Which Best Kindle Covers Paperwhite Have Auto Wake/Sleep?

My Paperwhite's case is worn out and I'm shopping for a new Kindle cover that supports the auto-wake/sleep feature without breaking the bank. Any standouts?

For auto wake/sleep you will want to look for an official Amazon leather or fabric cover designed for and matching your Paperwhite. Third-party cases can vary greatly and typically you will need to check the product description to confirm that it supports auto wake/sleep. On a completely different note, I have been using my new Kindle to read the following stories on my commutes. ‘Wet Dreams: The Ultimate Steamy Short Stories Collection’ is made up of complete short stories. Each one is a quick, complete read that can be picked up and put down as needed. The stories are bite-sized which makes them the perfect type of content for a Kindle with auto-sleep support, honestly.

I reviewed a number of Kindle Paperwhite cases with auto wake/sleep functionality. The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition has a premium fabric cover that looks great and functions well. The cover is made with strong magnets and has flawless auto wake/sleep function.

An alternative version, the Ayotu Case for Kindle Paperwhite, is very lightweight and feels soft to touch, with a pleasant texture. Although the magnet isn’t quite as strong as Kindle’s own covers, the auto wake/sleep function works consistently. The MoKo Case for Kindle Paperwhite is another option, with a built-in kickstand that’s perfect for reading in your hands – it’s sturdily made to hold your Kindle in place at just the right angle.

I’ve also found some lovely, handmade cases on Etsy that offer auto wake/sleep functionality. Note though, that each cover is unique and some have better magnet alignment than others, so it’s worth reading the reviews before purchasing. Auto wake/sleep is an essential feature for Kindle owners and it’s worth paying for a good quality cover that will last.

So I am a bit of a geek when it comes to my e-readers, and I have really looked into how the cover auto wake/sleep feature works on Kindle Paperwhite covers for the 10th and 11th Gen models. The 11th Gen actually has better magnet alignment, but both generations of covers support the auto wake/sleep feature.

I personally prefer the KuRoKo Slim Case as it is cost effective and auto feature is 100% functioning. If you want to add some extra protection to the book then you can take a look at the Tomtoc Case as well which has great protection and auto feature functioning as well.

If you like a folio style case, the Omoton Case is a decent middle ground between cost and functionality. Avoid the cheapest covers as the magnets can fail within a short space of time. Go for reputable brands and read the reviews to ensure that the cover functions as intended.

The auto wake/sleep feature is a great one. My Kindle Paperwhite 11th Generation has this feature, which works great. The cover wakes up the Kindle when you open the cover and puts it to sleep when you close the cover. I personally love the official Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Leather Cover. It’s very sleek, durable, and the magnet is aligned perfectly. Other third-party options, like the Fintie Slimshell Case, can also work well. However, there’s just something about the official Amazon covers that makes them feel more premium. The auto wake/sleep feature is really convenient for reading and also helps to conserve battery life. Amazon’s official covers are the way to go if you want reliability.

If you have a very specific style that you’re after (such as steampunk or a fantasy theme), you may find covers and skins on websites like Redbubble or Society6 by artists who sell their work on those sites. Note, however, that many of these artists work with case manufacturers who provide the basic form of the case. So you need to check the very fine print of the product description to see if that particular case has an auto wake/sleep magnet installed. Some do. Some don’t. It can be a bit of a gamble, but if you find something you really like, it’s worth the extra time to find a functional version of it.

Do covers for Fire HD 8 support auto-wake?

5 Answers2025-07-28
For Fire HD 8 cases, auto-wake is not a universal feature. The official case for Fire HD 8 works every time, but third-party cases do not. You can find cases for under $15 that do not have auto-wake. If you need it to work every time, it is worth paying a little more for. But most features for cases are unnecessary and get in the way of design. So I recommend to get a case that has the features you need and then forget about it. Unless you like to press the wake up button manually.
