Library samples aren’t always long enough to get a proper feel for a really long book. Waiting lists for books in libraries can be very long. But. That industry that brings you these novels is fragile. Every lost sale is a loss for all of us. Perhaps wait for a sale and set aside a little each week for your novels. It’s not too hard to budget for them and the delay of a few days to purchase a novel will be worth it for the better experience you’ll have with the novel. And that is what you want.
