It's not a complicated lineage. VIZ published three volumes of 'School Briefs' between 2018 and 2019. Then, after a multi-year hiatus, they published the 'Vigilantes' novel in 2022. The following year, 2023, they published the 'Team-Up Missions' novel. So the list is chronological by release year: 2018, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023. Five books total. I imagine if more spin-off novels get popular in Japan, we might see a similar delay before they're translated and published over here.

For a visual learner, think of it as two blocks. Block A: School Briefs Vol. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Block B: UA Heroes, then UA Heroes 2. There's no crossover between the blocks, so just finish Block A before moving to B if you want to experience the releases as fans did over the years.

For a complete timeline nerd, you could try to slot each novel's events into the manga chapters. But for mere reading pleasure, the published order is perfectly fine. It's how most fans experienced them, and there's no downside to following that path.

I see a lot of conflicting info, but the VIZ website is the source of truth. According to their catalog, the English novel releases are: 1. My Hero Academia: School Briefs, Vol. 1 (2018), 2. My Hero Academia: School Briefs, Vol. 2 (2018), 3. My Hero Academia: School Briefs, Vol. 3 (2019), 4. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes (2022), 5. My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions (2023). No other titles exist in this specific format. Don't be fooled by the manga or the 'Smash!!' comedy series.

Sometimes I buy media tie-in novels just for the cover art and never read them. The MHA novels have great art. The order on my shelf is purely aesthetic—by color and size. Don't @ me.

What is the correct order of the My Hero Academia light novels?

10 คำตอบ2026-08-04 07:52:12
They're quick reads. You could probably finish one in a couple of hours. Because of that, it's not a huge commitment to just start at Volume 1 and breeze through them. There's no reason to jump around.

What is the reading order for the My Hero Academia light novels?

12 คำตอบ2026-08-04 19:05:56
The order matters less than the mindset. Go in expecting cozy, low-stakes stories. If you expect plot progression or power-ups, you'll be disappointed. It's about the characters hanging out. Once you accept that, you can open any volume.

What is the correct reading order for the My Hero Academia book series?

13 คำตอบ2026-08-04 17:18:52
Here's a hot take: you can skip the light novels and 'Team-Up Missions' entirely and miss nothing crucial to the main plot. They're for superfans who want extra moments. 'Vigilantes', however, is genuinely excellent and adds meaningful context to the main world, especially regarding quirks, hero society's underbelly, and Eraser Head's past. So my minimalist order: Read the 'My Hero Academia' manga until you at least finish the Pro Hero arc (around volume 20-ish). Then, take a break and read all of 'Vigilantes'. Then return to the main manga. The contrast in scale makes you appreciate both stories more.

Are there novels in english that expand the My Hero Academia universe?

4 คำตอบ2025-05-02 01:28:10
Absolutely! The 'My Hero Academia' universe has expanded into several English novels that dive deeper into the lives of our favorite heroes and students. 'My Hero Academia: School Briefs' is a series of light novels that explore the daily lives of Class 1-A outside of their intense hero training. These stories give us a glimpse into their friendships, rivalries, and personal struggles, making the characters feel even more relatable. Another gem is 'My Hero Academia: Vigilantes', a spin-off manga that has been adapted into novels. It focuses on a group of underground heroes who operate outside the law, offering a grittier perspective on the hero society. The novels delve into their backstories and the moral dilemmas they face, adding layers to the already rich 'My Hero Academia' world. For fans who crave more action and drama, 'My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions' is a must-read. These novels follow Deku and his classmates as they team up with pro heroes on various missions, showcasing their growth and teamwork. The novels are packed with intense battles, emotional moments, and plenty of fan service, making them a perfect addition to the 'My Hero Academia' universe.

Where can I buy My Hero Academia graphic novels in English print and digital?

11 คำตอบ2026-08-04 12:44:09
Airport bookstores. Seriously. They almost always have volume 1 of mega-popular series like this. It’s saved me on long layovers. For planned purchases, I set up price trackers on CamelCamelCamel for Amazon print prices. Digital prices fluctuate less, but you can use a site like eReaderIQ to track Kindle price drops for specific volumes.

How does the My Hero Academia manga order differ from the novels?

14 คำตอบ2026-08-04 02:47:29
The best analogy I've heard is that the manga is the superhero movie, and the novels are the TV show set in the same universe that runs between the film releases. The TV show doesn't change the movie's plot, but it develops the supporting cast and shows daily life. You can watch the movies without the show, but the show adds depth. Similarly, you can read the manga without the novels. But if you watch the 'movies' (read the manga) and then go back to the 'TV show' (novels), you'll appreciate the quieter moments more because you know the characters' fates. The order is the same timeline, just different narrative density.

In what order should I read all My Hero Academia light novels?

12 คำตอบ2026-08-04 09:58:20
Publication order is the safest bet for the 'School Briefs' novels, but really, they're so episodic it hardly matters. I accidentally read Volume 3 before 2 and didn't feel lost. The 'Illegals' series is a separate manga, not a novel, but if you want to include it, read that anytime after you're familiar with the main world—it enriches the setting. The novels are for when you just want more time with Class 1-A between big fights.

How do I read the My Hero Academia books in order?

10 คำตอบ2026-08-04 00:22:33
The data books, like 'Ultra Archive' and 'Databook: Characters,' are not narrative. They're like bonus DVD extras in book form—interviews, concept art, power level stats, and trivia. You read them after you're familiar with the characters, not as part of a narrative sequence. They're great for settling fan debates or getting insight into Horikoshi's design process. I love flipping through them, but they won't tell you the story of Deku becoming the greatest hero. So, for a story-only order, your list is: 1) Main manga volumes 1-??, 2) 'Vigilantes' spin-off (anytime after you know the main pro heroes), 3) 'School Briefs' light novels (as a relaxed break between intense arcs). That's it. Everything else is reference material.

What is the correct reading order for My Hero Academia graphic novels?

11 คำตอบ2026-08-04 01:15:28
It's a serialized manga, not the 'Chrono Trigger' timeline. Read Volume 1, then 2, then 3. The plot is continuous. You'll miss crucial character development if you skip around. The volume covers even tell a sequential visual story.
