Her hands still shook the entire time, and she watched the spot, almost expecting the boy to move the floorboard and climb out. This was worse than expecting a ghost to be behind her, ready to eat her. Had she seen what she thought she saw? Was that real? Who sleeps with a wild bear cub? Where were they? She didn’t know what to do. Should she tell someone? Or would that get her in more trouble with Aunt Esme and her parents?

Wasn’t that illegal? “Billie was really good at luring those baby bears,” he said while smiling at the memory. “sometime last year, she caught one. The little fool was won over by a few bars of chocolate.” The memory seemed to amuse him and he laughed heartily before he continued his tale. “She whacked it real good and sliced it up like I taught her to. But she wasn’t careful enough. The mama bear crept up on her and mauled her to death. I showed up too late.”

Gingerlocks and Her Three Bears It was supposed to be one day; a one-time thing but- I no longer know what am doing anymore. I was just going to shoot some content with my friends, then go about my day, I swear! That was the original plan. But then, shit happened. The rain, the wolves, losing my friends... and now, I’m surrounded by three hulky men, who are all hot and primal and determined to never let me go. I call them bears because they are humongous! I mean, just look at them. I am nervous, I don’t think that all three of them can fit yet, my heart flutters like a caged bird, so fast and rhythmically to the beats of anticipation and excitement. I am thrilled... and am so going to get ri

It made the King look weak for producing such a disappointment, thus meaning Leopold was ashamed of me. He never mistreated me, though he made sure to let me know how ashamed he was. I was the cause of the whispers from Kulumi’s people. I was the girl without a bear, and I was nothing like them. The council called a meeting where Elder Jones pointed out that grief can cause the bear to shrink away for some time. I had lost my mother, our Queen, and it had affected me deeply. If the bear had gone into hibernation, it could take years for her to awaken. He also said that forcing the bear out would never work; she can only arise when she is ready.

My food was gone within the first few minutes, so I was able to extend an invitation to any werebears we ran into on the way to join us for training, but I wasn’t expecting many of them to venture far from their residences today. I’d already had an emotionally taxing day, but I charged forward anyway once Rowan and I reached a more secluded part of the path, saying, “I spoke with my father already, but I want to hear your side of the story. What the hell happened with the bears? I swear everything fell apart when I left.”

The spirit beast ran to the border before stopping, but all we could see were the three beastmen. "You vile beasts, where have you taken Vee?" Mother angrily scolded them, forgetting that she was merely the ruler of a small kingdom. Sure enough, the three beastmen burst into laughter upon hearing that. Felix casually tugged on a rope beside him. "Ha! Like mother, like daughter—so defiant." Sharp wails came from the cliff's edge. "Mother, no! Don't anger them or I'll die! They're all insane!" Mother was gripping my hand tightly, and when she discovered Victoria hanging from the cliff wall by a thin rope, her nails dug into my flesh.

“When I engage it, you run. Don’t look back.” “No,” I whispered, horror-stricken. Not him too. I couldn’t lose him too. “It’s the only way,” he said, his eyes never leaving the bear. “It’s my duty.” The bear lowered its head, its muscles coiling like springs. It was going to charge. In that split second, a memory surfaced. A story Kairi had told Elisse just a few nights ago, by a fire that felt a lifetime away. A story about the old magic of the mountains, and the creatures that served it.

Jameson spoke then, the only one of the bears who had been quiet the entire time. “We will not allow it. Bears do not mate or resonate with humans. It is impossible and unnatural. And any bear who ventures to do so will be kicked out of the council.” “Yes,” Elias continued. “Any bear who does such a thing will be cut off from the resources we provide.
