Plot

The novel starts with Thora receiving an extremely harsh punishment from Landon because she refused to sleep with him. The torture was so severe that she lost consciousness. Landon then summoned the pack's doctor to check on her while preparing for the Alpha King's visit, in which the Alpha King was supposed to review the Redmoon Pack's latest acquisition, one that would presumably place them at the apex of the Werewolf realm.

However, as distraught as Thora was in her current predicament, nothing could prepare her for her latest realization: Being the Alpha King's fated mate! Furthermore, the first impression Volkan had of her couldn't have been worse. When he first laid eyes on Thora, she was wearing very scarce clothing and getting kissed by Landon while sitting on his lap, a sight that enraged him significantly.

Volkan's reaction was somewhat justified. Contrary to his Werewolf nature (especially being an Alpha), he didn't engage in any type of sexual relations in the hopes of finding his true mate. That said, Thora herself wasn't pleased with Landon, a fact Volkan was not willing to understand prima facie.

Volkan's and Thora's relationship would be fraught with obstacles and difficulties, including life-threatening situations and, of course, enemies. However, these setbacks would strengthen their bond rather than destroy it.

Characters

Thora Valentine

Thora appears as a weakling but her will to survive makes her stronger than ever. In the eyes of her detractors, she's a nobody and one of the most pathetic members of her pack, which may be the reason why she oftentimes behaves cynically and, at other times, extremely subservient (there's no in-between).

Alpha King Volkan

Volkan is the feared Alpha King, the most powerful being in the Werewolf world (and quite handsome in his own right). From the perspective of the rest of the world, he's an iron-clad ruler unable to show any semblance of care or charity. In fact, he's wont to be quite merciless. Nonetheless, behind his rough attitude and appearance, there's a tender heart.

Alpha Landon

Alpha Landon is arguably one of the most renowned Alphas, heading one of the biggest and most relevant packs in the entire Kingdom. His strategic importance is only matched by his wickedness. From the onset, readers can already tell he's a selfish prick bent on destroying even the people he pretends to love for his own gains.

Hot Chapters

Chapter 8

Thora's suicide attempt ends in failure as she realizes death is not as easy as it seems. However, she has to contend with some rogues ready to tear her flesh apart, and, for a moment, envisions a painful death ahead. Luckily, Volkan comes to her rescue and rips those rogues to pieces, bringing a deeply wounded Thora back to safety. As she lies in bed, wounded, Volkan tries to figure her out. Even though he still sees her as a nuisance, he's annoyed by the fact he's still attracted to her.

After she regains consciousness, he commands her to get up. She does so hesitantly, thinking he might hurt her as punishment for her suicide attempt. To her surprise, all he does is apply an antiseptic to her skin. Even though his demeanor is still sharply poignant, Thora can discern a caring side in Volkan she never knew existed.

Chapter 11

Thora returns to the maid's quarters after sleeping in Volkan's bedroom. Next, her boss and co-workers, in a fit of jealousy, attempt to humiliate her, but she refuses to stand silent, so they begin chasing her and, in the process, her wounds open up again, with blood gushing profusely and running down her legs.

Thankfully, she stumbles upon the handsome Beta Jason, who demands an explanation from the women pursuing Thora. They lie by claiming she is not following orders, and Beta Jason dismisses them soon after. Jason feels sorry for her after seeing the blood trail she left behind and escorts her towards the doctor's office.

Eventually, Volkan enters the doctor's office and surprises both Beta Jason and Thora as they share some intense gazes.

Chapter 17

Thora wakes up in the guest room. Still weakened, she rushes towards the hall where the mating ceremony is being held, thinking she may have missed the entire thing. To her relief, King Volkan has not yet entered the stage, but she would soon regret witnessing the event.

In a strange turn, King Volkan elects Princess Charlotte, causing Thora an unbearable heartache. It is at that moment she realizes she never meant anything to him, though he keeps staring at her during the entire process.

As she walks away in shame, she encounters Beta Jason, who's bringing her some medicines at the behest of Volkan. She quickly tosses away the medicine in frustration and locks herself in, fills a bucket with ice water, and dips her head in it to numb her pain.

Theme

"Death Wolf Saga" pivots on various sensitive issues, including (but not limited to) the patriarchy and the status of women in male-dominated societies. In the Werewolf societal structure, females are often shoved aside and used as mere reproductive tools that can be traded as interchangeable widgets for other benefits.

Thora, our female lead, has to traverse through various uncomfortable - and downright painful - situations on account of being a female Omega, including getting tortured and even sold. It's just one of the many examples that can be brought up to certify that females (moreso those of lower social strata) are deemed inferior in the majority of packs in Werewolf literature.

Other subjects concern the meaning of suffering and life itself, as well as the vicissitudes of love amidst seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

Author Introduction & Writing Style & Point of View

Susangill98 describes herself as a "Cancerian" and an introvert who spends her free time designing compelling stories in her head. Judging by her bibliography, her specialty is Werewolf stories, and she has written three Werewolf novels so far: "Death Wolf Saga" (the novel under review), "The Rebel," and "The Mate She Rejected."

The writing style in "Death Wolf Saga" is somewhat easy to digest in the sense that it doesn't give readers long text walls full of empty descriptors. Nevertheless, it also relies a lot on metaphors and poetic language, enriching thus the reading experience.

The point of view in "Death Wolf Saga" shifts quite often, even within the same chapter. The bulk of the story is narrated from the main characters' perspectives (Thora, Landon, and Volkan), though other important characters - such as Daniel - give their say occasionally.

Conclusion

"Death Wolf Saga" offers a fulfilling story packed with thrilling twists and turns and one that excels in both character and plot design. There is not one dull moment to be found in the entire narrative and, what's more, the novel doesn't overstay its welcome, being only 92 chapters long. Lastly, apart from some small glitches, the editing job is superb, not breaking the reader's immersion at any point.
