That novel was attracting his attention again and again. Due to which he could not resist and he went and bought that novel. Never before had he been interested in a novel. But that novel was attracting his attention again and again. But as soon as he saw the cover page of that novel, he was surprised. This was the same novel about which Tanya had told him.

He rented a car and drove to the small town. The town was even more beautiful than he had seen in photos. White houses cascaded down the hillside in layers, and the stone streets were polished smooth and shiny with age. Every windowsill had bright flowers blooming on it. Lorenzo walked through the streets, watching the people coming and going. A strange feeling welled up in his heart. It was too quiet and too beautiful here, completely unlike the world full of violence and scheming he had lived in. He suddenly felt that Elena truly belonged here, in a beautiful place like this, living a life of such peace.

Wiping his hands on his pants, he tried again and was able to dial 911. As he waited for the call to connect, his eyes roamed the library, darting here and there, anywhere but at Harold. He noticed some books had been knocked off a nearby bookcase, a scattering of anthologies. Yet among them, he spotted his own name. A copy of his novel Dead Don’t Dance. It shouldn’t be here, he kept all his author copies in his office out in the carriage house. “This is 911. What is the nature of your emergency?”

Linda, sitting beside me, muttered under her breath, “Slutty bitch.” That jogged my memory. There was a drugging subplot around this part of the story. If I remembered correctly, Linda was the culprit. She had been secretly in love with Calvin for years, but Calvin only had eyes for Nancy. In the original novel, she managed to drug him, but afterward he turned the tables and dosed her ten times worse, leaving her stranded with no help. She ended up with a terrible fate.
