Erin’s pov“You look different,” Julie said, studying my face.I caressed her face with a fake smile on my face.“It’s just work. The new case is becoming a thorn in my flesh,” I lied smoothly.Julie smiled sympathetically, placing a soft kiss on my lips.“Sometimes, i think you’re too hard on yourself. If a case isn’t good for your mental health then you should drop it,” she saidMy eyes burned holes into her skin. “If every lawyer in the world did that, then the innocent would never get any justice,” I replied.Julie didn’t look impressed by my reply but said nothing either.“Right. The whole honor thing. Anyways, how about you take a break from the case. At least until our wedding is over,” she requested.I groaned inwardly.Like hell I was going to just let her walk. Not with the case I was building was against her. “I’ll work on it,” I replied vaguely.“No, Erin. That’s not enough. I won’t let you embarrass me, especially with Zach and Ari around. You proposed to me, so be a go

Lisa’s povMy eyes widened at Julie’s words. “Sister? Erin has a sister?” I asked aloud.“Yea, he does and I call him Bruce. They act like catty sisters,” Julie replied.I stifled a laugh but Erin wasn’t amused.“Why is she here?”Erin gritted out.“Why else, honey? she wants your permission to take your beautiful step-daughter out,” Julie replied with a sly smile.Erin kissed his teeth before brushing past me.Julie followed behind him but I stood, still in shock.I was livid and processing the audacity Bruce had.And my mother acting it was funny was appalling.I wasn’t a child but a full grown adult who could decide for herself and Erin becoming my step-father didn’t automatically make him my father. When I was sure I wasn’t going to rip Bruce's head off, I joined the chaos in the living room. But when I arrived, there was no chaos.Instead Julie was seated with Ari with Bruce and Erin missing.“Where is Erin?” I asked, aloud.“Talking with Bruce,” Julie replied dismissively. It wa

Lisa’s povMy hands flew to my ears as the bullets tore through pots, cups, vases, kitchen cabinets. It was pure chaos with my heart pounding loud in my chest that I was convinced of having a heart attack soon. The bullets eventually stopped coming through but I didn’t get up and neither did Erin.He had his body over mine protectively while actively texting someone, no doubt for help.“Are you okay?” Erin asked.I wasn’t sure how to answer so I nodded my head slowly. We laid still on the ground till the police arrived with many patrol cars. And only when the officers helped Erin and I up did I notice he had taken a bullet in his arm.“Oh my God! Erin, you’re bleeding!” I exclaimed.Erin looked at his arm calmly as a medic rushed to get us out of my destroyed home.I couldn’t stop the tears from spilling freely from my eyes as I took in the state of what I once called home. This was meant to be my safe space and now I felt very unsafe just standing in what was left of it.Erin was ru

Julie’s pov“Have you lost your mind?! You almost killed Lisa in the process!” I yelled out.I was not just angry but irritated at the lengths the monster before me would go to prove a point. He gave a dark, smug smile.“The only one who has tried to harm Lisa has been you,” he replied.“That’s nonsense. I wasn’t going to harm her but scare her,” I defended.“And I was going to do the same to your little boyfriend,” “By putting a bullet in him?! You’re not even remorseful,” I spat at him.Everyday that passes, I regret the day I decided to go along with his sick plan. He’s busy living his life freely while I and Bruce get to do the dirty work. “You had no right to have Erin follow,” I continued but the bastard didn’t seem to care.He simply shrugged his shoulders in arrogance.“You should be more concerned why your husband to be is visiting your daughter at such ungodly hour,”“Don’t try to change the subject. You son of a bit…”I didn’t finish my words before he crossed over the ro

Erin’s pov I wasn’t built for this life. The one that needed me to sit in a place for hours. Courtesy of my wife-to-be Julie. “Baby, what do you think of this song as my entrance song?” Julie asked excitedly as she tapped on her screen, playing the torture of a song loudly. The woman was harder than a nut and more evil than the serpent itself. Since I wouldn’t listen to her, she had judge Evelyn enforce her words with a “mandatory bed rest order”. What the fuck did that even mean? I was surely going to enjoy watching them cuff that corrupt judge once all this over. “So, what do you think?” Julie asked once the song was over. Honestly, I hated the song and everything about how my life had turned out. I gave a smile. “It’s your entrance song. Whatever the bride wants,” I replied. Julie gave a rueful smile. “I know that but at the same time, I don’t want to pick just anything and end up hating it on that day. So, do you think I should use this?” I sighed heav
