AirPlay has been enabled for Fire Cube. To do this, you can say ‘Alexa, enable AirPlay’ or go to Settings > Display & Sounds > AirPlay & HomeKit and toggle the feature on. Once you have enabled AirPlay for Fire Cube, your device should appear in the list displayed on your phone or Mac when you activate AirPlay. I wrote this up fairly quickly to hopefully be useful to someone looking to get this up and running asap. The first step is to ensure your Fire TV Cube is running the latest software version. Go to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for Updates. Once you’ve confirmed it does natively support AirPlay, navigate to Settings > Display & Sounds > AirPlay & HomeKit and switch AirPlay to On. You can then use the Control Center on your iPhone or the AirPlay icon on Macs to select the Fire TV Cube and enter the 4-digit PIN.
If Fire TV Cube does not support AirPlay natively, you can use the third party app ‘AirScreen’ available in Amazon Appstore. You would need to open app, start service, and then select Fire TV Cube from your device’s Screen Mirroring options. For troubleshooting purposes, make sure both your phone and Fire TV Cube are connected to the same Wi-Fi network on the same band. Try to disable your VPN and then restart your phone and Fire TV Cube. Check your router settings to see if it’s set to Client Isolation mode. I ensure my Fire Cube is up to date and then go into Settings > Display & Sounds > Enable Display Mirroring and turn it on. The Screen Mirroring option in Control Center on my iOS device then lists the Fire Cube – simply select it to connect. This method is ideal for sharing short video clips from within messaging apps that don’t have a TV interface. The method is simple to set up and works in an instant.

However, it would require replacing the Bluetooth module with a more advanced multi-connection module and programming new firmware for the remote control. While possible, such a mod would likely cost more than the alternative remotes, take a lot of time to complete, and risk bricking the remote control. The mod is a hardware change and not something that can be resolved with a software update.
Until someone figures out a work around for this limitation of Fire Sticks, it is just something we live with. The community has largely moved on from hopes that this would be fixed and instead are looking for ways to work around it with their current TVs and other devices.

Here is how I have paired my Fire Stick remote in the past. First, turn on your TV and then your Fire Stick. Next, pick up your remote control and hold down the 'Home' button for approximately 10 seconds. This should bring up a message on your TV asking to pair your remote. If the above does not work then try holding down the 'Back' button and 'Right' button at the same time for 12 seconds. The light on the remote should begin to blink indicating that the remote is in pairing mode. Once it has paired, it should work as normal.
In most cases a reset of the remote control is required. Take out the batteries, wait a minute or so, and then put the batteries back in. After this, it’s business as usual and you’ll need to pair your remote control again. Be aware that sometimes an update for the Fire TV system is required to fix pairing issues with your remote control. To check if an update is available, go to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for Updates. After updating your system, the pairing of your remote control should work as usual.
