He hung up before the partner could respond. The hum of the old TV filled the space as the news clip looped again—Hayden Oakley smiling confidently as he walked into his building like nothing had ever happened. Eddie’s chest heaved, his breath raspy as his eyes burned with unfiltered hatred. He stepped closer to the screen, watching Hayden’s smirk freeze on the replay. “You think you won?” Eddie whispered, his voice sounding almost deranged. “You think walking makes you safe?
