Chapter 51: The Sovereign Horizon The morning sun came up over the East River. Filled the Brooklyn studio with a nice bright light. This light made the room feel fresh and new. Elena stood by an old oak table. Her hands were flat on the table. In front of her were the real books of the Nora Vale Imprint series. The Nora Vale Imprint series was finally done. The covers of the books were simple and nice to touch. They did not have the pictures that people usually see on digital books.

“Miss Griffin, that’s a lot of calls. Do you want me to wait while you reply to them?” “No need. They’re nothing important,” I replied casually, my tone indifferent. Once we were on the road, he asked, “Miss Griffin, is this your first time here? Do you want to go anywhere before work starts? You don’t officially begin until the day after tomorrow. I can show you around.” “Yes, this is my first time here,” I said as I gazed out the window at the passing scenery. Suddenly, my phone rang again, the sharp sound filling the quiet car.

MECHANIC BOSS(MM) CHAPTER ONE NOAH “You Noah?” That’s the first thing I hear when I step into the garage. I turn fast and see him. He’s tall. Built like he could lift a car with one hand. Grease on his forearms, black shirt tight across his chest. I nod. “Yeah. Um… I’m here for the job?” “You’re late.” “I—yeah. The bus—” “Don’t care.” He turns around without another word and disappears behind a lifted truck. I’m left standing there like a damn idiot with my bag still on my shoulder.

’ He released my hands and reached up to grab the book, removing the protective sleeve he had covering it and placing it gently in my hands. My eyes rounded, and my head darted up to meet Everett’s eyes, ‘Please tell me this isn’t a joke.’ Shaking his head, still grinning from ear to ear, ‘It’s not.’ ‘I thought you didn’t have a first edition of it?’ A soft smirk grew from the corner of his mouth, ‘I never said that. I just hoped that I could get another one, just in case this one fell apart.’ I scoffed, ‘Ev, this one looks near perfect! There’s just a little fraying here and there, but it’s a small hardback book,’ turning it over slowly, I continued examining it, ‘It looks well made, and yo

I will gladly appreciate it so I will know which of my book is best for the Goodnovel's 2020 contest. Thank you for reading the first chapter of Please be mine.

“What colour do you want to start with?” “At least let me get dressed for this.” Seeing he’s pretending to not hear a word I say, I sigh. “White.” He hands me the white bag. It’s heavier than expected. When I peek inside, something catches in my throat. No way. I reach in and slowly pull out a hardcover novel — the limited edition. Bonus chapters. Character art. Gilded edges. The kind of cover you touch like it’s holy. It only released last month and costs more than my dignity. I’ve had it bookmarked in every browser tab like a prayer.

I insisted . She sighed "you won't give up will you." "I definitely won't so ...go please." She smiled at me as she left and I stayed behind. I began preparing breakfast as the birds began chirping . My hands already felt sore but I had to get it done for Madam Anna . I felt like she really worked so hard she barely had time to look after herself and the humans here seemed to only care about themselves and not each other. They had probably been here for so long they had forgotten how to be united ,how to fight ,they had given up all hope I could see it in their eyes.

I whisper. "Of course not. I have so much time on my hand that I had a fake first edition manufactured and smuggled in here." A teary laugh escapes me. "I don't know. That seems like something you would do just to fuck with me." Adrenaline pumps through my vein like nicotine, racing my heartbeat. The book seems real enough. Hardcover. Gilt page fore-edges. The pages are clean and bright, at least from what I can see. This book, if real, is worth more than a hundred thousand dollars.

The leather binding has fancy marks in it and has title imprinted on the front. "That first kiss." Ugh, from just the title you could tell that a teenage girl at the start of her puberty wrote it. I couldn't really tell if Nova's a girl or a boy, he wants to be called a "he" but then writes a full novel about a CEO obsessing over a girl. I don't know why Nova doesn't want to call it a book when it obviously was. Don't let the title fool you, the story slowly turns dark and twisted.
