Melanin Diaries: Perfectly Imperfect

Melanin Diaries: Perfectly Imperfect

The poem went this way, Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there; I did not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sun on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uprising rush Oh quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die.

The Lost Demoness: Her Silvery Red Eyes Opens

The Lost Demoness: Her Silvery Red Eyes Opens

The wind poem she came up with was written as such: Whispers Soft voices the wind carries How far will they go? Those words ever be heard Caresses the trees’ leaves, its skin the green grass What does it say? No one knows Can you hear it? Who will hear it? The words so soft It rustles the dirt passing by creatures above and below flowing through the air Where will it go? Does no one hear it? Those forgotten whispers Whose are they?

Melting the bad boy's heart

Melting the bad boy's heart

he says. "Magical words? Love, heal and grow, are they?" I ask. He laughs. "Surely not! Something like. I cannot stay without you. I don't hate you or I cannot live without you. Something like this," he says. "But they are four words," I say counting the words of each sentence. They sure are four words. " Yes they are. I want the similar words to them," he says. Similar words? Is he playing word puzzle with me early morning?

The Beta's Daughter

The Beta's Daughter

“Let’s see it.” I turned the paper over, and revealed the poem scrawled in pencil on the back. Down the streets of woodland black I wander, earth to hearse In every tree I see a wave A looming tidal curse On the cusp of something greater Stood ankle-deep in floodwater Stagnant pools of brown and red The onslaught is coming; I dread For each dark night and each pearl day The mist does clear too soon The floodplain is drown’d again The water, torn from its ocean womb

@Joyce Smith - Hi, I've been replying to your reviews but I'm not sure if you've read any of my responses? I'm afraid the book is ongoing as I write, edit, and proofread one-two chapters per day. It is currently unfinished, otherwise I would of course upload it all. Thanks for supporting my work.

Great storyline! Love the characters... Laughed, cried, got angry... some parts were too drawn out others too short. A few grammatical errors, but overall a truly great read!!! Definitely would recommend it to others!

I really love this book. Huge character maturity over time. Unique story for this platform. You will fall in love with the characters and may even gain a new "book boyfriend" out of the read. The book is not short, but that makes it better to follow the roller-coaster love story. Great job, author!

asked harriet “ if we knew we wouldn’t be here” “ Be grateful what you have for Be careful what you wish for One wrong wish and fate could change The game of fate is not famous in good way Once it change get yourself use to it Don’t wish more or things would get messed up once again” “ woah…… I really wonder who is the poet? I really wanna know how can he write a poem this bad”

Fake it with me

Fake it with me

Six words. And the six words were not warm and were not an olive branch and were not any of the things that would have made them easier to receive, they were simply true, stated flatly, without decoration, and they landed in the middle of the car park with the specific, clarifying weight of something that had been true for a while and was only now being said out loud. She read them again. She did not respond.

Chasing Tara

Chasing Tara

I yelled into the phone. "Look out the window." He commanded. I got up and slowly looked out. There was Jeremy standing on the grass and playing with the puppy. Behind him stood a man. He had a stake but Jeremy couldn't see him. He was hidden in the trees. "Now if you don't do it, he'll die and his blood will be on your hands. Listen carefully. This is your first so I'll go easy on you. I am a word. I exist everywhere for all know me. I am a barrier between two worlds. I visit every home and bring either pain or joy. What word am I?

Exploring the beauty of short poems is like discovering tiny treasures in a vast ocean of literature. A classic example that instantly comes to mind is 'In Just' by E.E. Cummings, which captures the essence of spring in just a few lines. Cummings' unique style, with phrases like 'the little lame balloonman' conjures vivid imagery and evokes emotions that linger long after reading. It amazes me how just a handful of words can create such a powerful vision!

Then there’s William Carlos Williams’ 'The Red Wheelbarrow,' which is incredibly simple yet profoundly contemplative, emphasizing the beauty of everyday life. The imagery of the wheelbarrow and the rain highlights the intersection of the mundane and the extraordinary in just eight lines. Those moments of clarity in poetry can speak volumes about our experiences and the world around us.

Moreover, the haiku, a form originating from Japan, has gained immense popularity in English for its brevity and depth. A perfect example is Matsuo Basho’s 'An old silent pond...' The minimalist structure invites reflection and allows nature to paint its picture in our minds. Every word matters in these succinct pieces, showcasing how poetry can be both accessible and profound.
