Kael's POVThe pack hospital smelled like antiseptic and sterile things, which did not cover up the coppery taste of Lyra's blood, which seemed to have burned itself into my senses. It smelled like my failure. I had promised to keep her safe, but now she was on a gurney, pale as the moon, and her life force was fading because of my son's poisonous pride.Alistair, the pack doctor, wiped his hands on a towel and let his shoulders droop in defeat. This made me feel even more cold and scared. "Alpha Kael, we've done everything we can to stabilize her, but the blood loss is serious. We don't have her blood type on hand. It's very, very rare. "We need to find a donor in the next few hours..." He didn't have to finish the sentence. The look in his eyes said it all.Hours. I only had a few hours left before the light in her eyes—the stormy, strong pools that had seen too much pain—went out for good. My wolf, which was always there in my chest, was howling and trying to break free of my contr

Lyra's Point of View It wasn't just that the world had tilted; it had been split in two. Lyra the Omega, the survivor, and the bartender wanted to crumple, scream until my voice gave out, and let the tidal wave of despair pull me under. But a newer, stronger being, Lyra the mother, was pushing that part aside without mercy. Someone had broken into her territory and stolen her cub. A cold, sharp rage was freezing the panic in my veins and turning it into a weapon. The medallion was no longer a warm, comforting weight on my skin. It was a live wire that hummed with power that felt like my own heartbeat sped up a thousand times. The green light that came from it wasn't just a glow; it was a scream—a scream of connection, of violation, of a bond that was about to break.

**Lyra's Point of View** The world turned into one terrifying point: that thin beam of corrupted red light, a spear of pure evil aimed at the center of my universe. There wasn't enough time to think, plan, or be afraid. There was only instinct, a basic need that took over all other functions in my body. *No. The denial wasn't a word; it was a force that came from deep inside me. It was the sum of all the sleepless nights, hungry days, and humiliating blows that had been taken for the sake of the small, perfect life that was now in the way of destruction. It was the strength of a love that had been tested by fire and had not only survived, but had become something that could never be broken. The medalli

**Lyra's point of view** It was a quiet, sad procession back to Mystic Hollows. Kenny slept fitfully in my arms, his little body jerking at every bump in the road. His dreams were probably full of red light and the smell of blood and ozone. I held him, and my body was a symphony of aches and a deep, soul-level tiredness that sleep could never fix. The medallion was quiet against my chest, its power banked, and it felt more like a lead weight than a source of strength. Kael drove, and his profile looked like a tense and controlled sculpture. One hand was firmly on the steering wheel, and the other was resting on my knee, putting pressure on me all the time. He was a strong man, but I could see the small cracks forming. It was getting to him: his son had betrayed him, he had almost lost his new child, and th

**Lyra's Point of View**The cold was not from this world. It didn't come in through the windows or whisper through the cracks in the doors. It grew from the middle of the room, a pocket of absolute zero that sucked the heat out of the air, our skin, and even our breath, which now hung in ghostly plumes in front of us. The flickering lights stuttered and went out, leaving us in a deep, unnatural darkness. The only light came from the faint, sickly green glow of my medallion and the dying embers in the fireplace.Kael moved before I could even think about it. He moved me behind him in one smooth motion, making his body a solid, unmovable wall between me and Selene's bed. His growl was a low, constant vibration in the quiet room, a primal challenge to this invasion of his space.Selene had said, "The warden comes." And it felt like it was already here. Not in body, but in spirit. A huge, patient, and completely foreign attention had turned to this ro
