41: The War Continues

LuciaWe rode up with her telling Rhein all of his schedule after the press conference. He would hold that and then be in another meeting minutes after. It honestly seemed like he would be a busy man all day like he had said he would. Well, it didn't really matter. I was sure I could do well alone here. When we got to our floor, he went to his office first and I went to mine. I didn't want to follow him around like a puppy, I could do good alone. There was a laptop resting on my desk but there wasn't much else, almost as if I hadn't been given a job. That was a wrong because just then a knock fell on my door.“Come in" I called to whoever it was. I wondered if it was Beth. This would be her first day and it was disappointing that she hadn't arrived work yet.It wasn't. Instead of Beth, Jason walked in with two documents in his hand. “Good morning ma'am" he greeted with a smile.I managed to smile back, I didn't want to but it was the polite thing and of course, I had to be polite. “He

LuciaIt was Beth at the door. She walked in, a file in her hands but she didn't hand them to me. Instead she said, “There's someone here to see you. A John Deere" she said.I raised a brow in confusion. Who was that? I had never heard that name in all my years of living. It was strange but maybe this was part of the job.“Did he say why?" I asked her.She shook her head, “No ma'am, just that he's from another branch of this company and wants to talk to you. He gave me an ID.” She handed it to me.I read it and it was true, he was from another branch so maybe not so strange. He had come for business which I was relieved about.“Let him in" I told her and turned back to my laptop. She left, shutting the door behind and then after a while someone else knocked on the door. “Come in" I said to whoever was there.A man who I presumed to be John walked in. He was quite tall, dark and handsome, just a typical mine but his eyes were darker than anything else. There was something in them. Now

43: Cancelled

LuciaThe doctor prescribed the drugs I would need. I took some of them right there in the room but most were to be taken home. Since I didn't have any other complications I was released immediately.“If anything new happens and the bleeding lasts past two to three days then come see us or go to the hospital" the doctor told us as Beth and I walked away.I thanked him and we left the clinic. I was eager to get home and just take a nap. The day had done a total three sixty from anything I had expected.“How do you feel now ma'am?" Beth asked as we entered the elevator.I told her about the headache I was having but I was mostly fine. Some sleep and drugs and food of course would definitely fix me.We went back to the office. By the time we arrived John wasn't there anymore but Rhein sat on my sofa. When I walked in he stood up and came to me.He held my face softly and tenderly, in a way that made my heart race slightly. “So how do you feel now? Was the nose broken?" He asked. His voic

44: Hate?

LuciaHe looked angry now. Rhein kept looking at his phone and back at the dessert placed in front of us. I couldn't help but share the anger. It made me think if Charlie had planted him the whole time, waiting for a soft spot on Rhein or if he had just chosen randomly. I decided to say my thoughts out, “Do you think Charlie sent him? Maybe he hired him to do his work because he couldn't handle rejection?" I said.Rhein looked at me, he was thoughtful and I watched him think about it. After a while he shook his head, “I suspect him but I also suspect it isn't. This is too simple for him to do"I wanted to ask why but he explained it before I did, “He's too egoistical to want you gone like that. If he's going to do it, he's going to make sure I know it's him"I thought about it for a while and he was right. Charlie from the press conference and the engagement party was definitely proud. He would want that his works are at least known by who was affected. But to me that didn't rule ou

45: It had to be him

LuciaA few days has passed since the attack on me by John and nothing much had happened since then. We hadn't yet figured out for sure who had sent him.I still thought it was him. There was no way it wasn't Charlie. If there was no one else except Charlie, who could it be then? It had to be him.I had tried to see it from another angle, the one Rhein stubbornly insisted it wasn't him but hadn't noticed a thing. He insisted it wasn't Charlie but had zero idea who it could be.He still had John and had interrogated him severally. I knew the so called interrogation was torture. And if I knew well enough, there was no way to evade torture. So it was either John had no idea who had sent him just as he had claimed so many times or he was just very good at enduring pain.I had just come back from dinner and wanted to go to bed. It had been a stressful day. Work had gone on and on even though Rhein didn't want that.My nose had been healing just fine but the headaches hadn't stopped. I stil

