing his eyes at them. "You are the ones who need to be fired for harrasing my wife." "Mr.

“There it is!” I pointed at the jet and exited the car, racing for it. Atlas’ guards stepped in front of me and I froze. “Sir,” The head guard strolled past me to Atlas. “Getting entangled with the government is a bad idea.” my heart dropped and my eyes flickered to Atlas’ poker face. They were right there! They could leave at any moment! Was Atlas going to — “If you go inside that jet, you could lose your standing with the president and become an accessory to a crime and —“ “You are fired, William,” Atlas informed him. I forgot how to breathe for a second as I watched the exchanges “But, sir! I have been working with you for years!” “Exactly.” Atlas didn’t miss a beat. “Despite working with me for years, you stopped my wife without any reason. Walked past her like was furniture and then, proceeded to try and convince me to abandon her in the middle of nowhere.” Atlas stepped up, reaching out his hand. “Your gun.” “But sir—“ “Gun, Williams.” The man shot me a
