Can I Revert Updates For Amazon Fire Stick If I Dislike Them?

Sometimes my Amazon Fire Stick's software updates just make the UI worse or hide my favorite apps. Is rolling back to an older version even possible for users like me, or do we have to live with the changes?

Unfortunately, Amazon devices like the Fire TV Stick cannot be rolled back to a previous system update after the latest update has been installed. What I can suggest is to disable auto updates in settings. And I feel like I have found the perfect new show to binge. It is a completely free online werewolf romance and so far it has a really satisfying storyline. The female lead has been given the chance to start over from a pretty bleak point in her life and is rebuilding her broken pack. All of the chapters have already been uploaded for free online and there are a few websites that are hosting it. So, you don't have to worry about any updates to an app or changes to the interface while you are reading through all of the chapters to the story.

I’ve gotten into several arguments with the forced updates on my Amazon Fire Stick, but the biggest problem is that Amazon does not offer a way to downgrade to a previous version of Fire OS. Once the update downloads and installs, there is no going back. Sideloading an older version of the firmware is possible, but that is an advanced procedure, can be hazardous to your device, and likely will void your warranty.

I have actually managed to find a couple of work-arounds for updates that Amazon have messed up and which I hate. Firstly, you can stop future updates happening by going to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for Updates and toggle off “Automatic Updates” to ensure that Amazon do not update your device any further whilst you are assessing whether the update is okay or not. If you find that the new update is far worse than the one you had previously then you can change your home screen back to how it was previously to try and get used to it more.

There is no way to ‘downgrade’ the Fire Stick’s operating system, should Amazon update it in a manner you dislike. However, users can cease any future updates by changing the Settings to prevent auto-updating. This is done via My Fire TV > About > Check for Updates, switching to ‘Off’ to prevent further updates. While it will not ‘roll back’ previous updates, it will keep the Fire Stick where it is currently at. In the meantime some home screens are easily customizable and users have also created ‘launchers’ that can ‘mask’ many dislike features of new updates, but these require some setup.

As a long-time Fire Stick user, I understand the initial excitement to receive updates for your streaming device, while at other times these changes can actually detract from the overall user experience. I have come to realize that unfortunately Amazon does not support the ability to download previous versions of the Fire Stick’s operating system for users to revert back to should they experience problems with a newer release. To prevent further updates from being automatically downloaded and installed, go to the Settings of your Fire TV > My Fire TV > About > Check for Updates and toggle the option to disable auto-updates for that menu. Note that disabling auto-updates for this menu will not roll back the current update for you; however, it will prevent future updates from automatically downloading and installing on your device.

If you find you don’t like the new Fire TV interface, you might rearrange your apps to place your favorite ones front and center on your home screen. There are third-party launchers for the Fire TV that also can make the updated interface feel more like the older version, although setting up these launchers can require some technical wizardry.

These updates can remove features which you enjoyed using on your Amazon Fire Stick. Unlike regular computer software, Amazon do not allow you to revert back to previous versions of the Fire OS. In order to try and minimize the impact of the update, you could turn off automatic updates. To do this go to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for Updates and unmark the box.

Consider going with an alternative app or Fire TV launcher that offers a close replica of the Fire OS interface as it was. This can provide a degree of relief to users mourning the loss of beloved features, albeit not an absolute fix and fraught with the potential for system instability amongst other pitfalls.

Can I pair amazon fire stick remote with multiple sticks?

9 Answers2025-08-16
For someone with skills, possibly modding the remote control to use instead of buying separate universal remote controls for each HDMI input is a possiblity. However, it would require replacing the Bluetooth module with a more advanced multi-connection module and programming new firmware for the remote control. While possible, such a mod would likely cost more than the alternative remotes, take a lot of time to complete, and risk bricking the remote control. The mod is a hardware change and not something that can be resolved with a software update. Until someone figures out a work around for this limitation of Fire Sticks, it is just something we live with. The community has largely moved on from hopes that this would be fixed and instead are looking for ways to work around it with their current TVs and other devices.

What version of Android does fire tv stick operating system use?

11 Answers2025-08-04
For tech support purposes, the Android version also helps diagnose app crashes as well as sideloading issues. For example, if an app fails to load, I ask the user what Fire Stick they are using and that typically tells me what Android version they have. The 4K Max has far fewer walls in terms of compatibility than the other models.

Can you stream all channels with an Amazon Fire Stick?

