Night had always been Dr. Elias' favorite time to work. The Medical Wing was quiet. No hurried footsteps echoed through the corridors. No anxious hunters lined the examination rooms waiting for treatment. Only the soft glow of oil lanterns illuminated rows of instruments polished so carefully they reflected the light like still water.Elias stood alone before a wooden table scattered with reports. Not injuries. Not patrol logs. Blood. One sheet after another. Each bearing the same name.Lieutenant Sera Ward.He adjusted his glasses and read the latest report for what had to be the twentieth time. The numbers refused to change."The mutation appears... then vanishes."He whispered the words as if speaking them aloud might reveal the answer."No infection behaves like this."His fingers drifted across faded notes written years earlier in another doctor's handwriting. Those pages were older than Sera herself. Older than many of the hunters serving Zelios.Yet the patterns. They were begi

The corridors of Zelios were silent. Most of the fortress slept after the long patrol. The only sounds were the distant hum of generators buried deep within the mountain and the occasional footsteps of a lone guard changing shifts. Sera closed her room door gently behind her. For several long seconds she simply stood there, listening. No footsteps. No knock. No one had followed her. Only then did she kneel beside her bed. Reaching beneath the wooden frame, she slid out the weathered satchel she had hidden there earlier. Dust clung to its surface. Inside lay the files she had risked everything to steal. Project Crimson Hunger. Subject H-01. Crimson Blood. She stared at them. The papers felt heavier than they should. It wasn't their weight. It was what they contained. If Elias discovered they were missing, the entire Medical Wing would already be searching. If Commander Aldren learned she had taken them. She didn't finish the thought. Slowly, she untied the leather cord around th

The room was silent. Only the faint hum of Zelios' electrical lights broke the stillness. Sera stood motionless before her desk, her eyes resting on the scattered files she had spent hours reading. Reports lay open one over another, their yellowed pages filled with decades of observations, failed experiments, blood analyses, and names that should have remained buried. Project Crimson Hunger. Crimson Blood. Subject H-01. Husen. She slowly reached for the final report and closed it. The soft thud echoed through the room. For several long moments, she simply stared at the worn cover. "So... that's all." Her voice barely rose above a whisper. Everything she had risked to learn. Everything she believed the files would reveal. It wasn't enough. The reports explained procedures. Blood samples Laboratory observations. Attempts to suppress mutations. Failed memory experiments. Medical terminology stretched across page after page. But they never answered the questions that mattered. Wha

The ruins welcomed no one. They simply endured. Broken highways stretched across the dead landscape like the ribs of some forgotten beast. Cracked buildings leaned against one another, their broken windows reflecting the last traces of sunset. Steel skeletons of old towers pierced the darkening sky while vines and moss slowly reclaimed the remains of civilization.Sera moved alone. Her boots landed soundlessly across fractured concrete, years of hunter training guiding every step. She stayed away from open streets, choosing rooftops, collapsed walls, and narrow alleyways where shadows concealed her movements. She knew Zelios would discover her absence by now.Commander Aldren would already have questioned the guards. Dr. Elias would have found the files and her letter. A pang of guilt tightened in her chest. "I'm sorry..." The words escaped into the empty ruins. She wasn't sorry for leaving. Only for the worry she knew she had caused. Her fingers brushed the handle of one of her silv

Far from Zelios. Far beyond the ruined cities where Wilds roamed and hunters bled. Another civilization stirred beneath the first light of morning. Unlike Zelios, there were no patrol sirens. No defensive walls scarred by claws. No bloodstained training grounds. Wide stone streets stretched between elegant buildings lined with flowering trees. Electric lamps illuminated quiet walkways, while children laughed in distant courtyards, unaware of the monsters that ruled the world beyond their borders. To them. The apocalypse was a story. To those who governed this place. It was a memory they refused to repeat. At the heart of the settlement stood the Council Citadel. Its towering white walls overlooked the entire city, its architecture untouched by war. Marble columns rose toward a vaulted ceiling where intricate murals depicted humanity's rise, its fall, and the solemn vow to preserve what remained.Few were permitted inside. Fewer still reached its deepest level. Beneath the Citadel. A p
