he adds. "H-how long can he last?" She asked in a cracked voice. "Fourteen days," he explains. "If I am unable to do it before the 14th day? " She asked even though, deep down, she knows the answer. "Then he dies," he said without batting an eye.

She grabs it from him. “Good morning, baby,” Zane’s gruff tone comes from the phone, causing her belly to flutter. “Good morning,” she says. “So, did you sleep well?” he asks, and she lets out a chuckle. “Like a baby.” “Like my baby,” he adds, causing her to grin widely. “It’s day four already, and we only have ten days until we’re together. I can’t wait,” he says, and she goes silent for a moment.

"Rosalia, I was wrong… Please come back." Just then, a wave carried a drifting bottle onto the beach. Inside was a yellowed piece of paper containing my neat handwriting. "Jared, by the time you read this, I will be gone for good. Not just gone, but never existed at all. The system gave me seven days. I could have fixed everything, but what you did was enough to make me give up. Farewell. I hope you and Melody find happiness."

Nathaniel noticed immediately. “I’m sorry,” he said quickly. “I shouldn’t have brought them up.” But it was too late. “I know you’re still not over what happened four years ago.” I forced a faint smile, because he was right. Four years had passed, yet the memory still felt as fresh as if it had happened yesterday. The pain never truly disappeared. It only hid in quiet corners of my heart, waiting for moments like this to resurface. The worst part? They died on my fourteenth birthday.

This was just the first day out of fourteen. And so the countdown begins…

“I’m gonna be a dad. You’re gonna be a mom. We’re doing this.” She pulls me back up and kisses me fiercely. “We’re doing this.” I settle beside her again, pull her close, and spread my hand protectively over her belly. My thumb strokes slow circles. “Four days,” I say quietly. “We were supposed to fuck like animals for four days.” She snorts. “We still can. Just… maybe a little gentler sometimes.”

Damn me! I could really die of boredom at the moment. The house was getting boring as each day went by. Not being able to talk to someone face to face was getting hard. I couldn’t possibly talk to Luciana. Hell, I didn't understand most words she says. I was counting down the minutes until Kat came back from her trip. It has been four days since she left. Two hundred and sixty four hours since I last saw him. Physically, because there's always something about him on the news.

The only words that rang in my head were the four months left before Carla turned twenty. Taking my phone off the nightstand, I checked the calendar. For the exact time left for me. Four months was just my wild guess. Seconds of scrolling through the calendar gave me what I was searching for. The exact time left. Three months and a few weeks. 118 days left. If I was being precise. Returning my phone to the nightstand, I shut my eyes for a little sleep. But the time left rang in my ears. 118 days. I had just 118 days to win my mate.
