Let's be real, a lot of the expansion is just shipping fuel. The mythology provides a pretext for characters to be psychically linked, share dreams across time, or be bound by ancient soulmate rituals ('shenu' bonds or whatever). Marc and Steven might be explored as two halves of a soul split in a past life under a god's curse. While this can be fluffy, it can also be deeply tragic and mythically rich. It uses the expansion to explore intimacy and connection in a context where identity itself is fragile and divine forces are constantly pulling at the threads. The mythology becomes a language for talking about love, trauma, and belonging.

The most common expansion I see is around the Ennead. The show introduced them, but fanfiction runs wild with it. Stories imagine full councils, internal politics, ancient betrayals, and treaties between the gods that Marc knows nothing about. In some fics, Khonshu is a black sheep not just for his methods, but for a foundational schism with the other gods millennia ago. Others explore the human avatars of other Ennead members—what if there was a hidden avatar of Hathor or Tefnut running around, and their paths cross with Marc's? This creates a whole hidden world of god-touched humans, each with different missions and moral codes, which is a goldmine for conflict and team-ups. It expands the universe far beyond the lonely struggle the canon often presents.

A more personal expansion: using mythology to explore Marc's Jewish heritage. How does a man with one faith (Judaism) serve a god from another pantheon? Does his soul face two judgments? I've seen profound fics that grapple with this, where Marc seeks counsel from a rabbi or has visions that blend Sinai and the Duat. It doesn't expand Egyptian myth per se, but places it in a dialogic tension with another rich tradition. This exploration adds incredible depth to Marc's character, showing the conflict not just in his mind, but in his soul, caught between two powerful cosmological narratives. It's some of the most sophisticated fan work out there.

Family drama, but with gods. The Ennead is a dysfunctional family. Osiris is the weary patriarch, Isis the meddling peacemaker, Set the rebellious troublemaker, and Khonshu the estranged, bitter uncle no one invites to gatherings. Fanfiction expands the mythology by playing this literally. Council meetings are family dinners with millennia-old grudges. Marc gets dragged into this as Khonshu's plus-one, the awkward human at the godly table. This expansion works because it humanizes (in a way) the vast, impersonal forces. Their conflicts become relatable—sibling rivalry, parental neglect, legacy issues—but on a scale that can shake realities. It's a great source of both humor and pathos.

Kas Mason isn't just a werewolf. She's also a Goddess. One of the Moon Goddess' fifty daughters known as the Menae. After Kas dies from starvation in the dungeon of her own packhouse, at the order of her mate, Bronx, the Moon Goddess gives her a second chance at life.
When Bronx, children of her friends, and children of the ranked members of the pack suddenly go missing, it's up to Kas to accept her heritage and fight for the ones she loves the most to bring them home, even if it costs her life.
Note from the author: This is the third book in The Blood River Series. I recommend reading Forever in the Future and Forever in the Past AND Daughters of the Moon Goddess before starting this book.
“You shouldn’t be here,” Lucien growled as he pinned my wrist against the stone pillar. His breath was hot, and I could see the storm brewing behind his eyes.

