Amara shrugged lightly. “Not control,” she replied. “Balance.” Christiana let out a quiet, disbelieving laugh. “You call this balance?” she asked. Amara stepped closer. “I call it leverage,” she said softly. The word echoed. Heavy. Clear. Christiana’s chest rose slowly.

Every effort slipped away, leaving only the gnawing certainty of my failures. And then, amidst the chaos, a thought pierced through the darkness. Afnan’s words.
