My name was Aria Scarlett. That day marked the most important medical assessment of my life. If I passed, I would be accepted into the patrol squad of my dreams after graduating from the werewolf academy. When I rushed to the health center located in the heart of our pack grounds, the lobby was empty. Only a he-wolf dressed in a silver-colored-trimmed white robe stood by the moonstone window. His powerful, crushing presence seemed to still the air. He carried the scent of winter, filling the air with a crisp, icy, and wild rosemary scent."I'm here for my assessment, Doctor," I said, tightening my grip on the assessment scroll. My voice was tense with instinctive respect. The Doctor turned and studied me with his amber eyes. "We would have closed if you'd arrived a minute later. You know the rule. Being late is considered a forfeit.""My apologies, Doctor."I offered no excuse for my mistake and simply lowered my head in apology. From the corner of my eye, I caught the name on

With a soft click, the leather straps binding my limbs were removed.Freed from restraint, I slumped in the assessment chair and felt so weak I could barely open my eyes. I clutched the blanket draped over my body. Its thin fabric outlined the humiliating curves of my body. Shame pressed heavily against my chest, and I turned my head away to avoid Kael's gaze.He said nothing. After a brief silence, I heard the soft rustle of fabric. Kael picked up my discarded gray robe and linen petticoat from the floor and walked up to me. Then, he reached out with the same hands that had just violated me.I snarled at him, but he ignored my warning growl and began dressing me, fastening the buttons one by one. His movements were steady and meticulous; there was nothing overtly intimate in them.It felt purely procedural, like he was restoring a tool to its former state. Every now and then, his cool fingertips brushed against my collarbone or the side of my neck.I stayed rigid and let him

I paced outside the gates of the health center for a while before finally gathering the resolve to face Kael."You look like you didn't have a good night's sleep."Kael, the culprit behind my sleepless night, sat across from me and slid a cup of hazelnut coffee my way."No, thank you," I said, wanting to get this over with quickly. "Could we please discuss my medical assessment report, Dr. Goliath? It's really important to me.""Were you injured before?" he asked."Yes.""How did it happen?"I shook my head in response. I had no recollection of what had happened. "If there's nothing else, I'll get going now."I didn't want to talk about it, but Kael was oddly fixated on that past injury and grabbed my wrist."Please let go—"Suddenly, there was a knock at the door followed by a young woman's voice. "Dr. Goliath, are you available now?"I pulled free from his grip and hid behind a nearby curtain. "Yes," Kael replied. "How may I help you?"Peering through the gap in the cur

At the hospital, Mom sat hunched on a bench and cried soundlessly.I wrapped my arms around her trembling shoulders and looked at Dad lying in the hospital bed. "I'm here, Mom," I whispered.Late that night, I hid under the covers and calculated our family's future expenses, which included our daily living costs, Dad's medical bills, and the money needed to reconstruct the store. The figures were staggering. The patrol squad would officially take me in next month. That meant I only had a few days of freedom left, and within this limited time, I had to find a way to earn as much money as possible.Through Lily, I found a morning shift gig at a restaurant. On my third day, Mason's friend, Ricky Murray, barged into the restaurant I worked at with several he-wolves in tow. He crashed into me on purpose and knocked over the bowl of hot soup I was carrying."Well, isn't this Aria Scarlett?" Ricky and his lackeys surrounded me and put on a fake act. "How careless of you to spill the
