The high-frequency sound waves kept vibrating inside my head, filling me with fear and agony. I couldn’t hear anything around me, even though I screamed until my throat turned hoarse.Outside the room, it was empty and silent. There was no response at all.I tried to take off the headphones that were clamped tightly around my head. However, Mom had installed an anti-slip locking device on them. No matter how I struggled, I couldn’t remove them.I was in so much pain. The sharp, piercing noise wouldn’t go away, no matter how I shook my head. Soon, a headache set in, and anxiety rose uncontrollably, as if someone was gripping my throat tightly.I began to lose the ability to breathe. My heartbeat gradually sped up, and my whole body lost its balance.Meanwhile, outside, Mom and Dad had already taken my little brother, Liam, who kept crying about the pain, to the hospital to have his heart checked. No one responded to my cries for help.Because of my screaming and crying, my ruptu

Now Mr. Thompson leaned his head in from the doorway, peeking inside with a look of undisguised gloating as he asked what had happened.“That damn girl doesn’t know what’s good for her! First, she deliberately bullied Liam. Then, when we came back, and Liam took the initiative to talk to her, she started putting on airs!“Thompson, looks like I wronged you before. That wretched girl is just shameless by nature. Born bad!”“Heh, kids make things up all the time. You really need to discipline her properly.”“Yeah… shameless, born bad! I told you my dad isn’t like that!” Mandy lifted her chin proudly beside him, repeating the adults’ words.‘No! That’s not true! Mom, he bullied me!‘Mom, I didn’t lie. What he did was really strange!‘Why did you defend me before, but now apologize to him?‘Mom, I really didn’t lie!’I spun anxiously in midair.Mr. Thompson continued with a righteous expression, “When a child starts lying young, that’s no small matter. It’ll only worsen if you do

The rats in the storage room were startled by the sudden sound of the door opening and scattered. When Mom saw the rats run out, she jumped. Then a relieved smile slowly appeared on her face.“I told you, Ellie must be fine. She has hands and feet. Maybe she went to the bookstore today.“She’s terrified of rats. There’s no way she would still be in the storage room.“She must have run off already. Hahaha…”She let out a long breath and patted her chest.“Thank God… thank God…”Dad seemed to be pulled back to reality by her words. He had always obeyed Mom without question, but at that moment, it was as if he had become a different person. He grabbed Mom by the collar, dragged her up from the floor, and shoved her straight into the storage room.“Look! Look at what you’ve done!”Dad lost all his strength and collapsed onto the ground. He pounded his chest, tugged at his hair, and muttered with his head lowered.“Our child… Ellie… such a lovely child…”After a brief moment o

“That’s my daughter. Don’t clean her away. Otherwise, she won’t be able to find her way back!”Even though the room reeked horribly, Mom breathed it in as if it were a fragrance.“This is my daughter’s scent. Don’t you dare erase it!“And as for you filthy rats, I’m going to settle this with you. How dare you bully my daughter!”With a vicious look, Mom began grabbing the rats with her bare hands. She lunged at them like a starving wolf, as if facing a mortal enemy. Soon, the rats were all gone.My heart ached as I tried to touch the wounds on her hands where chunks of flesh had been bitten off.I screamed, “Mom, please stop hurting yourself. I’m begging you.”However, it was useless. Then the police came again.“The investigation results are out, ma’am. After DNA comparison, this body is indeed your daughter, Ellie.”The officer stated the fact in an almost emotionless tone.Even though Mom had already prepared herself mentally, when faced with the final confirmation, she s
