Day 28 Military Base 6:00 AM Agent Collins didn’t knock. She opened the door. With a calendar. A big one. Red X through 28 days. 20 she said. 20 days until November 3rd. 20 days until you walk into that courtroom and the world watches. Nico and I sat up. Instantly awake. From today, she said. SERA “Monday.” Kofi said it at nine on a Friday morning, looking up from his screen with the specific attention of someone confirming something rather than discovering it. “Justice Okafor’s clerk confirmed the timeline. Twenty-one days from the hearing. The ruling comes Monday.” Three days.

She chuckled before we disentangled. I stared at the calendar but was confused when I realized the date was 18th December 2022. No wait, that's not right. We're supposed to be in 2024! “Aunt, what's today's date? What year are we in?” I rasped out and she stared at me suspiciously like I was acting like someone loosing her mind. “Oh don't tell me you forgot, Ollie is going to be so mad. It's 18th December, 2022 and you're supposed to go hunting with her today.” She answered slowly and I frowned.

Eighteen hours. The compound was ready. I was going to make sure it stayed that way.

Eighty-four. Eighty-four days until the accord ended. Eighty-four days to decide if it continued. Keth found her there an hour later. “You look like you’re doing math,” Keth said. Luna nodded. “Eighty-four days.” Keth followed her gaze to the camp. “Feels longer.” Luna nodded again. “It is.” They stood in silence for a while. Then Keth said, “Council sent the extension proposal this morning.” Luna looked at him. “Terms?”

Four days passed rapidly. Before long, the clock hit 12 AM. Another day showed up. It was April 21, 2021.
