Maeve“I don’t know his reason for going behind your back, but it didn’t sit right with me, so I called to let you know.”I could barely register the words Janelle said to me, but I nodded.“He hasn’t even called me. I thought he was busy at work.”I voiced out the words that kept replaying in my head. Did he really think I would be against him helping her?I am not that heartless. I won’t feel the way I was feeling now if he had just told me.“Again, I know it’s not in my place to tell you, and you might think I am being nosy, but I couldn’t just let it slide knowing the kind of history you have with him.”Janelle told me.“Is she still in critical condition?”I asked Janelle, who asked Fabien.“No, she is stable but has to stay at the hospital for at least a week.”Wow. Does that mean Andro plans to stay with her for the whole week?“Thank you for telling me, Janelle.”I told her and hung up. I tried to be empathic towards Violet. If everything Janelle told me was true, then she alm

Alessandro“Why won’t she listen to me?”I asked myself as I paced around trying to figure out what to do next. She told me not to call her brother again, and her brother told me she was going to her room to get her phone, but I still couldn’t reach her.She told me she blocked me.I don’t know how she found out what I have been up to, but I know she did, and now she's mad at me.I can’t have her be mad at me.I didn’t realize she called me so many times because I wasn’t with my phone. I shouldn’t have stayed a whole day without trying to call her.I couldn’t find my phone, and when I finally found it, I saw so many missed calls.“Are you okay? You can leave if you want.” I turned to Marian, who was watching me closely. I shook my head.I can’t leave her on her own. That bastard somehow found out she was at the hospital and came to look for her.If I had left her on her own, he would have gotten to her, and who knows what would have happened. He ran off as soon as he saw that I was w

Maeve“Maeve?”I startled awake at the sound of a voice outside my door calling out my name.I must have fallen asleep because I didn’t get much sleep last night.I got out of bed and walked to my door.“Theo? You are back?”I asked and rubbed my eyes.“Yes,”I let him into my room and took the package he held from him.“Thank you for this.”I told him and went to sit down. I pulled out the chocolate-filled croissant that has been my favorite since the first time Theo had gotten it for me.I sighed deeply when I took a bit of the heavenly goodness and savored it.For the first time since yesterday, something made me happy.“Alessandro called me and told me what happened.”Theo just had to speak and ruin the good vibe. I stopped eating mid-bite and dropped the croissant.“You could have at least waited until I finished one of these to ruin my mood.”I let out.“Eve—“I lifted my hand to stop him.“Don’t try to plead his case. You don’t know what he did, and honestly, I don’t even want

Maeve “If she had stayed a little longer at Nonno’s home, she would have had a better chance at getting the help she needed. She did terrible things but she is not a totally lost cause.” Andro told me. “She was abandoned as a kid, adopted, and then abandoned again. She was abused and never loved. She thought that bastard loved him because he was the first person who told her they loved her. She is broken, Eve and if I don’t do something, I won’t be able to live with myself.” I swallowed at his words and didn’t try to move away when he got closer. “I know I was dead wrong for going behind your back, Eve but I couldn’t watch her walk away and I am glad I didn’t just look the other way because if I had, she would have died.” I am human and I have empathy and yes, I am glad he saved her but that doesn’t undo what he did. “Good for you, and good for her. Honestly, you did well but that doesn’t excuse what you did to me! Don’t worry, you are not alone, I am not just mad at you

Maeve“I am not you, Maeve, if I can call you that.”I nodded.“You can call me that, and I know you are not me, but you endured too much. You were so blinded.”I told her. I wasn’t about to sugarcoat anything.“I know that, and I agree. I was really blinded. I thought now that you aren’t in the picture, I can be his main woman. I talked myself into believing that he loved me and only went to those other women for sex. I told myself that as long as he always comes back to me.”I couldn’t imagine living like that.“Were you happy living like that?”I asked her.“I have never been happy, Maeve. I don’t know what real happiness is, so when I got an illusion of one, I thought that was it, and that’s why I didn’t want to lose that. Almost dying made me rethink my life, and I realized how pathetic I had lived.”I nodded.“I am glad you realized that, and I am happy that you have admitted it to yourself. I hope you don’t go back to him.”I told her, and I meant it. I really don’t want her to
