CHAPTER 145 "Do you guys think there are people living around?" Brenda asked after she lowered her binoculars. Her brows pulled together as she squinted to see through the thick branches of the trees. "It's very unlikely. What did you see?" Dave, her boyfriend asked and moved closer to her to look out the window as well. The treehouse they were in had been built years ago by the grandparents of her best friend, Allison. The girls had then arranged to spend three weeks of their summer holiday in the treehouse with their boyfriends before they all went off to college.

“That’s it! I quit. I suck.” I turned to look at what she was making. She had gotten 20% of the starting drawing right, but in time lost touch of everything. I laughed lightly and took the book for inspection. The pages fluttered, and behind the unfinished busy subway, I saw a few more colourful drawings and sketches. I turned the page, and was greeted by the sight of a huge green tree. At first glance it looked really majestic. Because all you will notice at first are the thick heavy branches. But in time, when you keep looking, you will see the differences.

I smiled as I listened to my boys making plans for spending the night in their treehouse. Kade and Apollo designed it to be the boys’ paradise in the treetops. I had never seen those two, meaning the adults, as giddy as they were when they created their masterpiece. It was a two-story treehouse that had a loft, lounge area, and another area considered to be a man-cave. Then Dante and Chris had to outdo my mate and his Beta. Dante was a genius when it came to architecture, so he designed a lodge that had six different rooms. One such room was a game room. Then there was an obstacle course underneath it all.

He asked her, as if she had hit an iron pole, and not a human being. She chuckled softly at his tender care. “Yeah, I’m fine. It's only your back, not a metal wall, Kaden.” Kaden shrugged his shoulders, before returning to the tree. It was then that Storm saw it. It was then that she saw the holes created in the large tree for climbing. It was then that she saw the huge cabin standing on one of the branches of the large tree. A tree house! She had never seen one as large as this. She took in the sheer size of the tree, and shook her head. This was really huge. “I didn’t see this when we were mounting the safeguards, was it casted here?”

“Hey. Just checking in, how’s housing coming along?” Her smile was tired but warm. “Wonderfully. Every wolf that wanted shelter has it. We built a small forest village inside the tree line for those who want a little more privacy. There’s a carved path leading into town, lit with soft magic. And,” she added with a twinkle, “we’ve started constructing treehouses. Easy to enchant, and the soldiers and feral types love them.” I gasped. “Treehouses?! Like… for grown ups?” “Big enough for families. Enchanted walkways. Rope lifts. Total fantasy aesthetic.”

He climbed up the ladder and entered through a trap door. The treehouse smelt like autumn. It had been built by Josh and his dad three years ago. Back when he still cared. Josh shook all thoughts of his dad out if his mind. He didn't care anymore. There was no reason to mule over something you can't have. Hunter and Zoey were propped ontop two swivel chairs. Waiting. "Don't worry, I've ensured this treehouse will stand strong for at least the next twenty years," he reassured me, and I smiled back. Slowly, I began ascending the wooden steps while Gray monitored my progress from below. I wasn't sure how many people it took to build this treehouse, but it was indeed perched atop a single, tall tree. Maybe Gray had intentionally built it this high to deter wild animals, I thought, finally reaching the treehouse.