46: Bidding Contract

LuciaI opened the door to let her in. She seemed to be brighter this morning, smiling when she saw me. “Good morning Lucia" she greeted.I nodded, satisfied that so far she had been keeping to what I had told her. She hadn't addressed me as her queen unless of course Rhein was there.I couldn't help asking again because now I was twice as worried. “How about Jenny? Isn't she back yet?"She shook her head, “She's still sick, recovering slowly and we expect that she'll be back in a few days or at least a week" she answered.Well, that was a good enough answer so I let it be. As far as she got better then nothing else mattered. We began the morning routine then. She arranged the room while heating the water up. I sat down to wait, using my phone as usual. Somehow the news of the attack hadn't reached the media.I was grateful for that. I knew they would be way more persistent if they had somehow found out. The stalking would be too excessive and I didn't want any of it.While I waited f

47: My Lady

LuciaTurns out they had been close friends of his father's from somewhere I hadn't been aware of. Both companies had decided to come together but it wasn't until now they wanted to work on it.“Why didn't they do it when your father was CEO and owner?" I asked. I was curious because to me it made more sense like that.Rhein shrugged as if he didn't know either. “I think maybe they just weren't ready. He's been in debt for a while and just decided to put in the money" he said.I nodded, that wasn't bad but definitely strange. I didn't know why but it did feel strange. I shrugged the feeling away and continued to ask him questions.“When do you think this project will be done? Do you think it'll take a long time?" I asked. He shook his head in the negative, “I don't plan on it taking that long. I want to launch it on our wedding day and like dad said, we have to talk about that soon"I felt my heart beat a little bit faster at that. I couldn't tell him I was the farthest from being rea

48: Dramatic

LuciaHe slid another file and when I read it, it was ours. I began to go through both files to see the difference and which was preferable. It all started from location, it would be in this kingdom and that was a slight loss to them, creating a quarter here with us. And then it went to cost of production, we bore much of that.I turned to look at Rhein and he looked at me. I wanted to talk and he must have seen that. He gave me a nod, indicating that I could speak.I faced Jeremiah, a polite smile on my face. “Mr Mills, I can understand where your team is coming from and at the same time, I can't”His face changed expressions, definitely not the one it had held before but a different one, as if he didn't appreciate me speaking to him. But he did anyway."Your company has to establish a place here which I understand would cost a lot but ours amend that by taking on the cost of production, I think it's fair play and on that ground you can't request higher” I wasn't done but he spoke."

49: Jeremiah Mills

LuciaI took a sip of water, clearing my throat and after taking a deep breath I began to tell him the dream. I told him everything I remembered.I told him from waking up feeling like someone was trying to break into the room, I wasn't wrong and so before they were inside, I went to hide somewhere.I hid in the wardrobe, watched this person move around the room and then stop. Then he turned around and opened the wardrobe door.Even as I told the story, I was very far from where it had happened but the fear was still there. I could feel my heart racing as I remembered it again. He stood in front of me, I couldn't see his face because there wasn't anything there but I told Rhein what the man had said. About the truth that I had no idea about.I knew the next thing that happened was a surprise, suddenly he was dead and on the floor, I never got to see the face of who killed him either.Suddenly I wasn't there anymore. I was in a while different house, I was in this huge room where there

50: Keep it together

LuciaFinally it seemed Rhein was done with what he had been doing. He called in his assistant who took what he had been working with before leaving. He came up to me smiling. “I'm sorry about the delay, beautiful, some urgent work had to be done first” he gave me his hand to take which I did. Then he took us to the lift and while we were on our way down to the garage he asked some questions about work. How it had been so far.“Has anybody been a trouble? Any unnecessary entry to your office?” He asked. He sounded concerned, he wasn't just asking for the sake of it.I shrugged, I didn't have much to say about it. Work had been what work usually is, stressful and hectic. I ended each day tired but somehow yearning for the next one.“Well, it's been good I guess. We've been busy, and nobody is being a trouble. It's all perfect actually” I told him and of course I had excepted the incident with John.We both know that had been unfortunate but strangely, so far we had not had any other is