Updates can be a good thing or a bad thing. Updates to Fire OS happen frequently. Sometimes the update is so drastic that you’ll find the interface has changed dramatically. Usually an update will include some sort of new integration to Live tab that is great. The worst part is that updates require users to be flexible. The device is a living, breathing platform and can change for better or for worse at any time. Your way of accessing your favorite channels could change at any time without you knowing in advance of the change. Often these updates occur without your request.

How to fix amazon fire stick game controller lag?

5 Answers2025-08-04
Kids complaining about the lag of a controller while playing games is something I’m familiar with. First, close all other applications and services, as they consume system resources. Reducing the video quality in the game’s settings where possible will also help to reduce the processing time of the game data. When using a generic Bluetooth controller, update the firmware of the controller via a computer as sometimes the problem can be resolved by updating to the latest software.

How many fire tv stick generations are currently available?

I keep a tech blog for things like this where I go through and review various devices for the audience. I have a list of published reviews for the different Apple TV models, ranging from the 2014 model to the latest 2021 model. I reviewed the 2014 model, 2016 model, 2018 4K model, 2020 Lite model and the latest 2021 4K Max model. The 2020 4K model was largely a refresh of the 2018 4K model, and therefore, didn’t warrant a full new review. However, the last three generations are really where it’s at for new Apple TV buyers. The first two are no longer worth the money unless you can get them for free.

How do I enable airplay amazon fire stick on Fire Cube?

7 Answers2025-08-26
Enabling display mirroring on the Fire Cube is a matter of going to Settings > Display & Sounds and toggling the associated option to the On position. Then, on your Apple device, you can use Screen Mirroring from the Control Center to select the Fire Cube from a list of availablegetDisplayMirroring-enabled devices. Video clips from apps like Facebook can then be cast to your TV where they can be viewed by everyone. Sound is even sent to the TV speakers, a much better location than in your phone's tiny speaker(s). In short, it's a really cool way to share photos – passing around a physical album of them just isn't this cool.

How to pair amazon fire stick remote with a new device?

3 Answers2025-08-16
Here is how I have paired my Fire Stick remote in the past. First, turn on your TV and then your Fire Stick. Next, pick up your remote control and hold down the 'Home' button for approximately 10 seconds. This should bring up a message on your TV asking to pair your remote. If the above does not work then try holding down the 'Back' button and 'Right' button at the same time for 12 seconds. The light on the remote should begin to blink indicating that the remote is in pairing mode. Once it has paired, it should work as normal. In most cases a reset of the remote control is required. Take out the batteries, wait a minute or so, and then put the batteries back in. After this, it’s business as usual and you’ll need to pair your remote control again. Be aware that sometimes an update for the Fire TV system is required to fix pairing issues with your remote control. To check if an update is available, go to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for Updates. After updating your system, the pairing of your remote control should work as usual.

Can you install a different OS on amazon kindle fire?

7 Answers2025-07-29
Yeah, I can read through those tutorials, etc. But really this is a $50-$150 media player, and lots of work to get it to do what you want. The Amazon way of making money on the device is to sell books, Video, etc. And ads on the lockscreen. As it is the Fire is a great read Kindle books and watch some Netflix for cheap. I would not go through all of this to get a “clean” Android experience on a device this cheap. Get a cheaper Android tablet. I might go through all of this with an old device that I am not using and want to use as a dedicated smart home interface or something, where Fire OS would be a major hindrance. But otherwise, no thanks.

Which web browser works best with fire tv stick?

7 Answers2025-08-12
When you use a browser like Silk or Puffin to browse the web, your web traffic will go through their servers to do the work of accelerating your browsing or doing the work of rendering web pages in the cloud. Therefore, they can see your web traffic. For casual browsing of sites such as news, playing games, etc., this may be OK. But for sites where you log in to do things such as bank or email, this may not be OK. Browsers like Firefox or TVBro render the web pages on your device so there is no intermediary seeing your web traffic. A trade-off between more performance and more security for your private data – what you need it for, you decide.

Does amazon fire tv stick deal include free shipping?

5 Answers2025-08-08
Free shipping on Fire TV Stick deals is often offered by Amazon. Deals for Fire TV Stick usually include free shipping for Prime members. For non-members, however, you may need to spend a minimum amount. Seasonal sales like Prime Day and Cyber Monday often include free shipping too. Just check the deal details to confirm. It’s also worth waiting for a sale to be shipped instead of paying for the shipping fee yourself.
