Chapter 1

Jasmine ~

As usual, some of my employees were in my office. "Make sure the memo is sent to all of our branches across the state, is that clear?".

"Yes, ma’am."

"Good. Now wander off." They departed right away.

I kept falling in love again with my husband as I gazed at my wedding ring; he is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and I feel fortunate that we are now married.

Despite the fact that I have the option of choosing not to work due to my status, I genuinely enjoy my job and don't enjoy being idle. I may be bad at some things, but when it comes to working professionally, I don't want anybody else to do the work for me.

The huge bed will be empty without Warren there to keep it warm, so maybe I'll stay up late tonight. He's out of the country and I miss him.

The door to my office was opened by a cleaner before I realized it was almost 8 o'clock. He's still here, why? After six o'clock, a cleaner is meant to be off duty.

“Excuse me ma'am, I know you haven't left the building and you have been working hard, so I thought of getting you a cup of coffee," he said as he approached me with a smile on his face.

“What is your name?”

“I'm Carlos, ma'am.” He grinned.

I sprang to my feet and violently slammed the table, grabbing his coffee cup, throwing it on the floor and yelling, "How dare you! Have you lost track of who I am? Never in your life bring your abhorrent self to me if you aren't here to perform your duties; leave my presence right away, you useless scumbag.”

“I'm really sorry, ma'am. Please allow me to clean up the area where the coffee cup was ruined, I will go get my cleaning equipment.”

"Sorry for yourself, you ignorant lowlife, do that right away and get lost." He is really annoying, how dare a simple cleaner bring me a cup of coffee? Has he forgotten that I am the daughter of the governor? He is lucky that I'm in a good mood or else, I would have made his night miserable.

He just disgusted me so much when he returned with the cleaning supplies to clean the place.

I eagerly answered the phone when my father's personal assistant called; perhaps he has something special for me as usual; what will I wear? I'll contact my fashion designer after the call to receive the most recent collection.

“Good day, Mrs. Jasmine.”

“Why don't you get right to the point, Maxwell? What message does my father have for me?”

"Ma'am, there is no message." His reply infuriated me.

"Are you stupid? You call me for your own selfish gain, how dare you! Do you want to lose your job?”

“I'm sorry ma'am, but it's not for my own benefit; I have some unfavorable news to share with you.”

Unfavorable news! What presumably transpired?

“You idiot, just say it.”He will probably be shivering right now where he is because I yelled while slamming the table.

“The governor, your father, has passed away.”

“What?” My entire body was in shock as a result of the news I just heard. My father can't be dead,that's not possible.

“I am very sorry ma'am.“

“You bastard, how dare you joke with me with such words? I wish to speak to my father, give him the phone.“ I yelled with tears rolling down my eyes to my cheek.

“I dare not make such expensive jokes with you,his death was diagnosed as a result of poison,the people haven't heard the news yet so I.“ I hung up immediately without letting him finish his statement.

My father can't be dead,this must be a dream,I slapped my cheek,pinched myself to wake up from this heartbreaking news.

“NO!!!!“ I screamed falling to the ground in my office,I could no longer take it as I burst into serious tears,“My father can't be dead,I just got married and it is not yet up to a month,who did this to me? Who poisoned my father?“

I suddenly felt a hand of comfort around me,it was the cleaner,now I don't feel disgust around him,I needed to cry on someone's shoulder.

“He is not dead right?“ I asked him while still wailing.

“You need to stay strong for your father ma'am,put yourself together.“

“I don't want that,I want to join my father,I need to get rid of myself,what's the point of me living?“

He hugged me tight without saying a word to me,I cried on his chest and he kept tapping my back humming a song to my hearing to calm my spirit.

I could see my father smiling at me and I was trying to reach him as well,this is what the glance I got from my father,he is truly gone.

After some hours,I was too weak to drive,if I dare I will end up in an accident. I hate having a driver or moving with bodyguards but now I really need a driver.

I requested if Carlos could take me home and he accepted without any dialogue.

In the car,I called my husband Warren,“Honey,my dad is dead.“

“Sorry about that,later love,this is important for me.“

“I just told you my father is dead.“ I said again.

“Death is a normal thing,at least you will be alive to bury him,I will call you back soon my wife, bye, don't cry much.“

I can't believe such words came out from my husband.

I got to my husband's house and the cleaner asked,“Is there anything else I can do for you ma'am before I take my leave?“

“You have absolutely nothing to do for me, security take him out of my house." I didn't even let him say anything else when he was sent out by the security in the compound.