A Queen betrayed
A warrior sworn to protect her
A mate obsessed with getting her back
A kingdom on the edge of war
Framed for a crime I didn’t commit, I was dragged in chains, tortured, and left to die by the very man who once held me like I was his only reason to live.
Rescued by a mysterious warrior with ties to the old gods, I return, four years later, as the Moon Goddess’ heir and his worst nightmare. Holding a secret that could change everything, his twins. As war brews, the Moon Goddess herself watches from above and I must make a choice.
The mate who broke me…
Or the warrior who built me back up?
One will fight for me.
One will destroy everything to possess me.
As rival lovers clash, ancient secrets unravel. The world must bow, because a Queen never forgets.
The untold story of the slave, humiliated and rejected by her mate, who discovers she is descended from the moon goddess...
"My eyes widened uncontrollably. I wanted to take a closer look at the situation to determine if it was just a coincidence or not. But what happened next really surprised me. The young werewolf attacked Orchid with great effort, but almost all of his attacks were easily dodged by Orchid.
This kind of clever dodging skill should not appear on a weak slave at all.
"Krew, our Mate is not as useless as you think."
My wolf reminded me in my mind.
Watching her dodging skills, my heart wavered and I could not even help but start to appreciate her.
Maybe she was not so weak?"
After discovering her boyfriend cheated on her with her best friend, Maritza travels to Egypt alone, hoping to leave her broken heart behind.
But one unexpected accident changes everything.
A single drop of her blood awakens an ancient prophecy, sending her three thousand years into the past—where she is mistaken for a witch and hunted by those who fear her.
Only one man recognizes the truth.
Pharaoh Kharef, the most feared ruler of Ancient Egypt.
As palace conspiracies, forbidden magic, and forgotten gods begin to stir, Maritza must find a way back to her own time... or risk becoming the queen history was never meant to remember.
Some destinies are written in the stars.
Hers was written in blood.
For three months, the same steamy dream has haunted my nights.
There's always a tall, faceless man.
Every time, he kisses every inch of me. Heat pools in my belly, making me tremble until I shatter.
I always wake up gasping, heart pounding. Staring at the damp sheets, I'd pathetically tell myself I was just touch-starved. Craving release.
But last night, he spoke.
His voice was deep, thick with desire. "I wish I could hold you for real. Be inside you. My little star. Let's meet. In the Eternal City. Please?"
I froze.
He's in the Eternal City? He's real?!
I wanted to ask how to find him, but the dream shifted. Suddenly, I was seeing through his eyes.
I saw him leaning against a lavish bed, his right hand sliding down to grip his hard length.
My pulse raced.
Then, I saw it. Carved into the bedpost was a pomegranate crest.
My heart stopped.
The Night House. The absolute rulers of the Eternal City. Descendants of the Underworld God. Mortals didn't cross them.
And me? I was just a newly appointed court astrologer working for them. I couldn't afford to offend a single one of them.
For many years the werewolves have been suffering from the wrath of the evil hybrid queen, a vampire and a witch. The werewolves are at the risk of extinction as most have met with capital punishment for several minor offences.
The Alpha King is mute in this case as his wife's influences surround him. After succeeding to eliminate the King's first wife and true Luna, she assumes as queen and Luna. She sends the heir, Prince Douglas to jail thus completely cutting him off from the throne.
Everyone is at the mercy of this evil queen.
The Moon goddess sees this from above and decides to save her children. She is the only one who can save them.
Her first target is Prince Douglas who is the right heir to the throne. Along the way he falls in love with this gentle but brave young woman who gets him out of prison and back to normal life.
Douglas does not let her go even when she insists she was on a mission and has to go back when the time is up.
Would the moon goddess actually return or let love rule over her mandate?
Alright, this is actually my favorite thing to dig into. Aph Egypt stuff often treats the myths like a big, messy family drama that never got written down. You see a lot of fics where, say, Set isn't just a god of chaos and storms, he's the problematic uncle everyone gossips about at the Nile-side barbecues. The mythology becomes a backdrop for really personal, modern-feeling conflicts. I read one where Anubis was basically running a supernatural therapy session for souls waiting to be judged, dealing with mortal anxiety about the afterlife in a way the original myths never bothered with. It's less about accurate retelling and more about using those ancient archetypes to explore loyalty, power struggles, and identity.
Sometimes it goes super surreal, though. I stumbled across a crossover once that mashed up the Book of the Dead with internet culture; the Weighing of the Heart ceremony became a livestream event with chat comments from other deities. Weird? Absolutely. But it captures something about how myths are living stories, not museum pieces. They're constantly being remixed to reflect what scares or excites us now, which feels very true to how myths probably evolved orally in the first place.
A lot of writers kind of gloss over it and just drop in gods like Isis or Set as background characters for a Cairo date, which honestly feels like a missed opportunity. The ones that do it well, though, dig into concepts like 'ma'at'—that balance of order and chaos. I read a slow-burn where the conflict wasn't a villain with a plan, but the gradual crumbling of ma'at in their world, making the characters question their own roles in it. It's less about quoting myths directly and more about using that cosmic framework to drive the relationship tension, which I find way more interesting than another 'we fought a monster together' plot.
I also see a ton of 'god or goddess reincarnated' AUs, which can be hit or miss. When it's done thoughtfully, it explores the weight of divine legacy on a modern person, the alienation. But sometimes it's just a power fantasy with fancy headdresses.
Moon Knight fanfiction often dives deep into Khonshu's role as both a manipulator and a twisted guardian, reshaping Marc and Jake's dynamic in fascinating ways. Some stories paint Khonshu as a literal puppeteer, forcing Marc and Jake into conflict by whispering doubts or amplifying their worst traits. Others explore the idea of Khonshu as a reluctant father figure, binding the alters together through shared suffering rather than genuine care. The best fics I've read make Khonshu's presence visceral—his voice echoes in their thoughts, his demands warp their trust in each other, and his whims dictate whether they unite or fracture.
One standout trope is Khonshu deliberately isolating Marc from Jake, feeding Marc's guilt while stoking Jake's rage, creating a cycle where they can't rely on each other. It’s brutal but compelling. Other fics flip the script, showing Khonshu as oddly protective of their fragile balance, intervening only when one alter threatens to consume the other. The tension between divine control and human agency is what makes these stories so gripping. Khonshu isn’t just a god; he’s the third wheel in their already messy relationship, and fanfiction loves to exploit that.
