He released her and walked away, his laughter a dark, low sound that echoed in the glass room. Valentina watched him go, her hand trembling as she touched her stomach. "364 days left," she whispered to the empty room. "364 days to burn it all down.”

One finger taps his wrist, a silent countdown. Twelve days are over.

Lay in bed staring at the ceiling. One day down. 326 to go.

Because Ethan wasn't afraid of him. Not at all. Then Ethan took a step forward. Lily staying safely behind him. "Do you know," Ethan said quietly, "how many times I imagined this moment?" Silence. Dr. Laurent said nothing. Probably the smartest thing he could do. Then Ethan laughed. Not happily. Not kindly. A broken laugh. "Five thousand four hundred and seventy-six days." Nobody moved. Nobody breathed. Because Ethan had counted. Every day. Every single day. Then he looked at Amara.

She added and he creased her hands with his thumb. “You have like forty-seven days left right?” He asked and she nodded in response. He took in a deep breath and stared into her eyes, he can just easily order her to do it, he really doesn't know why he feels like her opinion is needed. “Let's make it three hundred and sixty-five days.”

350 days left. No contract. No rules. Just him. Just me. Just war.

Not 177 days. 24 hours until two hundred enhanced children were activated simultaneously. 24 hours until the world changed forever. 24 hours to save them all. Or lose everything.

“You need time. Let your body recover.” “No, you don’t understand. I don’t have time,” she rushed, her voice trembling as she blinked rapidly, eyes fixed on Nathan in desperation. “I can’t let my brothers win. They will ruin my father’s legacy. You have to tell him to find a way for me to walk.” Nathan gave a short nod and turned to the doctor. “What can you do?” “If she still had her wolf, she would already be on her feet,” the doctor replied calmly. “But even a miracle worker can’t heal legs in seconds. The fastest I can manage… is two days.”
