SPADE“Is that fucker has nine lives or something?” Terzo growled beside me. “You should call the cops and make sure your man is alive.”“I didn’t see him today.” I picked up my phone and dialed his number. It only rang, but he never picked up. “Shit. Send two men to his house.” I told Linden the address, and he instantly worked on his phone.“Done.” Just as Linden confirmed it, Jacques left. “Yue, can you check if there are more suspicious money transfers from the Emergence account?”“Yes, sir. And I’m scanning the traffic cams, CCTV, anything with cameras for the face rec.”“Find his girlfriend, too,” Terzo said, giving the name and descriptions. Her driver’s license instantly popped up on the screen.Half an hour later, I couldn’t stand there anymore, waiting for the uncertainty.“I need some air.” I walked out of the situation room, breathing hard. I fished out my phone, about to call Denise, when I felt someone join me.“Hey. It’s gonna be okay.”I turned to face Terzo, shaking

ROBYNI woke up from like I’d been asleep for days with an excruciating pain in my abdomen, with the feeling like I was bloated. I wanted to fart so badly, but it wouldn’t come out.My lips were so dry, and I was so thirsty. When I first heard the beeping sound, the memory from the bookstore instantly flashed in my mind. I remembered looking at the blood on my hands, and then the intense pain registered quickly. That was the time I realized what had just happened before I collapsed, and Quinton was quick to catch me, put me on the floor, and call for help. And then he left. Before I passed out, his face was the thing I saw.I looked around, and it instantly brought back memories of me surrounded by flowers.“Mom?” She was reading the book I picked for her. Her eyes widened and met mine. “I don’t remember paying for that.”“Bean? Oh, my baby.” She dropped the book and came quickly to hug and kiss me. “How are you feeling? Are you in pain?” Before I could answer, she instantly presse

SPADEI fought the urge to watch the news or call Linden to confirm what Lex had just told me. I focused my time on watching him and made sure he was comfortable in bed until he fell back to sleep.I even put my phone on silent not to disturb him. He was my priority right now, though my heart was breaking not to see my wife and hear news about her progress. The door slightly opened, and Wave’s head emerged. “Mrs. Kolby has woken up. The doctors are checking her progress as we speak.”“How did you know?” My chest lightened a bit. I was too focused on Lex’s health, and I forgot about her safety, and called someone for updates. “I know you have a lot on your plate right now, but I asked Quinton to stay there for a while. He just called me.”“Glad one of us still thinks rationally.” I smiled tightly. “Thanks, Wave.”“No problem, sir. And her mother is staying with her as a patient’s watcher.” He’d also updated me about Denise’s condition and the doctor’s findings.“Keep Quinton there. I’

SPADEAfter losing in her thoughts, she finally said something which didn’t surprise me. “I want you to find her.”Linden and Terzo left an hour ago so that she could rest. Gio left with Piper so he could rest, too. I told Denise to go home and come back in the morning so that I could visit Lex. After she scolded me for ten minutes, she grew tired and left. “Why?”“Do you believe in love? That love is blind?”I leaned back and nodded. “In love? Yes. Love is blind?” I shook my head.“Then you can’t understand. Don’t get me wrong, I’m furious at her. I even hate her, but you’re the reason why she left the apartment—”“Okay, princess.” I looked at her. “First, I don’t think she would stay with you longer before I forced her to leave. She and Zilkov were getting cozy. They were in love, and she knew what kind of man he was. She knew what she got herself into.”I adjusted her bed when I felt she was pissed at me and tried to lie down. “Do you need anything?”“Maybe some peace?” She glare

SPADE“What are you doing here?” Lex asked.“You can’t get rid of me after adopting me. Just like a kitten. You can’t save a kitten while throwing away the old one you have.” I chuckled even though life had been hard lately. Robyn chose to stay with her mother instead of going home with me. I took it positively, even if my heart couldn’t. Maybe she would heal fast, physically and emotionally, with Denise by her side.Of course, she wouldn’t be there alone. I hired a private nurse and made sure someone was taking care of her while her mom was at work. She was my wife, and I would always prioritize her. Lex looked confused. Yes, he got released a day after Robyn got home. I waved my hand as I took a seat beside him. “Forget what I said.”“Have you been to Robyn? How’s she?”I saw her every day before and after work, but she would kick me out before midnight as if it were time for me to turn into a mouse. “Stubborn, but she’s doing great. What about you?”He ignored me and grabbed a
